Current position: Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Milan. He graduated in Biology (BSc) in 1989 at the University of Milan. In 1994 he achieved his PhD in Human Physiology. From 1995 to 1997 he awarded a post-doctoral fellowship whose research activity was focused on the physiopathology of interstitial tissues. From 1999 to 2002 he won a research fellowship for a study titled physiopathology of periodontal and peri-implant tissues. In 2002 he became Academic Researcher for the discipline: oral diseases for the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Milan. From 2002 he is head of section of Oral Physiology in the Department of Health Technologies (Director: Prof. R. Weinstein) in Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute of Milan. From 2003 he is a member of the faculty board of the PhD program in Oral Implantology and Implantprosthesis and afterwards also of the PhD School in Physiopathological, Neuropsychobiological sciences and life-cycle care; both of them at the University of Milan. From 2005 he is a member of the SICOI National Commission Guidelines (Italian Society of Oral Surgery and Implantology) for the guidelines definition regarding: maxillary sinus elevation procedures and alternative therapies and osteonecrosis of the jaws in patients under bisphosphonate treatment: prevalence, causes and guidelines for the clinical approach of this complication. From 2005 he is a reviewer of the Cochrane Collaboration (Cochrane Oral Health Group, Manchester) where his primary activity is to conduct and coordinate Cochrane systematic reviews in the field of Dentistry. From 2005 and 2007 he was a member of the Scientific Board and Chief Scientific Officer Assistant of the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute. In 2008 he participated at the Working Group for the definition of the guidelines for Quality in Scientific Research, in Verona, supported by the Italian Society of Osseointegrated Implantology. From 2008 to date he is member of the Scientific Board of the Research Centre for Oral Implantology, University of Milan (Director: Prof. L. Francetti) From 2008 to 2011 he is member of the Scientific Board and, from May 16, 2011 to date he is Director of the Research Centre for Oral Health, University of Milan. From 2011 he is a member of CiMaINa (Interdisciplinary Centre of Nanostructured Materials and Interfaces. Director: Prof. P. Milani) Since 2011 he is project reviewer for the MIUR (Italian Ministry of University and Research). Since 2012-2013 he is member of the faculty board of the PhD in Oral Sciences of the Università degli Studi di Milano Since March 1, 2015 he is Associate Professor in Dentistry at the Università degli Studi di Milano Research activity Main research field: interstitial tissue physiology and fluid exchange in the microcirculation, interstitial edema physiopathogenesis, periodontal and peri-implant tissues pathophysiology, evaluation of the effectiveness of surgical techniques through systematic reviews and meta-analysis, biology of the osseointegration, biochemistry and sport hematology, of bone regeneration techniques and tissue engineering in particular combined with platelet concentrates.
He is responsible for the study design, data management, statistical analysis and data interpretation and of the reporting of a great number of clinical studies in the field of Dentistry.
