1. Introduction Website Creator Pro is an online Website Design Tool. Website Creator Pro is a template driven website building tool which features a What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editor and many advanced built-in features, called widgets. Website Creator Pro Page 3 of 14 Version 0.5
2. Navigation The functionality of Website Creator Pro is accessed by means of a top navigation bar and the Website Structure tab on the left side of the screen. We will discuss these in the following sections. 2.1. Top Bar The top navigation bar consists of three tabs and five buttons. 2.1.1. Tabs The three tabs are: Style/Details Manage Content Settings Each will be discussed in turn. Style/Details The Style/Details tab sets the template for the site*, element colors, and the default text fonts. * Changing the template in Website Creator Pro will NOT affect the content of the site. Manage Content The Manage Content tab controls widgets, images, widget teasers, and the clipboard. Settings Settings manages SEO, the Meta information for the page. It also contains the General option, which sets the Category and SubCategory of the site s vertical, or business type. 2.1.2. Buttons Preview and Publish buttons function exactly as in EasySiteWizard Pro. The Reset button is an undo button. The Save button saves the changes to the page and clears the Reset history. The? button opens the Advisor tab. 2.2. Website Structure Fly-Out The website structure sliding menu on the left edge of the editor is equivalent to the Menu Editor in EasySiteWizard Pro. 3. Usage The usage of Website Creator Pro will be addressed in this section. 3.1. Editor Opening the application immediately brings the user into the editor. There is no need to select a site to manage, since only one site can be created per hosted domain. Each aspect of using the editor will be treated separately below. 3.1.1. Edit Text Text appears in predefined areas of the page. Click within the text to position the cursor, and then type. The text formatting bar will appear above the text. An empty text element will contain the icon A template may include special text elements marked with icons. The text element marked with is a global text area; this text will appear on every page. A text element marked with is specific to this page only. To type in these areas, right-click the element to position the cursor, then click again. You can now type in this area. 3.1.2. Moving Elements An element can be dragged to a different location. Only certain preset locations are allowed; elements cannot be randomly positioned. 3.2. Manage Content Under manage content, widgets, images & videos, widget teasers, and the clipboard can be accessed. Website Creator Pro Page 5 of 14 Version 0.5
3.2.1. Widgets Widgets are elements which can be added to a web page such as maps, forms, and buttons. Simply grab a widget, drag it over the page, and wait for the Just Drop It box to be displayed. A full treatment of widgets is given in the Widgets Quick-Reference Guide, which can also be downloaded from the Learning Center. 3.2.2. Images Images can be found under both the My Documents and the Media Archive links. Royalty-free images are found under the External Image Sources link. Uploading and Inserting To upload an image: 1. Click the File Manager link 2. Click the Upload Files button at lower left 3. Browse for the image file on the client computer 4. Click the Upload button 5. Close the File Manager The file will now be displayed on the My Documents screen. It can be dragged and dropped onto a web page. To delete an image, click the File Manager link. Hover the mouse pointer over the and click the Delete option. icon Resizing Click and drag the icon in a lower corner to resize the image. Moving Images can be dragged and dropped to reposition them. Access the clipboard under the Manage Content tab to reuse the image. Properties The properties of an image are modified by clicking the configuration icon A form will open that allows you to set the meta information for the image and the action that clicking the image will perform. The possible click options are: None No action performed Full Screen Image will open in a full-screen overlay Internal Link Links to a selected page within the site External Link Links to a URL Download Link Opens a dialog box to download a file from file manager Email Link Creates a mailto link Website Creator Pro Page 7 of 14 Version 0.5
3.2.3. Video A video file can also be dragged onto a web page from the Images and Videos screen. 3.2.4. Widget Teaser A widget teaser is a shortcut to a widget. For example, a widget teaser can link to the Contact Us form widget on another page. Installed widgets will be displayed on the widget teaser screen. Drag and drop them at the desired location. 3.2.5. Clipboard Page elements can be sent to the clipboard by clicking the clipboard icon that appears on mouse-over. The Settings tab has two main sections: SEO Options has several links to sub-functions o o o Browser settings manages the page title, keywords, and description Favicon includes a favicon builder Statistics allows insertion of tracking coding into the webpage General sets the category and Subcategory of the business 3.3.1. SEO Options: Browser Settings Simply fill in the form to set the global meta information for the site. The site title, keywords, and description values are applied to all pages on the site if the page does not have an individual page title set under Website Structure. If meta information is set for an individual page, this global information is ignored for that page. 3.3.2. SEO Options: Favicon The Favicon link displays a favicon building tool. 3.3.3. SEO Options: Statistics Statistics provides an input where tracking coding can be inserted for the site. Tracking coding is used by statistical applications which provide information about the visitors to your site. 3.3.4. General General is used to select the category and subcategory of the business vertical (type of business). These settings may affect the site templates available for the site. 3.4. Top Menu Buttons 3.4.1. Preview and Publish The publish button writes the HTML files for the web pages to the public directory. The Preview button shows what the site will look like without actually publishing it. 3.4.2. Reset The Reset button is like an undo button. The page will revert to the state previous to the current session of editing. Saving the page clears the undo history. 3.4.3. Save The function of this button is self-explanatory. Saving a page will also clear the Reset history for the page. Help The help button opens the Advisor tab at the right edge of the editor. 3.5. Hover the mouse pointer over the Website Structure tab at the left side of the editor to expand the fly-out. Website structure is used to navigate to the different pages of the site within the editor, manage the pages on the site, and to modify the site menu. Click on a page name to navigate to that page in the editor. 3.5.1. Manage Pages Click the Edit button to open the Website Structure editor. Page information is displayed. To edit page properties, click the page to highlight it, and then click the Page Settings button. A form will be displayed in which you can specify the following items: Page Title: the text on the menu button Page URL: the directory in which the page will be published Browser Title: the text in the title bar Description: the text that will appear under the search return Keywords: words that will likely be used to search for your site Add/Delete/Hide Pages To create a new page for the site, click the Add Page button. A blank form as in the previous section will be displayed. Fill in at least the Page Title field. To hide a page, click the box to the right of the page title. The icon been hidden. Manage Site Menu To modify the site menu, click the Edit button. The overall menu style is set within the template and is not alterable. Positioning and level of buttons is adjustable by means of the arrows at the bottom of the fly-out. Highlight a page and click the up/down arrows to change its position in the menu. 4. Issues Error 20 This means the login is not valid. Log into WebsiteOS again. The button for one of my pages is not in the menu. How do I edit it? The button may be hidden or be a sub-menu item. Navigate to the page in the editor using the Website Structure fly-out. I can t drop an element onto the page. You must hold an element over the page until the Just drop it box appears. Release the element and it will drop onto the page at that location. It can be moved later. A widget cannot be added. Certain widgets may only be used once on the site.
