2015-2016 School Year Dear Prospective Dental Hygiene Applicant, Thank you f your inquiry regarding the Taft College Dental Hygiene Program. Enclosed you will find infmation about the program that will assist you in making your decisions regarding Dental Hygiene as a career. Enclosed you will find: 1. Prerequisites Students must have all prerequisites completed in der to be eligible to apply f the Fall 2016 class. In-progress wk will not be accepted. Only completed science coursewk dated 2010 later will meet the five (5) year recency requirement. 2. Selection Criteria 3. Dental Hygiene Associate Degree s 4. PREREQUISITES AND SELECTION CRITERIA FOR FALL 2016 PROGRAM APPLICANTS Taft College accepts 20 qualified students into its Dental Hygiene Program each fall semester. There are minimum admission requirements that all applicants must meet in der to be considered f acceptance into the program. The application period f the Fall 2016 class is January 1, 2016 through March 31, 2016. Prerequisites must be completed pri to applying to the program. 1. Applicants must earn a minimum grade of "C" in each of the following prerequisite courses: Please Note: Applicants must earn a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the prerequisite courses. Human Anatomy Basic Nutrition Organic Chemistry and Lab General Microbiology Human Physiology and Lab English Composition and Reading - 3 units - 3 units All completed prerequisites science courses must be completed by 2010 later in der to meet the five (5) year recency requirement. A two-semester combination Anatomy and Physiology course may be subsituted f the Anatomy and Physiology requirement. A one-semester survey course is not acceptable. The following courses are cequisites to the program and may be completed either pri to entering the program after the applicant is admitted to the program. Co-requisite Course General Psychology (3 units) Sociology Introduction to Sociology (3 units) Sociology Minity Group Relations (3 units) Speech Group Discussion (3 units) Speech Public Speaking (3 units) 2. Applicants must hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 in all college coursewk. 2

Selection criteria to be applied to applicants who have met the minimum standards listed on the preceding page: There is a cumulative total of 250 points possible in the following categies: GPA in prerequisite coursewk cumulative GPA in all college coursewk number of units completed at Taft College progress towards the completion of general education requirements f an Associate Degree attainment of a college degree related wk experience quality of the applicant's personal statement letters of recommendation Contact the Counseling Center at (661)763-7748 f further infmation. DENTAL HYGIENE ASSOCIATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS CHECKLIST FOR FALL 2016 PROGRAM APPLICANTS Program Prerequisites: All prerequisites to the program must be completed with a minimum grade of C. In addition, all science courses (Anatomy, Biology, Organic Chemistry, Microbiology, Nutrition, and Physiology) must be completed within the past five (5) years in der to meet the recency requirement. Note: The following Associate Degree requirements are met based upon completion of Dental Hygiene Program s: Maj, Natural Science, Social and Behavial Science, English Composition, and Communication and Analytical Thinking. Coursewk completed at another institution must be equivalent to courses offered at Taft College. A Taft College advis the Academic Policies and Procedures Committee will determine equivalency. 5

FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM In der to be eligible f federal aid, students are required to enroll in a course of study leading to a degree a certificate and maintain satisfacty academic progress.
