LoveLocalJobs.com and its partner WON the prestigious European Award for their work on the pioneering BEACH. The Brighton Employability Advice and Careers Hut, beat still competition to scoop the Eurocities Award, taking top spot in the Smart Jobs category. Designed by young people for young people... to raise local career aspirations for young people by providing much needed inspiration, advice and pathways which will enable them to excel in the chosen career. The BEACH is incredibly helpful because it was developed by young people for young people! Esther Springett (a Brighton Course Manager) on BEACH It has helped me to write a good CV and apply for jobs with some understanding of what employers are looking for. George (a Gatwick School Leaver) The site is really helpful. There s nothing else like this for young people like me! Josh (a Brighton Apprentice) This website is a fantastic resource for young people in the Gatwick Diamond area who would like tips on getting a job and all other employment related topics. Toby Clifford (Oathall Community College) on TAKE OFF 11

what makes us so special? You do. Partnering with LoveLocalJobs.com can help make such a difference to our local community but it takes the support and advice of willing business volunteers. We need YOU to join us on a journey that s fulfilling (unlike any work commute!) acting as positive role models and mentors to help and encourage students with their career ideas! Our Be the Change program holds inspirational youth career events that are always an interactive and engaging experience for all involved... In a mixture of small breakout groups and larger inductive roles (from 1-2-1 mentoring to school and workplace tours) our volunteers shed light on the importance of individual qualities, attitudes and behaviours - as well as qualifications. Demonstrating to young people that - although not always academic they re bright & talented and with the right support, can have successful futures! It s all about the importance of employability a currency that still needs to be better recognised in today s often-tough job market. Our first Be the Change event (and the first of its kind in Sussex) took place in April 2015 for around 100 Brighton & Hove school students; held by LoveLocalJobs.com and facilitated by social enterprise, Humanutopia. It was aimed at Year 10 pupils (15 year olds) who, for one reason or another, have become disengaged with school or lack confidence in their own abilities. Issues such as bullying, poor behaviour and building inner confidence were discussed, helping the young people to value themselves and the others around them. See Be the Change in action on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/lovelocaljobs 12

What s next Be the Change will first be launched across the Coast to Capital LEP areas in Sussex and Surrey and then across the UK. It will span from one day bespoke conferences through to full programmes of activity that include sessions such as workplace visits and 1-2-1 mentoring, over the course of the school year, culminating in every student being awarded a certificate and work experience opportunity. Working in partnership with a variety of organisations in the country to build relationships between the corporate community and students, who are for one reason or another disengaged with school, the programme is designed to support young people on their life journey and open their eyes to the world of work and the possibilities it can bring. Be the Change: Builds stronger, more sustainable relationships between businesses and schools, colleges and universities Encourages increased business mentoring at schools in locally and nationally Develops the life skills and employability skills of young people Creates peer-to-peer networking opportunities for young people Connects schools, providing opportunities to share best practice in CEIAG Establishes more meaningful work experience opportunities for young people Educates young people, their parents and school teaching staff on the effective use of the employability microsites Inspires young people to think seriously about their futures and all of the opportunities available to them Enhances the employer profile of the businesses involved in the programme and improve their long term employee pipeline Inspiration 13
