3 About Perth College of Beauty Therapy Perth College of Beauty Therapy is a private college offering full time and part time courses in beauty training up to diploma level. Classes can be taken during the week, on weekends or in the evening. Perth College of Beauty Therapy is a Registered Training Organisation, training to national standards and guidelines. It is also registered and accredited with ITEC a international examining body. It is CRICOS, VET FEE-HELP and Austudy approved. Established in 1987 in Subiaco, it has been in Victoria Park since 1998. The college relocated in April 2011 to renovated purpose built premises. Victoria Park is 3km from Perth city and is served by frequent buses which run past the college. The rooms are bright, modern, air conditioned and heated throughout. As well as having traditional practical and theory classrooms, the college has dedicated fully equipped make-up and tanning training rooms. All rooms contain the latest technology for delivery of lessons with power point and electronic audio. There is WIFI throughout the college. The experienced training staff have years of teaching and industry experience and hold national Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. They bring the real world into the classroom through theory and practical training, guest speakers, clinic days, product training and industry field trips.

Students have access to the latest technologies and equipment, including a state of the art spa capsule, combining a hydrotherapy tub, vichy shower heads, wet table, steam, aromatherapy, colour light therapy and hand-held hydrojet for hydromassage, this is a multipurpose unit. We regularly update our beauty training to meet demands and changes in the industry. We have regular contact with industry professionals who provide advice of changing trends and new products and services and who are actively involved in our courses. We aim for graduates to have great service and sales skills. We teach graduates to think for themselves, plan treatment programs and solve problems. We teach students to work quickly and efficiently, whilst maintaining a relaxing environment. We organise real and simulated salon environments for our students to gain confidence and experience. We have a great relationship with beauty salons and day spas to keep training relevant and to inform students of positions in the industry. Completion of this course opens up a wealth of opportunities for the graduate. From management and business ownership to travel, advanced treatments and teaching, this course gives the grounding for a lifelong career in the beauty and spa industry. This qualification covers massage, facials, specialised facials, waxing, tinting, manicure, pedicure, make-up, business, retail, stone massage, aromatherapy, Indian head massage, tanning, reflexology, nutrition, exercise, body electrical treatments, spa treatments and much more. This course covers all aspects of beauty services and massage, taught in a part time flexible manner. Ideal for students who may want to work whilst studying of for the busy mum who wants to return to the workforce. Modules are completed one day a week either Mondays or Wednesdays, two evenings a week on Monday & Wednesday evening or on a Saturday. 16 Eyebrow Threading Threading is an ancient method of hair removal originating in the Eastern world. In more recent times it has gained popularity in Western countries. In threading, a thin cotton thread specially designed for hair removal is doubled, and then twisted. It is then rolled over areas of unwanted hair, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading can remove short lines or hair. 24 Hairstyling for Make-up Artists This course has been created by a leading hairstylist to give make-up artists hairstyling skills and techniques specifically for weddings and special occasions. What are ITEC? ITEC is an independent international examining body for specialist make-up artists. International examiners come to the college to assess students on theory and practical knowledge. On successful completion, students will have qualifications recognised worldwide. Why do we need to learn about anatomy and physiology? Being a beauty therapist requires educating clients not only about looking after themselves on the outside, but also on the inside. Good nutrition and diet is a key factor in maintaining good health and wellbeing. These factors can affect our body systems and skin, so students must understand how they function.
26 Are there any pre-requisites for your courses? There are no pre-requisites for most of our qualifications. The higher the qualification, the more services you will learn. Some of our workshops require previous knowledge, and these requirements are stated on the brochures. Our part time certificate courses are completed using a modular timetable. Students can start at any module. The only pre requisite for advanced facials (included in the Certificate IV) is students must have completed the facial module first. Our certificate courses can be upgraded at any stage by adding additional modules. How do the students gain experience before entering the workforce? The general public are able to book treatments with our students here at the college on set client days within the students course. Students will perform a number of hours during their course giving them valuable hands on experience. Students can find their own work experience placement, and often gain employment once completing their course. I want to work from home or set up a mobile beauty business, is there a course for me? Yes, we have the perfect course for this. The Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy includes all the most popular beauty treatments. On completion of a module you are qualified in that area and can be working from home instantly. Other great treatments to offer at home are Spray Tanning and Eyelash Extensions. Both these courses have the option to purchase professional kits to start your business. What products will I be training with? At Perth college of Beauty Therapy we use only products that are leaders in the beauty and spa industry.
