Welcome to this Newsletter Bulletin which includes details of:- Our new Website Local Tournaments Upcoming Events Summer Fixture List Don has submitted an article which our committee has responded to. It would be nice to receive a few more articles like this so if any member has anything they would like me to include in the newsletter, or perhaps a response to anything they read, please send it to me via the new website. The good news is that it looks like spring has official sprung. The field is beginning to dry out so we look forward to some more sunny and dry days ahead. Happy shooting. Ros 'Our NEW website is now up and running! The web address is www.eastbournearchers.btck.co.uk It is still being worked on, but everyone can now use the new website to find out information about the club and up and coming events. Please have a look and any feedback is very welcome. Upcoming Events Membership Renewals are now due. Don t forget to return yours to Andrew by 31 st March 2014 Sunday 16 th March - Spring Fun Shoot We look forward to seeing lots of our member, including our juniors for this relaxed event. Please arrive at 9.30 to begin shooting at 10am. Don t forget prizes are up for grabs. Sunday 23 rd March - Indoor Championship At Hampden Park Sports Centre arriving at 3.15pm for set up. This year the Championship round is a Portsmouth.

A Personal Opinion This article reflects my opinion only and I m not claiming that anyone else shares my view. It s also something that will come as no surprise to members who ve been in the club for some time and seen my previous attempts at changing the system! As I m as far right as you can go while still keeping friends, it s perhaps odd that this is about equality within the club, (must have a streak of communism hidden deep!!). Since we moved from the Saffrons and acquired the container, I ve tried, at various times, to convince the committee that all members should have equal access; that is everyone should have, (after a suitable period as a member and with the necessary commitment, payment, checks etc.), the right to keys to the gate and all other facilities; it might also be necessary to secure the equipment inside the Clubhouse. However, I ve never been able to convince enough committee members, (not necessarily the present ones), and when the new Clubhouse was built the restrictions moved from the container to the Clubhouse, and the container then had access to all. This isn t at all sour grapes as I ve always had full access because of my history with the club; (in the past 38 years I ve been Chairman, Records Officer, Treasurer, (three times), Equipment Officer several times and a coach since 1979). I also believe that if you pay your subs you don t have to do anything more to get full rights, everything else, from volunteering to going on the committee, is what it says, voluntary, with no expectation of payment or privilege. Don From The Committee The committee s reply The committee has carefully considered Don's thoughts on the question of keys being available for everyone in the club to have, and have decided that this would not be feasible on several grounds. The biggest issue would be individual responsibility for every piece of equipment in the store/clubroom. We have thousands of pounds worth of bows, cases, arrows, bosses etc in the store and these are insured on the basis that we only have a limited number of responsible adults with access. For your information our equipment is insured for 15,000. If the key were to be given to everyone, or parents of Junior s, this places an enormous responsibility on them to see that the store was properly locked and that their key did not get into the wrong hands if it were lost. We do have an ongoing problem on summer evenings with some of the local youths who would take great delight in trashing everything if they managed to get in the store because a member who maybe came down by themselves did not properly lock up. We appreciate that on a few occasions - usually a Sunday morning - that no-one from the committee or a coach was available to unlock the store, but we have now addressed this and it should mean that the store is open for all the main shooting days/times. At the moment there are 20 key holders which the committee feels is more than adequate. Should anyone feel that they have a genuine requirement for a key to the store then they can make application to the secretary setting out their need which can then be considered at the next committee meeting. Whilst it is possible to borrow keys for the container please note that the loan of storeroom keys is not permitted. John Bell - Chairman 2

Smoking at the Club The committee have requested that those who like to smoke do so with consideration to other members and particularly the juniors. Please note there should be NO Smoking on the shooting line. Club Championships Following the success of last year s Club Champs, this year s round will again be a Windsor. Keith Billenness has sent this list of local tournaments which are within a resonable distance and would like to hear from anyone who would like to attend any of these events as a team to represent Eastbourne Archers.
