SAICA and Sage One - South Africa s leading provider of online accounting software, support the advancement of accounting learners. The SAICA Sage One Pastel Accounting Olympiad is for accounting and pure maths learners in Grades 11 and 12. Schools are selected by the various Provincial Departments of Education, in conjunction with SAICA to participate. The learners are then selected by their educators to enter the Olympiad. The Olympiad covers both the Grade 11 and 12 accounting syllabus. Why should learners enter? The SAICA Sage One Accounting Olympiad promotes a healthy competitive environment amongst learners, and serves as a good practice session for learners to test their general knowledge and skills of accounting. The Olympiad is a prestigious event and the prizes are valued at a whopping R300 000! Why is it important for schools to enter learners? Learners preparing for the Olympiad will be at an advantage, as they will improve their accounting skills, marks and enhance their preparedness for tertiary education. Besides the amazing prizes for learners and schools, winning schools will receive a free copy of the Sage Pastel Certified School Programme. This is an interactive computer-driven Accounting learning package, written to meet all the National Curriculum Statement outcomes for Accounting in Grades 11 and 12. It offers exposure to computerised accounting while explaining and reinforcing accounting principles in a fun learning environment fantastic for educators as it has self-marking assessments! Who can enter the SAICA Sage One Accounting Olympiad? Grade 11 and 12 Accounting learners are encouraged to enter the Olympiad. SAICA s project managers will work together with Provincial Departments of Education to identify schools within the respective provinces to participate in the Olympiad (500 learners will be selected per province). Ten to fifteen learners will be selected and entered by the educators of the selected schools. When and where does the SAICA Sage Accounting Olympiad take place? The Olympiad will be written on Wednesday, the 3rd of August 2016 and the closing date for entries is 30 April 2016. Schools must submit a minimum of ten entries and a maximum of fifteen entries per school. If entry forms are received with fewer than ten entries or more than fifteen entries, the school will be automatically disqualified. Schools must ensure that the number of learners registered is the exact number of learners that write the test even if they substitute learners. All papers must be written concurrently in venues at participating schools invigilated by an invigilator appointed by the school. #accountingrocks #saica #sageone
How to enter To enter your ten to fifteen top learners from Grade 11 and 12, follow these easy steps below: Step 1 Ten of the top accounting and core maths learners from Grades 11 and 12 must be selected by the school or accounting educator to enter the Olympiad. Step 2 Learner details must be completed on the form that you will have received from your SAICA Project Manager; schools must then e-mail it back to the relevant Project Manager in the relevant province as indicated below. Please ensure the learners are available and ready to write the 3-hour paper on Wednesday, the 3rd of August 2016. The prizes Prizes this year will total a whopping R300 000! Sage One has pulled out all the stops with some amazing prizes on offer. The overall winning learner The learner that obtains the highest mark nationally for the SAICA Sage One Accounting Olympiad will win a laptop. The winning learner from each province The top learner from each province, that achieves the highest percentage will win a R2 000 cash prize. Two runners up in each province will each win a R1 000 cash prize. The best performing school and educator The winning school and its educator for every province will each receive a prize. Each winning school will be awarded 2 x desktop computers including the NCS Pastel software for Grades 11 to 12. The best performing school will be the school with the highest aggregate. To qualify for the prize the school must obtain an average of 50% or above in the Olympiad. The winning schools educator will also win R2000 in cash.
Competition rules 1. The SAICA Sage Pastel Accounting Olympiad is ONLY open to learners in Grade 11 & 12. 2. The prizes are not transferable to any other learner or school and will be awarded as stipulated under the section titled The Prizes. 3. All papers must be written concurrently in venues at participating schools invigilated by an invigilator appointed by the school. Learners must write the Olympiad at the agreed upon time to qualify as a valid entrant. 4. The paper will be set by an external examiner and will test the learner s ability to reason, think through and solve accounting based problems. 5. The paper will be delivered to the schools on the day of the Olympiad. 6. The papers will be marked and moderated by SAICA-appointed markers. No correspondence will be entered into once the results have been announced. 8. No paper will be re-marked. Copies of the paper will not be sent to learners. 9. Examination rules as applied by the Department of Education/Umalusi shall be applicable to the SAICA Sage Pastel Accounting Olympiad. Any breach thereof shall be dealt in a manner consistent with the rules as set by Umalusi. 10. Prize-winners will be notified via telephone of their success. 11. If entry forms are received with fewer than ten entries or more than fifteen entries, the school will be automatically disqualified. 12. Schools must ensure that the number of learners registered is the exact amount of learners that write the test even if they substitute learners. 13. Teachers who have relatives at the school who will be writing the examination must declare this to the organisers. If such discovery is not made, the candidate will be disqualified. 14. Please note that only the first 500 learners to register for the Accounting Olympiad in each Province will receive a T-Shirts. 15. Only accounting and core math learners from Grades 11 and 12 must be selected. Applications with incomplete learner information will be disqualified.
