GOAL: It is the goal of ISAAC S Facilities Department, with the involvement of the entire ISAAC Community, to promote a program for Healthier Cleaning within our facility. Only Environmental Preferable Cleaning Products, certified with a third party company and meet the state of CT requirements will be used for the daily cleaning of our facility. Healthier Cleaning will not only protect the wellbeing of custodians but also the health of students, staff and visitors.
CLEANING PRODUCTS: No parent, guardian, teacher or staff member may bring into the school facility any consumer product which is intended to clean, deodorize, sanitize or disinfect. All cleaning products used will be non-toxic and will be certified by a third company (GREEN SEAL). Environmentally-friendly cleaning products (GREEN) are defined as products that are none poisonous and do not harm the environment, humans or animals such as hydrogen based products do. All Cleaning agents used will have Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) located in the Facilities Department Office. MSDS is a document that gives you detailed information about the nature of the chemical, such as: it s physical and chemical properties, fire, health, safety and environmental hazards. ISAAC staff will be provided with a multipurpose cleaner and microfiber cloths.

CARPET CARE All carpets will be vacuumed daily Any spill should be reported immediately for proper cleanup Spot cleaning of the carpets will be done as needed. All carpets will be cleaned twice a year (winter/summer breaks) with BETCO # 11 Green Earth Peroxide Cleaner HARD FLOORS (VCT) Vinyl Composite Tile All hard floors will be cleaned daily with a Microfiber dust mop and wet mop A scrub and recoat will be done every year during the summer break A full floor stripping will be scheduled every third summer break. DUST Utilize vacuums (upright/backpack) and floor buffers with a HEPA filters Micro-Fiber cloths, dusting tools and floor mops Vacuum walk-off mats daily (before/after kids arrive in the morning) Eliminate bus/truck idling IRRITANTS Avoid any upholstered furniture donations Avoid use of any personal fragrances Replace carpets every fifteen years Ban pets from being in school, except for a one day educational purpose
Step1: Empty trash and remove sanitary napkins from bins daily Dust air vents and all horizontal surface with microfiber dusters Check daily (replace if needed) all toilet tissue/paper towel dispensers
Step2: Clean all stainless steel, mirrors and glass with BETCO #11 multipurpose cleaner and a BLUE microfiber cloth Clean sinks, paper dispensers and hand soap dispensers with BETCO #11 multi-purpose cleaner and a GREEN microfiber cloth, disinfect with BETCO #27 and a RED microfiber cloth. Also every other week wash and disinfect all restroom partitions with a RED microfiber cloth. Clean and disinfect urinals and toilets daily (It is important not to forget to capture a clean look under and behind toilet and sinks )
Step3: First dust mop, then wet mop(microfiber mops) the entire restroom floor using a two(2) section Mop Bucket and BETCO S # 11 multi-purpose cleaner or #27 Disinfectant

BLUE RECYCLING BIN Every classroom/office within the school building will have a Blue Recycling Bin Newspaper, printing paper, colored paper, white paper, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, glass food and beverage jars and containers can all be placed in the Blue Bin Cardboard boxes, BROKEN DOWN and FLAT (cereal, prepared foods, detergent-type and delivery boxes) should be left behind the blue bin to be picked-up for recycling Single Stream is a cost-affective recycling program that allows all recycling materials to go into the same bin and be recycled
HEALTHIER GREEN CLEANING PROGRAM IN SCHOOLS (CT PUBLIC ACT 09-81) ATTACHMENT A HEALTHIER GREEN PRODUCT LISTING This chart lists the types, names and manufacturers of the GREEN products used by our school as well as the location/area of application and the schedule of when each is used. The State of Connecticut is requiring that each local and regional board of education implement a green cleaning program for all school buildings and facilities in its district. PRODUCT /TYPE NAME MANUFACTURER LOCATION /AREA FREQUENC Y/ SCHEDULE The Interdistrict School for Arts and Communication (ISAAC) is committed to the implementation of this law by providing the staff and, upon request, the parents and guardians of each child enrolled in our school with a written statement of the school s Healthier Green Cleaning Program as well as making it available on our web site annually. The policy will also be distributed to new staff hired during the school year and to parents or guardians of students transferring in during the school year. A Green Cleaning Program means the procurement and proper use of environmentally preferable cleaning products as defined by the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) for all state owned buildings, schools and facilities. DAS currently requires that environmentally preferable cleaning products be independently certified by one of two third party certified organizations: Green Seal or Eco Logo By July 1, 2011 and thereafter no person shall use a cleaning product in a public school unless it meets the DAS standard. The types of cleaning products covered in this legislation include: general purpose, bathroom, and glass cleaners, floor strippers and finishes, hand cleaners and soaps. The following statement will be part of this school s Green Cleaning Program as stated in the new law: NO PARENT, GUARDIAN, TEACHER OR STAFF MEMBER MAY BRING INTO THE SCHOOL FACILITY ANY CONSUMER PRODUCT WHICH IS INTENDED TO CLEAN, DEODORIZE, SANITIZE OR DISINFECT The implementation of this program requires the support and cooperation of everyone including administrators, faculty, staff, parents, guardians and facilities staff.
