Introduction Welcome to the PrimeCharts Installation Guide. Thank you for choosing the stock market software solution. This guide will cover the how-to of: Installing the software on your computer - i.e. the initial setup with no previous installation having been made on your computer, and including the download of the relevant stock exchange databases Loading additional stock exchange databases Installing additional stock market software modules Applying a software upgrade - i.e. activating the Program Refresh process Repairing a corrupt installation Removing your stock market software from a computer Troubleshooting These processes are all handled via our isetup tool. Note: The first two processes include the download of historic stock exchange data; however, this guide does not cover the on-going update of the daily data to your stock exchange databases. The data-update process is outlined in our Auto Update Guide. Although this looks like a big document you only need to read through the sections related to your needs. For example, if you are installing the software for the first time just read Section 1.0, Acquiring the isetup Tool, and Section 2.0, Installing Your Stock Market Software. Installation Guide 2
1.0 Acquiring the isetup Tool Installation Guide 3
1. On the computer on which you wish to install the PrimeCharts stock market software open your internet browser, go to http://online.primecharts.com and log in. If you have not set up a PrimeCharts Online account, click on the Set Up New Account link to do so. 2. Once logged in to the PrimeCharts Online Web site navigate to the isetup tab and download the isetup tool to your computer desktop. Of the two links available on our Web site the compressed (.zip) format will provide a quicker download as the file size is smaller. If you are not experienced in unzipping compressed files, and your Internet security allows you to do so, then rather download the executable (.exe) file. 3. When you click on the download link you will be prompted to Run, Save or Cancel. Select Save and save the isetup file to your computer desktop. If you downloaded the zipped form of isetup, then unzip its contents to your computer desktop. 4. You will need a serial number and password for the installation using the isetup tool. You can obtain all your latest serial numbers from the Serial Numbers quick-link on the left of the Home Page (once you have logged in). This is the first screen you see after logging into the online site. You will be e- mailed your serial number/s and password. 5. If you have not already done so, select the PDF Docs. tab and download the PrimeCharts Installation Guide - this document! Download any other documents that may be relevant. Installation Guide 4
With some of the newer versions of Windows, you may need to validate that the downloaded isetup file is safe, and you are happy for it to be run on your computer. To do this, right click on the isetup icon and select Properties (as per picture). In the bottom right corner of the general Properties tab, there may be a button called Unblock as per the picture below. If there is no Unblock button below the Advanced button in the general Properties tab of the isetup, then just proceed to the next step. If there is an Unblock button, click on it to unblock this file and mark it as safe. You will not be able to run isetup unless you do this. The button will disappear after being clicked on. Next click Apply and then OK. You will now be able to run isetup. Installation Guide 5
2.0 Installing Your Stock Market Software Installation Guide 6
This process involves using the New Installation feature of the isetup tool. The New Installation feature will ensure that all the program files for your charting software are loaded, as well as the stock exchange historical databases that you purchased. Should you have purchased more than one stock exchange database and not wish to load all of them, perhaps due to computer hard-disk space constraints, the installation process allows you to choose which databases to load. This feature will be highlighted at the appropriate step. 1. Navigate to your computer desktop. If your isetup icon is not on your computer desktop, then use your Windows Start menu to navigate to the isetup program. 2. Open the isetup program by double clicking on the icon (or selecting it from your Start menu). 3. If the following window pops up, click Run to open the isetup program. This is a totally safe action! 4. Read the licence agreement and, if you accept it, tick the box below it. 5. Click Next> to proceed with the setup. Installation Guide 7
6. Enter the serial number and password issued to you when you purchased the software and databases. If you have more than one serial number, then use the number relevant to the computer on which the software is to be installed. If you have been sent an updated serial number, then use this most recent serial number. If you are not sure that you have your latest serial number, request via PrimeCharts Online that it be e- mailed to you. Don t exactly know how to do this? Go to page 53 for step-bystep instructions. 7. The setup program will automatically select New Installation. Note: If the Type of Installation has not defaulted to New Installation, then there is an existing installation your computer. To install a copy of the software on a secondary drive or folder click on New Installation to change the type of installation to a new installation, and then browse to select the installation location (as discussed in step 8). 8. Only if you access the Internet from behind a firewall, click on the Firewall button to open the Proxy/Firewall Details window. In this example the default setting is displayed, namely, No Proxy (Direct Access). Depending on the requirements given by your network administrator click on the relevant Access Type. For more information on proxy settings see Section 7.1 on page 49. Installation Guide 8
If you access the Internet via a Named Proxy, then enter the Proxy Server Name, and if required, the Username and Password for the proxy. Click OK to close the window and save your proxy/firewall details. 9. The setup program offers a default installation location - as presented in the Path field. To install the software in a different location click on the browsing button [...] and make your choice, or simply type in your preferred installation location in place of the default location. 10. Click Next> to continue with your installation criteria, viz. to select which databases to install. The following stock exchange databases contain more than one exchange: UK stock exchange database consists of the: London Stock Exchange (LSE), and Alternate Investment Market (AIM) USA stock exchange database consists of the: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), American Stock Exchange (AMEX), and NASDAQ Exchange (NASDAQ) Installation Guide 9
11. The setup program will automatically select to install all software and databases purchased. To prevent the installation of a database, un-tick the relevant box. In the following screen examples: Client A has purchased and chosen to download the Johannesburg stock exchange historical data... Client B has purchased and chosen to download the Australian stock exchange historical data... Installation Guide 10
Client C has purchased Australian, Johannesburg, UK and USA stock exchange historical data, and has chosen to download all the databases... This option will set the update criteria in the Auto Update program. Launch in Program - choose to have the stock exchange database launched immediately when you open your charting software. This option allows you to select which databases you always want to use when you open your charting software. In the following screen examples: Client A has chosen to go with the default options... Installation Guide 12
Client B has also chosen to go with the default options... Client C has chosen to autoupdate all the databases that will be downloaded, excluding the Johannesburg exchange, and to only launch the Global, UK and USA stock exchange databases when he opens his charting software... Client C has chosen these options because he currently does not trade in the Johannesburg and Australian listed shares, although he still subscribes to these exchanges. Therefore, he does not want these databases automatically launched each time he opens his charting software. Also, due to space constraints on his computer he has opted to not update the Johannesburg database. Once Client C has opened his charting software he can choose to launch and analyse the Australian and Johannesburg stock exchange databases. Installation Guide 13
Client D has chosen to autoupdate all the databases that will be downloaded, and to only launch the Global and UK stock exchange databases when he opens his charting software... 14. 7.0 Troubleshooting Installation Guide 48
7.1 Internet Connection Errors Problem During the installation process one of the following error messages pops up: WINHTTP NAME NOT RESOLVED WINHTTP TIMEOUT or another WINHTTP... message Reason 1 Your internet connection has been temporarily interrupted. Solution 1 Check that your internet connection is established and click the Try Again button. OR Reason 2 The anti-virus software on your computer is blocking the download of the isetup software. This does not mean that there is a virus infection. Some popular names used by software components (such as our isetup.exe) are commonly targeted by viruses - and thus often warned/blocked by anti-virus programs even if they are not infected with a virus. Solution 2 If safely possible, temporarily disable any anti-virus/internet security programs. You can usually do this by right-clicking on the icon in the System Tray next to the time in the lowerright corner of your computer screen. OR Installation Guide 49
Reason 3 The network security/firewall/proxy server settings required for your computer to access the Internet have not been set up on your computer, or have not been updated to the latest required settings. Solution 3 Adjust the proxy/firewall settings by clicking on the Properties button in your Setup Error window, and then clicking on the Proxy-Firewall details button in the Properties window. Installation Guide 50
If you are on a corporate network, you may need to obtain some information from your Network Administrator to fill in the details. Typical settings could be: Access Type: Proxy Server Name: Username and Password: Named Proxy This will be an IP address or name - something like 'proxy.yourcompany.com' or '111.222.3.4' This will often be the same as your network log on. Your Network Administrator may also need to allow isetup to send and receive http traffic from the following web addresses: PRG0.inds.co.za PRG1.inds.co.za PRG2.inds.co.za PRG3.inds.co.za PRG4.inds.co.za PRG5.inds.co.za DATA0.inds.co.za DATA1.inds.co.za DATA2.inds.co.za DATA3.inds.co.za DATA4.inds.co.za DATA5.inds.co.za isetup will at regular intervals automatically try to continue with the installation process on the assumption that the lack of internet connectivity was temporary and has been re-established. Installation Guide 51
7.2 Incorrect Password Problem When you start your installation process the following error message pops up indicating that you entered an incorrect password with your serial number. Solution Click on the Properties button and re-enter your password as shown in the following example. Click OK to close the Properties window and save your correct password. Click the Try Again button on the Setup Error screen. OR If you cannot remember your isetup password, request via PrimeCharts Online that it be e- mailed to you. Don t exactly know how to do this? Go to page 52 for step-by-step instructions. Installation Guide 52
7.3 Requesting Your Serial Number/Password via PrimeCharts Online Go to the PrimeCharts Online Web site at http://online.primecharts.com. Log in with your online account details. If you do not as yet have a PrimeCharts Online account, then register by following the Set Up New Account link. After completing the login process click on the Serial Number link on the home page and follow the prompts. Your latest serial number and password will be e-mailed to you within a few minutes. Note: Your isetup password is generated by PrimeCharts when your serial number is issued. You choose a password for your PrimeCharts Online account. Installation Guide 53
7.4 File Could Not Be Deleted Problem After the Program Refresh or Re-install/Repair process has retrieved the needed files over the Internet, a message is displayed that a file cannot be deleted (perhaps ITRAY.exe). Note: Your message could refer to a file other than the bbapi.dll file referred to in this example. The path specified would be to the folder where your charting software has been loaded (C:\MM2 in this example). Reason The Program Refresh or Re-install/Repair process is trying to replace a program file with the newer copy it has downloaded, but Windows is refusing to allow it, as the file is still being used. Your charting software needs to be closed when the refresh or re-install process is performed. A copy of it may be open in the background somewhere, or it crashed and the operating system thinks it is still in use. OR Before performing the Program Refresh or Re-install/Repair you have done a data download and update. OR If you have a Laptop that you put into hibernate or suspend mode, this may have been a few days ago. However, one or more files used by this process are still thought to be in use by the operating system. Solution Close all programs. Reboot your computer. Before opening your charting software or autoupdate program, start isetup and run the Re-install/Repair process with your stock exchange databases not selected, i.e. un-ticked. If your charting software and/or auto-update program open/s automatically as you start Windows, first close them and then perform the Reinstall/Repair process. Installation Guide 54
7.5 Problem or Mismatch in a File Problem When opening your charting software after doing a Program Refresh (which appears to be successful), you get an error message saying that there is a problem with a certain DLL (the STTM.dll in this example), or a mismatch with the entry point of the DLL, and that the program needs to close. It may suggest that you need to re-install your software (exact wording of error message depends on your version of Windows). Reason One or more modules did not refresh correctly, perhaps due to an Internet-related error of some nature. Solution Open isetup and run the Re-install/Repair process with your stock exchange databases not selected, i.e. un-ticked.. isetup will retrieve and refresh all your program modules. After this, the problem should no longer exist. Installation Guide 55
7.6 Program Will Not Run or Crashes Problem After performing a program refresh you try to run your charting software, imodem or Auto Update, but they will not run, or they display an error similar to one of the screens shown here. Note: Different versions of Windows will express the same problem in different words... Reason Our software uses the latest Microsoft Windows routines (called Dynamic Link Libraries or DLL s) and your computer does not have these system files or has an older copy that is not compatible. Even if you have the latest Microsoft system, these system files may not have loaded as Microsoft felt they would not be needed in your specific Windows installation. Sometimes Microsoft may remove them as part of a system update. Installation Guide 56
This error may also occur after Windows has performed an Automatic Update of Windows system files. The solution presented here will resolve this problem as well. Applying this Microsoft solution, even if not needed, will cause no harm to your computer or programs. Solution Microsoft provides the solution in the form of the Visual C++ Re-distributable Setup. We have included a copy of this with the most recent refresh and it should be located in your charting software folder. You need to manually run the Microsoft Re-distributable Setup. Open My Computer and go to your charting software folder (usually C:\mm2). In it you will find a file named vcredist_x86.exe". Simply double click on this file to launch it. The process will start with the display of the Microsoft screen shown. Click Next>. Installation Guide 57
Select Repair and click Next>. Once the repair has been completed click Finish. Should you wish to investigate further, please search the Microsoft site for information on Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86). At the time of writing this document, the information was on the Microsoft web site under this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=a5c84275-3b97-4ab7-a40d- 3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en Installation Guide 58
7.7 Permission Denied Error Message Problem When running a re-installation or repair the following error message appears after the program-refresh part of the setup has successfully completed and the setup process is about to download a database. Reason You are not currently authorised to re-download one or more of your stock market databases. A program refresh needs to be purchased (via the PrimeCharts Online Web site). Once a program refresh, new program module and/or additional database have been purchased you have a 30-day period in which to install or re-install any of your databases. You may perform a program refresh at any stage irrespective. Solution As per the instructions in the error message, click the PrimeCharts Online button in the bottom left corner of the error window to check that you have a valid data subscription and/or program refresh order. Once you have logged on to the PrimeCharts Online Web site, click on the Order Program Refresh link and follow the prompts. Installation Guide 59
Also, remember to close isetup. Once the program refresh has been purchased and you have received e-mail confirmation, then re-run isetup to complete the reinstallation process. Your data subscription has lapsed. Installation Guide 60
