2 HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN WEALTH MANAGEMENT (NQF 5) The aim of the Higher Certificate in Wealth Management is to provide learners with a wide range of specialised and technical skills, as well as broad-based knowledge of the applicable legislation, economic principles and the financial services industry. Learners will be exposed to the important terms, rules, concepts, principles and theories of Wealth Management. Once qualified, it will be sufficient for all requirements determined by the FAIS Act needed by financial advisors, brokers and administrators. You will also be exempt from the competency exam set by the FPI, for access to your RFP status. It also allows for FPI student membership at registration. The Higher Certificate in Wealth Management will be sufficient for all requirements determined by the FAIS Act needed by financial advisors, brokers and administrators. WHAT WILL THE QUALIFICATION ENABLE YOU TO DO? The purpose of the Higher Certificate: Wealth Management qualification is to build the knowledge and skills required by employees in Wealth Management (who have achieved a qualification equivalent to NQF Level 4) that are ready to study at Level 5. It is intended to help learners acquire knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate ethically and responsibly in the highly regulated Financial Services environment and to respond to the challenges posed by the changing nature of the Financial Services Industry. It should add value to the qualifying learner in terms of enrichment of the person, status, licensing and recognition. It provides a framework for learners to develop competencies related to the Long-term Insurance sub-sector, which includes Life Benefits, Retirement Funds, as well as the Collective Investment sub-sector, Wealth Creation and Wealth Management. It provides a balanced learning experience and an opportunity for learners to apply academic skills in relation to the workplace. It is structured in such a way that it exposes learners to generic competencies required in the Financial Services Sector at Level 5 and allows for specialisation to meet the needs of different work roles. 2
3 WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Intermediaries including, but not limited to, Financial Advisors, Personal Financial Planners, Financial Services Call Centre Agents, Client Service Providers, Brokers, Broker Consultants, Retirement Fund Consultants, Retirement Fund Administrators, Trust Fund Officers, Product Developers, Consultants who advise on product structures of Retirement Funds, Principal Officers, Trustees, Medical Scheme Consultants, Senior Administrators, Retail Managers who support Advisors and have a back-office function, Collective Investment Scheme Managers, Account Executives and Compliance Officers. THIS QUALIFICATION IS IDEAL FOR: Access to the Financial Services Industry. Entry level financial advisors. The Qualification is a holistic introduction to Wealth Management and Wealth Creation. Facilitated classes will be subject to sufficient numbers. PAYMENT DEADLINE: Payment needs to be made before the commencement of the learning programme. START DATE AND END DATE: For distance learners, blended learners and online learners this will not be applicable. Facilitated classes will depend on sufficient number of registrations. 5 LEARNING MATERIAL Every single educational module on the curriculum has an accompanying Learner Guide, which includes prescribed reading, practical assignments, assessment activities and tutorial letters. In addition, a textbook is also prescribed to supplement the readings. In the event that you are unable to understand a question, you can contact us and we will provide you with the contact details of our Academic Head or a contracted assessor to assist you in answering your queries. In case of a cancellation after registration, but before material is received, a 50% cancellation fee will apply. 2. A 100% cancellation fee (thus no refund) will apply if any material has been received. 3. If the full amount for the qualification has been paid, and the student drops out mid-qualification (after attending at least 1 (one) learning programme) without a valid reason, we reserve the right not to refund the remainder of the fees. 4. Approved substitutes (candidates complying with the qualification access requirements) are welcome at no extra charge, as long as all required documentation reach us within 1 (one) working day of payment being made. 6 ACCREDITATION AND CERTIFICATION Certification Moonstone Business School of Excellence (Pty) Ltd acknowledges that, certification in vocational education and training and the content of the certificate, are regulated by the National Board of Education and governed by the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No 101 of 1997) as well as Regulation 1 of the Regulations for the Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2002 (hereafter referred to as the Regulations ). Institutional vocational education and training Learners are awarded a qualification certificate upon the successful completion of all the learning programmes required for the qualification. A student resigning without completing the qualification is given a certificate of resignation, which lists the completed studies and their grades. On request, learners may also be granted a certificate of completed studies while still continuing the programme. The specific qualification certificate will be issued by Moonstone Business School of Excellence. METHOD OF TRAINING Distance learning No classroom training will be available. All interaction will be via or directly to the assessor. Learning material will be provided in hard copy. The Portfolio of Evidence (POE) must be handed in on the day of the summative assessment. The summative assessments will be done in one of our national examination centres (paper-based). The timeline will be adapted for each individual learner. Facilitated learning Classroom training will be arranged (for 15 students or more). Learning material will be provided in hard copy. This material must be brought to classroom training sessions. During training the learning material will be discussed and candidates will start with the completion of the Portfolio of Evidence (POE). The POE must be handed in on the day of the summative assessment. The summative assessments will be done in one of our national examination centres (paper-based). ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 1. Learners should be competent in Communication and Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 4. Knowledge, comprehension and application of the English language and Mathematics at NQF Level 4 (Grade 12 or equivalent level), are required. Why? The medium of instruction is English and mathematical principles are applied in the learning programmes. In order to determine the curriculum for which a student may register, the APS point system applies. 2. Learners also need to comply with the minimum APS Score for the qualification. 3. Individuals who do not meet the entry requirements, can enrol with MBSE for one of the Long-term Insurance or Wealth Management Qualifications at NQF Level 4. After successful completion, they can continue with the NQF 5 qualification. 6
7 APS Score Table The table below explains the minimum entry requirements for the Higher Certificate in Wealth Management NQF Level 5. QUALIFICATION Higher Certificate in Wealth Management: NQF 5 MINIMUM STATUARY ENTRY REQUIREMENT Pass National Senior Certificate (NSC): An achievement rating of 3 (40 49%) or better in four subjects, 24 APS points (see below), together with any other MBSE requirement. HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR ADMISSION POINT SCORE The APS system allocates point values to the levels of achievement obtained for matric subjects; Write down your relevant NSC (National Senior Certificate) subjects and the symbols obtained; Allocate points according to the table below; Add up the number of points you have to calculate the APS. Online Assessment The online assessment needs to be completed on the date as provided on the programme. A step-by-step instruction how to complete the online assessment below: NOTE: You need to register and be approved for the learning programme in question before the online assessment will be available on your online profile. Please do not leave the registration for the day of the deadline. Step-By-Step Guide on how to complete the online assessment: Please follow the link: Log in with your username and password that you created during registration. Should you have any problems to log in after this, please send an to learning@mbse.ac.za No password enquiries will be dealt with telephonically, for quality-assurance and record-keeping purposes. Note that you need a secure internet connection for this assessment. Any connection failures will result in the assessment failing to load. You will then have to start over. You cannot start the assessment, save and come back to it later. You will need to complete all questions in one attempt. If there is a problem with the system on our side, we do receive communication from the developers and we will inform you. If you are having a problem with the system that persists and we have not sent our communication, please check your internet connection. You will have two attempts at the Mock assessment, but only one opportunity to pass the Online assessment. 7
8 2. Case Study The case study needs to be completed and submitted to the invigilator for assessment on the summative assessment (written exam) date. You will not be able to write the summative assessment if your case study is not submitted. Note that the case study needs to be completed in your own words. It is required to type your responses in either Arial or Tahoma font 11, as it makes it more legible and easier for the assessor and moderator to assess and moderate. Ensure further that you complete the following documentation on the first pages of the case study: Personal Details. An original certified copy of your ID (a copy of a certified copy is not allowed). Certificate of Authenticity must be signed. Please ensure that you make a copy of your case study for your own records, before you submit it. 3. Summative assessment (written exam) The exam will take place on the assessment day as per the program. NOTE that the following is applicable to this assessment: Closed-book summative assessment; Only blue or black ink is allowed; No correction fluid is allowed; Calculators permitted (HP10bII or similar is the required calculator); Maximum 3 hours exam; Seats must be taken by 08:30 for administration procedures to commence. PROCESS ON ASSESSMENT DAY An invigilator will receive students on the day of assessment at the prescribed venue. It is of the utmost importance to complete, sign and submit the following documentation on the day of assessment: Sign the MBSE attendance register. Hand in your fully completed case study with all the necessary documents and attachments (Please note: your assessments will not be sent to an assessor if any documentation is outstanding or incomplete). Online assessment to be completed on or before the prescribed date. Failure to do the above mentioned will result in non-attendance and the learner will be charged with the full fee. The invigilator will remind you at the beginning of the assessment to complete the documentation and assist you accordingly. You will not be allowed to write the assessment if you do not submit your case study on the day of assessment. 8
9 HOW TO REGISTER? Each Learning Programme is an independent programme and one can enrol at any time for these learning programmes, however you cannot proceed with a next Learning Programme if the preceding Learning Programme has not been successfully passed. Registration is flexible and can be done 5 days a week for distance learning (subject to monthly registration windows) and facilitated learning. For facilitation, a minimum of 15 candidates are required.
