2 Patrick County Public Schools: Parent Involvement Plan I. Parenting Goal: Help all families establish home environment to support children as students. Objectives Strategies Evidence of Implementation Timeline -Information concerning home -Newsletters conditions that support learning will be -Radio announcements/news included in school newsletters, info releases, articles. what s Cool sent to local radio station, parent in School and Community webpage for each school website Conversation programs A. Provide suggestions for home conditions that support learning at each grade level (i.e. balance in time on chores, activities, homework) B. Parent educational information will be made available (i.e. GED classes, college classes, school transition, child development) -Information concerning GED classes or other educational opportunities will be made available -information for families posted and shared at the Workforce Development Center -Website/paper copy -Flyers, newsletters, radio announcements, night sessions in various sections of the county, school websites -Outside/display sign for all schools -Have staff handout materials/resources to carriders -Guidance programs and materials distributed -Beginning at registration day on July Continue each semester throughout the school year -September Fall and Spring family sessions -Continually update throughout the school year II. Communicating Goal: To inform parents/communities about school programs and student progress A. Provide parents with newsletters, handbooks, and other materials that include opportunities for parents to be aware and respond to school information B. Schedule and communicate to parents -Distribute monthly school newsletters and bi-yearly division newsletter to parents and community members/partners -Home & School Connection flyers distributed -Handbooks printed for each child -Schedule conferences and include on district calendar, school notices, district -Newsletters (distributed and posted on school website) -Information sent to media -Facebook posts -Handbooks distributed and posted -Conferences scheduled & held at each school -Registration day (July 2015) -Flyers distributed at least 4 times per year -Weekly website posts and radio spots -Monthly school newsletters -August 2015

Utilize school & division website to share information and programs website, parent , Facebook, (special notes go home to students in Title I program) -Keep website updated both at district and school level -Parent links included -Extend the information on the parent webpage for each school website -Back to School Night -Sign in sheets -Keep website updated both at district and school level -Daily announcements and homework posting -Monthly updates -October March Daily announcements -Monthly calendars -Calendars updated with upcoming school events -Family survey posted and distributed by paper requested for needs assessment -Survey results shared with administrative staff and needs addressed D. Provide staff development for administrators and coordinators on ways to involve families in their child s education -Provide sessions as determined by the Coordinator of Staff Development -Roster of participants -September 2015 III. Volunteering Goal: To engage parents and community members in school activities/programs -Provide opportunities such as assisting -Provide sign-up sheets -August meetings in the classroom, tutoring, and other quarterly, PTO meetings, school-specific opportunities conferences A. Encourage parents and the community to be involved at school -Provide working parents options to volunteer with at-home projects (cutting, creating flash cards, etc.) -At home options for families to help and send back to school -December 2015 and May Quarterly have teachers send home volunteer interest forms (March) -Specific time/date reminder given to parents at least 2 week notice B. Provide volunteer training -Volunteer procedures booklet is given -Provide contract in addition to -August and September 2015 for volunteers and staff to to volunteers and is reviewed during handbook after group or review school procedures training or if volunteer is unable to individual training and protocol attend training one-on-one can be scheduled C. Effectively use and manage -Establish a volunteer coordinator in -List of coordinators and -September, 2015

Learning at Home Goal: To provide assistance to parents to accept and become the educator at home -Develop kits for grades K-7 and -Learning kits created -Each Semester distribute by the end of first semester A. Provide parents with kits that contain simple learning games, materials, and activities that can be used throughout the school year as well as summer -Strategies listed on school website, ensure parents are aware of the resources listed under Dynamic Explorations on the Division webpage B. Provide family nights to expose parents to the curriculum for specific grade levels and to provide suggestions to parents to help them reinforce shills related to SOL testing -Designate family nights for school specific needs (reading, math, homework help, SOL parent strategies internet safety)- -Refreshments & child care provided during family nights by school with cost reimbursed by federal program at the division level -Sign in sheets at all school functions -Quarterly -Coordinate with other school functions if possible C. Provide information to parents and high school students about post-high school education -Train parents on how to use resources including quick reference on how to use parent portal, if needed -Info is provided on trade school, college prep, and secondary school including inviting college representatives from colleges -Info available in newsletters and on websites -Semester meetings -Guidance sessions Spring 2016

Decision Making Goal: To provide parents participation in decision-making at the individual, school and district levels -PTO s, Title I, Parent Advisory -Meetings held and information -Monthly Committees at elementary and shared secondary level committees will continue to meet -Input documented and shared A. Continue to support elementary PTO and secondary parent advisory committee B. Continue to provide district level advisory councils and committees -Ensure that parents are represented on district-level councils and committees -Committee meetings -Agenda and notes -Yearly meetings
