Small Wonder. BIG IDEAS.

MISSION College of St. Joseph is an independent Catholic college that educates men and women of varied faiths and backgrounds for lives of continuing personal and professional growth, intellectual development, and service to the community. To fulfill its mission, the College: Offers student-centered undergraduate and graduate programs guided by Christian values that blend theory and practice and prepare students for careers of vital importance to society. Offers a holistic student development program that fosters personal leadership, civic responsibility, service to the community. Employs highly qualified administrators, faculty, and staff who support the continuous improvement of the College s programs and services.

A GREAT TIME TO BE A JOE College of St. Joseph is enjoying a period of growth and expansion, both on campus and off, as the College is at record enrollment for full-time residential undergraduates. The largest incoming class in our history has filled the campus dormitories and last year led to a waiting list for students who wished to join CSJ. In the past year, the College has increased its athletics offerings by starting baseball and softball teams for the 2014-15 academic year. By next year, we will have added volleyball as an additional varsity program. CSJ s hallmark Provider Scholarship Program has been a great success. The program asks students to complete 15 hours of community service each semester, participate in a campus activity, attend college experience seminars and participate in career preparedness programs. In exchange, students receive more than $60,000 in scholarship aid over four years. In fall 2013, 70 students were awarded Provider Scholarships. By spring 2015, that number had grown to more than 170, a number that exceeded our goals.

Proctor EXPANSION

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT PROGRAM College of St. Joseph is proudly working to develop the first Physician Assistant (PA) Program in Vermont an innovative, student-centered Master of Medical Science program that will reflect community needs and focus on primary and rural care. Under the leadership of founding director Catherine Gemmiti, the program will be housed in the recently acquired properties in Proctor, Vt. The intensive 24-month graduate curriculum will award a Master of Medical Science (MMSc) upon completion. The program is committed to recruiting students from a diverse array of backgrounds, especially rural and other underserved areas. The need for PA Programs The Association of Medical Colleges predicts a shortage of 125,000 physicians nationally by the year 2025. 25 percent of Vermont s physician assistants will begin considering retirement in 2015. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 38 percent increase in PA jobs nationally between 2012-2022. CSJ Physician Assistant Program Mission Statement The mission of the College of St. Joseph Master of Medical Science Physician Assistant Studies Program is to educate competent physician assistant practitioners who are lifelong learners, with a strong foundation in primary care, spanning multiple disciplines of medicine, serving a diverse array of communities by increasing access to medical care, fostering health, humanity and quality of life.

CSJ S PROCTOR HEALTH SCIENCE FACILITY Where we are College of St. Joseph acquired two properties in Proctor, Vt. in August 2014. The buildings, affectionately known as the lab or lower building and the marble or upper building, will house both the Radiologic Sciences and Physician Assistant Programs. They were donated to the College by Omya and serve as the single-largest gift in College of St. Joseph history. Both buildings have historic importance to the town of Proctor, particularly the marble building as it was home to Vermont Marble. The company itself has a rich history: Five CEOs served as governor of Vermont, one served as a U.S. senator, and one served terms as governor and secretary of war. Where we are going Upon renovations, the Proctor facility will include MMScPAS and Radiologic Sciences program classrooms, skills lab, simulation lab, computer lab, student lounge, faculty lounge, two conference rooms, ADA compliant restrooms, lockers, shower room, anatomy lab, reception, faculty and staff offices, resource room, break out rooms, equipment and file storage space, copy center room, food service, and exercise / yoga room. The target date for completion of renovations is summer 2016. Rendering provided courtesy of Bread Loaf Architects, Planners, Builders The College expects to serve 50-100 students daily in Proctor and the facility would be home to six faculty, as well as administration and staff. These properties, along with the programs they house, have the potential to be transformative to CSJ by allowing the College to create prestigious academic programs that are high in demand. They will also play heavily into revitalization efforts in downtown Proctor, and benefit the entire state of Vermont by producing well-qualified healthcare professionals.

Disclosure: College of St. Joseph has applied for Accreditation - Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC- PA).
