WOMEN S BASKETBALL COACHES JARED TRULEAR HEAD COACH Phone: 484-680-6079 Email: jared.trulear@wilson.edu Jared Trulear is entering his fourth season with the Phoenix. Trulear accepted the head coach position in December 2013 after spending the previous two seasons as the assistant coach for the Phoenix. He is a 2009 graduate of York College of Pennsylvania, where he majored in sport management, minored in business administration and had a concentration in athletic administration. Trulear played high school basketball at The Christian Academy in Brookhaven, Pa. where he earned several awards, including Honorable Mention All-County, several First Team All-Tournament honors, and was recognized as one of Delaware County, Pa. s best Sixth Men during his junior year and as one of the county s best rebounders while a senior. A former competitive high school player, Trulear has valuable playing experience. In addition to coaching basketball at the middle school and high school levels, he has also coached various age groups of AAU basketball for Advanced Hoops in Harrisburg, Pa since 2010. Trulear currently resides in Harrisburg, Pa. with his wife, Courtney, and their daughter, Morgan. BRANDI MIXELL ASSISTANT COACH Brandi Mixell enters her first season as assistant coach of the Wilson College women s basketball team. She is a graduate of Ball State University with a bachelor s degree in exercise science. Prior to attending Ball State, Mixell attended Frostburg State University, where she played field hockey and basketball. She then continued her collegiate athletic career at Ball State, playing field hockey for an additional two seasons. BOBBY CHRISTIAN VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH Bobby Christian enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Phoenix. He is a native of Columbus, Ohio. He played basketball in high school and went on to graduate from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Christian earned a bachelor s degree in computer information systems from Central State and a master s degree in information systems from the University Of Phoenix. He has over 10 years of coaching experience on various school levels and coached competitive teams on the AAU level. Bobby currently resides in Mechanicsburg with his wife Tamra and youngest son DeSean. They have three other children (Jay, NaTanya, Tezzaeria). PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION STATEMENT Toughness and togetherness: these two ideals will shape the Wilson Phoenix women s basketball program now and in the future. As the head coach, it is my primary responsibility to provide student-athletes the best opportunity to succeed on and off the court. I firmly believe that toughness and togetherness will prepare student-athletes on the court, in the classroom and for life after college. The toughness that drives this basketball program is a mental toughness that motivates everyone in the program to give maximum effort in any and all circumstances. The mental toughness we embrace in our program is the key to success on the court, in the classroom, and in life. As a great coach whom I admire, Tom Izzo says, Toughness is doing what it takes to make a difference. Toughness is not thinking or accepting that you have a ceiling, but that you have another step to take, another level to reach, another gear. As toughness drives our program, togetherness will carry it. Every day we will work toward our common goal: to pursue excellence in the classroom, on the court, and in life. I am a firm believer that every day is spent building habits, good or bad. In our pursuit of excellence, we will continue to accentuate good habits and eliminate the bad. Relentless pursuits of our goals on the court, in the classroom, and in life are only possible with an unbreakable support system and the unmatched family atmosphere that Wilson College Phoenix athletics provide. Being a coach is being an educator. The education I will provide my studentathletes will give them the means necessary to be successful on and off the court. Our program is built to win: to win in life, to win in the classroom, and to win on the court, in that order. Toughness and togetherness will take us there. Coach Trulear
