The American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS) (www.abps.org)the primary function of ABPS is to certify qualified podiatric surgeons. The American Board of Podiatric Surgery is recognized by the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education under the authority of the American Podiatric Medical Association as the specialty board to conduct a certification process in podiatric surgery. Prior to 1991, ABPS had a single certification track in Foot and Ankle Surgery. Since then, ABPS has had two certification tracks: one in Foot Surgery and the other in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery The Podiatry Institute (www.podiatryinstitute.com ) The Podiatry Institute is a non-profit (501c3), educational foundation whose mission is to be a supportive, global network of members, colleagues and friends, which enhances the quality of life for patients with foot, ankle and leg disorders through innovative education, research and service. The Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the official journal of the Association, is the oldest and most frequently cited peer-reviewed journal in the profession of foot and ankle medicine. Founded in 1907 and appearing 6 times per year, it publishes research studies, case reports, literature reviews, special communications, clinical correspondence, and letters to the editor, book reviews, and various other types of submissions. It also regularly carries reports and announcements from the Association. The Journal is included in major indexing and abstracting services for biomedical literature. In 1954 an independent non-profit corporation, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Inc., was established. The American and British Volumes function independently. They cooperate in matters of general policy such as finance, advertising, printing, and distribution, but they do not discuss individual papers. The methods of editing and their styles differ to some extent; their contents are totally different.
