The hospital is designed exclusively for children, offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient services under one roof, so children can receive care and treatment in one building. Appointments with physicians and clinicians in various departments throughout the hospital can be conveniently scheduled for the same day. comprehensive onsite services Care for patients at Shriners Hospital begins with an initial consultation, then establishing a diagnosis and a treatment plan. Our pediatric specialists and therapists collaborate to determine the best course of care, and referring physicians are able to get results back quickly. The comprehensive onsite services at the hospital include: outpatient visits, inpatient surgery, outpatient surgery, orthotics and prosthetics, radiology, the motion analysis laboratory (utilizing a 3D motion capture system), occupational therapy, physical therapy, child life, care coordination, family services, and nutrition. 5 treatment, education, research providing expert pediatric care On a daily basis, the medical team provides treatment for the most routine pediatric orthopaedic, rheumatology, and cleft lip and palate problems to the most rarely seen conditions. The team is comprised of board certified orthopaedic surgeons fellowship trained in pediatric orthopaedics, a pediatrician/pediatric rheumatologist, orthopaedic and plastic surgeons, and more than 80 consulting physicians and surgeons. Through outreach clinics and telemedicine, we provide care to children domestically and internationally. a commitment to education Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield maintains orthopaedic residency affiliations with Boston University School of Medicine and Albany Medical College. Education and training are also provided to graduate and undergraduate students from area colleges and universities in the fields of nursing, physical and occupational therapy, orthotics and prosthetics, movement analysis, child life, and social services. The hospital offers continuing medical education programs for area physicians and health care professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care, regardless of the families ability to pay. Generally, care is provided until age 18, although, in some cases, it may be extended to age 21. All care and services are provided in a family-centered environment.
