Lewis Frasier Middle School Parent Involvement Policy 2015-2016 School Year Stephanie Clark, Title I Director Jermaine Williams, Principal Kevin VanHouten, Asst. Principal Lavanda Spencer, Parent Involvement 910 Long Frasier Rd. Hinesville, GA 31313 (912) 877-5367 www.liberty.k12.ga.us/lfms/ Plan revised July 28, 2015 WHAT IS TITLE 1? Lewis Frasier Middle School is identified as a Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement. All Title I schools must develop jointly with all parents, a written parent involvement policy. Our goal is that students attain the knowledge that will allow them to meet or exceed the standards on the GMAS and send them to the next level ready for a challenge. SCHOOL PLAN FOR SHARED STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT What is it? The Parent Involvement Policy is a plan that describes how Lewis Frasier Middle School will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. Lewis Frasier Middle School values the contributions and involvement of parents in order to establish an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student achievement. This plan describes the different ways that Lewis Frasier Middle School will support parent engagement and how parents can help plan and participate in activities and events to promote student learning at school and at home. How is it developed? Lewis Frasier Middle School welcomes parental input and comments at any time regarding this plan. All parent feedback will be considered during revisions of the plan for the following year. The plan is posted on the school website so that parents have continuous access to it. At different times during the school year, surveys are distributed asking parents for their suggestions on how to revise the plan and for the use of Title 1 funds for parent involvement. Parent feedback is also requested during various parent meetings. Who is it for? Lewis Frasier Middle School is a school-wide Title I School so all students are eligible to participate in the Title I, Part A program. All students and their families including families of limited English and families with student disabilities are encouraged to fully participate in the opportunities described in this plan. The school will attempt to provide necessary accommodations to allow for opportunities for participation of all families. Where is it available? Lewis Frasier Middle School actively seeks to make the Parent Involvement Plan readily available to all students and families throughout the school year. The Parent Involvement Plan is posted on the school s website that makes it always available. At the beginning of the school year, the plan along with the student compact is included in the materials given to students. The plan is available during each scheduled Open House, during parent meetings and provided upon request.

The compacts are reviewed and updated annually based on feedback from parents, students, and teachers during the school year. Parents and teachers will be invited to attend scheduled meetings at the end of the school year to offer suggestions for revisions to the schoolparent compact for the upcoming school year. Let s Get Together! This ensures: That parents play an integral role in assisting their child s learning. That parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child s education at school. That parents are full partners in their child s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child. The fidelity of other activities as described in this plan. Parent Involvement School Goals Lewis Frasier Middle School will take the following measures to promote and support parents as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals: Ensure that all information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities is published in both English and Spanish, is posted on the school website, and is included in the weekly teacher-parent email. Provide periodic trainings for all staff during their planning periods on strategies to improve communication with parents, to provide ideas to increase family engagement, and to educate staff on the importance of parental involvement. Staff will also share best practices during regularly scheduled professional learning communities. Share information in English and Spanish on the school website and teacherparent emails to help parents understand the school s academic standards and assessments as well as the ways parents can monitor their child s progress and work with educators. Communicate with all families and the community on a regular basis regarding school-wide events and relevant trainings, through One-Call phone messages, teacher-parent emails, and flyers. Provide necessary materials and handouts for parents at conferences, meetings, and activities to help parent s work with their child to improve their child s achievement. Use our Parent Facilitator to improve awareness of the activities and events listed in the school parental involvement policy. Offer literacy and computer assistance for parents to help enhance their knowledge in support of student achievement. Collect feedback from parents at all events, post suggestion forms in the lobby area of the school and on the school website in order to respond to parents requests for additional support.
