Louis Roederer has always been a firm favourite with us at Northcote, which we now proudly present as our house Champagne. The House of Louis Roederer was founded in 1776 and has been owned by the same family since 1819. The house produces wines from its own vineyards, of a quality and style placing them among the most sought after wines in the world. Owning over 200 acres of the finest vineyards enables this Grande Marque to be self sufficient for at least two thirds of its own production. A solid know-how, the patient workings of time and a respect for the silent ageing process all contribute to the subtle and complex profile of Louis Roederer champagnes. The meticulous care that goes into each wine, clearly distinguishes Louis Roederer above all the rest. FRANCE - CHAMPAGNE NON VINTAGE These wines are made from a blend of different vintage years and exemplify the house style of each producer. They are blended and aged to be drunk upon release. Our selection offers Champagnes of both the highest quality and diversity of styles. 30 Laurent Perrier, Ultra Brut, Tours-Sur-Marne 84.00 32 Louis Roederer, Brut Premier, Reims 65.00 36 Pol Roger, Brut Réserve, Épernay 73.00 38 Bollinger, Special Cuvée, Brut, Aÿ 75.00 39 Charles Heidsieck, Brut Réserve, Reims 80.00 42 Krug, Grande Cuvée, Reims 200.00 BLANC DE BLANCS The Champagne term White of Whites refers descriptively to those Champagnes which are made solely from the Chardonnay grape. This is the most delicate and refined grape in the potential blend for Champagne (the others being Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier). It will come as no surprise that these are the most wonderful aperitifs styles, but also outstanding partners to classic shellfish dishes. Truly hedonistic and recommended unreservedly. 34 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils, Brut, Cuis 1er Cru, Cuis, NV 59.00 40 Ruinart, Reims, NV 90.00 43 Deutz, Aÿ, 2007 99.00 51 Louis Roederer, Reims, 2006 112.00 52 Charles Heidsieck, Blancs des Millénaires, Reims, 1995 195.00 57 Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne, Reims, 1998 195.00 62 Salon, Les Mesnil, Blanc de Blancs, 1999 360.00 VINTAGE & PRESTIGE CUVEE The ultimate expression of a Champagne house, made only in very good years. Many will need little introduction, but it is worth highlighting how fine the 1995, 1996 and 1998 vintages were and how perfectly mature they are now for drinking. If you prefer a slightly fresher and zestier style then 2002 is considered to be the finest vintage to date post millennium. these vintage wines due to their quality and nature are the perfect style of Champagne to accompany food. 50 Louis Roederer, Brut, Reims, 2007 93.00 54 Bollinger, La Grande Année, Brut, Aÿ, 2004 124.00 55 Champagne Deutz, Cuvée William Deutz, Aÿ, 2000 150.00 56 Dom Pérignon, Moët & Chandon, Épernay, 2004 180.00 58 Louis Roederer, Cristal Brut, Reims, 2006 220.00 59 Bollinger R.D., Aÿ, 1996 260.00 49 Clos des Goisses, Philipponnat, Aÿ, 2002 260.00 60 Krug, Brut, Reims, 1998 275.00 61 Dom Pérignon Oenotheque, Moët & Chandon, Épernay, 1995 332.00 63 Bollinger, Vieilles Vignes Françaises, Aÿ, 2000 500.00 5

FRANCE - CHAMPAGNE HALF BOTTLES 1 Louis Roederer, Brut Premier, Reims, NV 33.00 2 Bollinger Rosé, Aÿ, NV 44.00 3 Deutz Rosé, Aÿ, NV 50.50 7 Krug, Grande Cuvée, Reims, NV 100.00 MAGNUMS It is generally accepted that Champagne is at its best when made and matured in magnums. There is finer ratio of wine to the lees to give you that lovely biscuit or brioche character. Greater volume gives smaller bubbles creating a creamy sensation on your palate. 10 Louis Roederer, Brut Premier, Reims, NV 117.00 11 Vilmart & Cie, Grand Réserve, Rilly-La-Montagne, NV 150.00 12 R de Ruinart, Brut, Reims, NV 165.00 13 Louis Roederer, Cristal Brut, Reims, 2002 550.00 ROSE Rosé Champagne is more than an elegant and stylish drink. The black grape element in the blend makes for a fuller, fruitier style, which marries well with even quite rich fish dishes, especially salmon. Also an attractive alternative with English summer fruits and berries. 19 Forget Brimont, Brut Rosé, 1er Cru Ludes, Reims, NV 57.00 20 Bollinger Rosé, Aÿ, NV 85.00 21 Louis Roederer, Rosé, Brut Reims, 2009 91.00 23 Laurent-Perrier, Cuvée Rose Brut, Tours-Sur-Marne, NV 91.00 64 Dom Pérignon, Rosé, Moët & Chandon, Épernay, 2003 320.00 25 Louis Roederer, Cristal Rosé, Reims, 2002 498.00 RICH With extra dosage these are more rounded and less dry expressions than the normal Brut, they are particularly good with a number of soufflés and some savoury dishes on our menu. 45 Louis Roederer, Carte Blanche, Demi Sec, Reims, NV 58.00 46 Veuve Clicquot, Vintage Rich, Reims, 2004 95.00 6

SPARKLING AROUND THE WORLD This section might be labelled as always he bridesmaid never the bride! But that belies the sheer quality and diversity of styles here. Prosecco is the most popular sparkling wine in the UK at the moment and no wonder for its uncomplicated and refreshing fruity style. And to note that this wine comes in two distinct styles Spumante, which means fully sparkling, and Frizzante, which means gently sparkling a version which works especially well with food as a result. We are now offering both styles to give you that option. And as for the English sparkling wines, these are now at the highest quality levels ever so much so that the Champagne houses themselves are looking at investing in English sparkling wine vineyards! We especially recommend Gusbourne now formally recognised at in the English premier league of bottle fermented sparkling wine. And finally, Louis Roederer s Californian Quartet Brut is probably the finest sparkling wine in the New World. Explore and enjoy this section with confidence. FRANCE - ALSACE Alsace stands apart from the rest of France and has endured a history of mixed ownership, before finally becoming part of the Country at the end of the First World War. Surprisingly, with the exception of the Languedoc, Alsace enjoys the sunniest and driest climate in the whole of France. This is due to its location to the east of the Vosges Mountains, which create a rain shadow for the region. Alsace was one of the earliest wine regions in France to focus solely on quality (over quantity). It also pioneered the use and promotion of single grape varietals predominantly white and led by the majestic Riesling. Here is the home to France s greatest range of aromatic white wines, with a supporting cast which includes Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris (aka Grigio) and Pinot Blanc. The wines purity of fruit, body, fine acidity and absence of oak; means that they are exhilarating partners to food. They unquestionably deserve far greater acclaim than they receive. 100 Riesling, Les Princes Abbés, Domaines Schlumberger, 2011 42.00 101 Pinot Blanc, Mise du Printemps, Josmeyer, 2012 45.00 102 Gewürztraminer, Rolly Gassmann, 2002 51.00 103 Pinot Gris, Rolly Gassmann, 2008 53.00 104 Riesling, Les Pierrets, Josmeyer, 2009 85.50 105 Gewürztraminer, Hengst, Grand Cru, Josmeyer, 2000 100.50 106 Riesling, Cuvée Frédéric Emile, Trimbach, 2007 117.00 107 Riesling, Clos Ste Hune, Trimbach, 2007 260.00 8

FRANCE - BORDEAUX With the exception of Champagne, no other region has managed to build such an enviable reputation through the combination of the high quality production and hard PR of just a small number of its top producers. With over 40,000 estates it is an enormous production area and yet it is only the top 2% of Chateaux which carry the imagery and kudos of the region. Nothing would be easier in a Bordeaux section of a wine list than simply selecting a beauty parade of the top names, many of which are now at eye watering prices. However, we have worked hard to put together a selection of classical, but affordable, wines that combine the best of their individual regions, with many from top vintages and at their peak for drinking. We would especially like to recommend the extensive range of Second Wines we have examples of these from all the main Bordeaux communes on the list. These are all from top estates and selected from younger vines and lots but their provenance, pedigree and above all drinkability are outstanding. The section, overall, is geographically structured, by commune, and focused around a selection of Left Bank Cabernet Sauvignon based and Right Bank Merlot based wines. Left Bank wines tend to be more tannic and structured whilst the Right Bank are slightly softer and more supple, but without any loss of power. Bordeaux, whether red, white or sweet, is indisputably a wine made for food and this echoes the whole ethos at Northcote. 110 Château Reynier, Entre-Deux-Mers, 2012 29.00 510 Domaine des Grands Ormes, 2010 30.50 512 Château Reignac, 2002 75.00 LEFT BANK SAINT - ESTEPHE 518 Château Montrose, 2ème Cru Classé, 1995 215.00 519 Château Cos d Estournel, 2ème Cru Classé, 2000 290.00 PAUILLAC 520 Les Tourelles de Longueville, 2ème Vin de Château Pichon Longueville Baron, 86.00 2007 521 Château Batailley, 5ème Cru Classé, 2004 95.00 522 Reserve de Comtesse, 2ème Vin de Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de 105.00 Lalande, 2006 523 Château Grand Puy Lacoste, 5ème Cru Classé, 2001 125.00 524 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, 2ème Cru Classé, 2004 180.00 526 Carruades de Lafite, 2ème Vin de Château Lafite Rothschild, 1996 280.00 527 Château Mouton-Rothschild, 1èr Cru Classé, 2004 340.00 9

FRANCE - BURGUNDY Compared to Bordeaux, Burgundy is a much more complex and for some interesting region. A patchwork of famous vineyards cluster around world renowned Villages in what, thankfully, remains one of France s most unspoilt viticultural areas. The spiritual home of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes; few regions can compare to Burgundy for producing both dry white and red wines of world class, side by side. The key to enjoying Burgundy is to think Producer first, then Vineyard and Village, then Vintage. Great producers tease out remarkable flavours and define the pure diversity and expression of Burgundy s wonderful terroir, and often in less fashionable years. We have done an enormous amount of work on the range and selection of Burgundies and believe it is the finest offering we have ever put together. Whether you enjoy the steely, low oak emphasis of Chablis or the weight and texture of a Cote de Beaune, we have a broad and very fine selection of white Burgundy. Equally, the reds encapsulate all the hedonistic, yet refined and diverse elegance of Pinot Noir. The list of producers reads nothing short of a who s who in the region and we recommend these wines unreservedly and as ever at Northcote with food and wine pairing in mind. FRANCE BURGUNDY PULIGNY MONTRACHET 13

FRANCE BURGUNDY PULIGNY MONTRACHET Puligny is a place of pilgrimage, but also a paradox. It is a place of worship of the greatest dry white wines and most precise expression of the Chardonnay grape - on the planet. But it is also a source of frustration for all those winemakers in other areas (Old and New World) who strive to emulate its quality - and sense of precision and provenance. The village itself is quietly discreet - in fact only beaten for soporific intensity by its near neighbour Chassagne. There is a sense of surety and tradition which emanates through the narrow streets and this is a place where you feel might be the last to abandon the traditional two hour French lunch sojourn. Within its sparse 111 hectares of vine are 71 different growers and this tells a perverse story. Because there are so few Domaines the majority of wine made in the village ends up in the (often very good name) bottles of Negociants Puligny, with only a small part of the (paltry) 120,000 cases produced in an average year under top Domaine names. Within the commune there are 3 distinct physical vineyard bands from the scree, slate and marlstone of Combettes and Referts on the Meursault border, which produce some of the more delicate (but never light) and very elegant styles of Puligny. Towards the centre eg Clavoillon and Folatières - where the soils are deeper and with more clay and limestone you get a firmer and more mineral style. Finally near and around the Grand Crus, the Premier Crus consist of clay loam and fragmented marl and lime stone. Here, not unsurprisingly, the climats come nearest to the exalted refinement of Grand Crus - led by Pucelles - with accentuated minerality and intense fruit and floral notes. Such is the almost ethereal quality of great Puligny that we thought you might enjoy a page and selection devoted to this commune, but showcasing the subtle differences between the Premier Crus in particular. Topping and tailing the range is a super baby Puligny Bourgogne Blanc from Etienne de Montille which comes from within the closed walls of the Château de Puligny, and a truly precise and vibrant Villages Puligny from Alain Chavy. At the other end of the scale there are three outstanding Grand Crus. The sandwich centre selection of Premier Crus example six of the very best vineyards from six of the very best producers and from a complete cross section of fine vintages. This is a page for the purist and hedonist alike! 14

FRANCE LOIRE VALLEY The Loire is France s longest river (at over 1,000 kms) and probably its most beautiful no wonder it was the holiday home of the pre revolution aristocracy and why they built over 300 grand Châteaux along its banks. So much so, that in 2000, UNESCO added the central part of the Loire to its list of World Heritage Sites. With its more marginal, northerly climate the Loire is home to some of the most elegant and racy white wines in the world, although it also produces underrated sparkling, red and rosé wine. With over 87 wine producing areas there is much to choose from. The most famous of these are probably Sancerre (and its near neighbour Pouilly Fumé), which are the spiritual homes of Sauvignon Blanc, and Vouvray the home of Chenin Blanc, which makes a complete range of styles from bone dry to succulently sweet. Tucked away in this vinous vein of France are numerous rarefied delights, such as Savennières, Jasnières, (sweet) Coteaux du Layon (red) Chinon and one of the UK s long term restaurant allies Muscadet. 168 Touraine, Sauvignon, Domaine des Corbillières, 2013 30.00 170 Vouvray, Sec Silex, Domaine Vigneau Chevreau, 2013 39.50 171 Pouilly-Fumé, Domaine Thibault, André Dezat et Fils, 2013 42.50 172 Sancerre, Domaine de la Garenne, Bernard-Noël Reverdy, 2013 47.50 175 Vouvray, Le Mont Sec, Domaine Huet, 2010 63.00 176 Jasnières, Les Rosiers, Domaine de la, Bellievière, 2011 63.50 177 Savennières, Chamboureau, Domaine FL, 2008 69.00 178 Montlouis, Domaine de la Tailleaux Loups, Clos de Mosny, 2012 79.00 179 Sancerre, Les Monts Damnés, Chavignol, François Cotat, 2010 91.00 181 Pur Sang, Blanc Fumé de Pouilly, Domaine Didier Dagueneau, 2010 145.00 182 Pouilly-Fumé, Silex, Didier Dagueneau, 2008 150.00 ROSE 183 Sancerre, Pascal Jolivet, 2012 51.50 184 Sancerre, Chavignol, François Cotat, 2011 63.00 595 Chinon, Les Varennes du Grand Clos, Charles Joguet, 2010 50.50 596 Sancerre, Pascal Jolivet, 2010 51.00 18

FRANCE RHONE VALLEY The Rhône River is not the longest in France it is arguably the most important. The Rhône was the very gateway by which the Romans brought the vine into France and, from there, introduced it across the country. As this majestic river sweeps through Lyon it starts its twisted journey into the heart of the wine country. Precipitous granite vineyards hug the river from the roasted slopes of Côte-Rôtie, past Condrieu before turning around the famous hill of Hermitage. Tiny though these vineyards are it is the very heart of this Appellation and the spiritual home of the Syrah (and Viognier) grape. The reds of this area are, at their best, the most richly structured and refined style. To the south the river the landscape softens and its pinnacle is indisputably found at Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here the great red grape of the southern Rhône Grenache is at its zenith and these fine wines rival the best of the northern Rhône. With their bold red fruit compote and Indian spice flavours, they are completely different in style, but just a good and as with the wines of the North perfect partners for classical main and full bodied dishes. FRANCE LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON As the biggest area of France under vine, Languedoc-Roussillon offers a vast variety of wines. Often overlooked in favour of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone, Languedoc-Roussillon provides a vast diversity in styles of wine ranging from still, sparkling, dry through to lusciously sweet Vin Doux Naturel. Thanks to the flexibility of the Vin de Pays classification, producers have the freedom and opportunity to experiment with different grape varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Viognier; all successful across France but displaying the unique style and warmth from this Southerly Mediterranean region. Carignan, Mauzac and Piquepoul are considered to be indigenous to the area and surely define Languedoc-Rousillon as a classic French wine region. Languedoc-Roussillon can offer a wine fit for any occasion and their wines can enhance many a meal. Elegant seafood and poultry dishes work beautifully with the freshness of Picpoul de Pinet. Hearty and rich red meat dishes are outstanding with Fitou or Corbieres. Sweet desserts and cheeses work wonderfully with Vin Doux Naturel. 211 Picpoul de Pinet, Cuvée Prestige, Domaine des Lauriers, Languedoc, 2013 28.00 213 Bergerie de l Hortus Classique Blanc, Domaine de L Hortus, Languedoc, 2012 46.00 214 Clos des Papillons, Vin de Pays de l Hérault, Mas Gabriel, Languedoc, 2010 48.00 216 Limoux, Cuvée Oppidum, Château de Gaure, Languedoc, 2012 53.00 217 Grande Cuvée Blanc, Domaine de L Hortus, Languedoc, 2012 64.00 615 Côtes du Roussillon Villages, Les Grands-mères, Vieilles Vignes, Domaine des Chênes, Roussillon, 2009 32.50 616 Les Trois Terresses, Vin de Pays de l Hérault, Mas Gabriel, Languedoc, 2009 37.50 617 Palagret, Domaine de Clovaillon, Languedoc, 2012 48.00 618 Fitou, Les Mégalithes, Domaine Bertrand Bergé, Languedoc, 2008 53.00 619 Grande Cuvée Rouge, Domaine de L Hortus, Languedoc, 2011 67.00 21
