Unable to Connect? If you experience connectivity problems, try this: Open Edit / User Preferences Check the option to Detect Internet Explorer proxy settings on the network tab Quit and restart School IT policies may be causing connection issues. Tell your IT staff to: Allow software to access lumapix.com and amazonaws.com Open port 80, port 21, and port 443 Enable Binary transfer Soap headers should not be filtered A network diagnostic tool is available in the software, under the Help Menu > Support > Run connection diagnostics. SECTION 3: Managing your Yearbook The key to a successful project is organization of your team members and your photos. A yearbook can be created by a single individual on one computer or by a group of people working from various locations. You can choose to keep everything in a single chapter, or break the books into several chapters. The database used for panels must exist in only one chapter to avoid data conflicts. See Section 8 when ready to merge chapters to main yearbook. Unlike most other graphic design software s FotoFusion does not embed your images directly into your project. When you drop an image into a FotoFusion canvas, you are looking at an enhanced thumbnail version of your image, which is linked to the original image file. FotoFusion works in this way to allow thousands of images to be used in a single project without your computer running out of memory. The Yearbook Desk and Wall Ladder provided in your Yearbook Kit and Resource CD can help you plan your school yearbook. Each row (Page 2---Page 3) represents a yearbook spread. pg. 2 of 7
SECTION 4: Opening Yearbook File Close the Start Here screen. FILE>ARCHIVE/RESTORE > RESTORE Navigate to the Yearbook Data CD sent by Edge Imaging. File is named.scrappackage file This will open up the pre-built panels and all the images requested. SECTION 5: Organizing Data The Organize screen is where you can view, sort, and categorize your images and for users to manage the PSPA database images. The School Tab allows you to view and edit information in the database. Missing Information: Images missing information will be placed into a Bucket. To edit a subject s information, select the subject. The Properties bar on the right side will display the data associated. To add the missing information, simply type in the appropriate empty box. You do not need to hit Enter or Apply; the information is added immediately. Staff and Teachers: Select all staff and click on the Make into box over the preview area and choose the appropriate title for the selected staff (ex. Teacher, Support Staff or Administration). Teacher s homerooms maybe defaulted to say Staff this needs to be changed to their correct homeroom number. Any changes made in the database will apply to the project. If panels are built, the subjects will be transferred automatically to the correct panel page. pg. 3 of 7
SECTION 6: Panels The Create Tab is FotoFusion s main workspace; this is where all your editing work will be done. To create panel pages, select the Yearbook grid image at the top of the screen. At the top of the Panel Editor, you'll see the Mode control. Auto is the default. Frames are flowed regularly across the page Manual allows to move and adjust individual image frames Locked freezes the panel from further reflows or changes Apply settings... You can limit the scope for changes: to all panels in the project. If you change an attribute (eg. the frame border width and color), all frames in all panels will have these attributes applied to them. to the current set of groups. If you change an attribute (eg. the frame border width and color), only the frames in the current panel will have these new attributes. to only one group. If the panel has been grouped (eg. by grade, by teacher), you can pick ONE group to apply new attributes to. For instance, you can change the frame border color for only the members of the graduating class. PANEL POPULATION The first icon allows you to configure the way your panel is populated. Choose SHOW ALL, your panel will include every person in the database. Choose SHOW ONLY to pick only particular members of the database, using the drop box options listed below. eg. Show Only > Grade 6 will create a panel set that only contains members of your database in Grade 6. The images are currently sorted alphabetically. To sort by Homeroom or Grade navigate to the Grouping/Sorting Tab, select the method you would like the data to group by from the drop down menu. To include teachers images with their homeroom sort by teacher. pg. 4 of 7
CUSTOMIZING YOUR PANEL S APPEARANCE The second set of icons allows you to change the way the panel looks overall. You can... reconfigure the way the grid of image frames appears by choosing the panel section of the icon: change the panel label text by choosing the label portion of the icon: or change the panel title bar options by choosing the header option: CUSTOMIZING PANEL FRAMES Click on the Frame Border portion of the icon to access border thickness, color, gradient, and matting options. Knockouts: When Autoknockout is turned on, images dropped on top of the panel will cause the panel to get out of the way. The panel frames will flow around the new images. BLEED/SAFE AREAS Meaningful content should always be inside the green safe lines. Never put important content near or beyond the red bleed lines - it will be trimmed off during printing. pg. 5 of 7
SECTION 7: Images Adding Images: 1. IMAGE hover: Navigate to your image folder, here you can drag and drop onto your panel. 2. 2ND PSPA CD: FILE > IMPORT PSPA CD > Navigate to the INDEX.txt file on Photo Data CD from Edge Imaging Delimiter (set to TAB) / Duplicates (select Append to Existing Database ) click Import. New Images will be added under the Organize Tab. SECTION 8: Saving / Finalizing / Submission SAVING FILE>SAVE>LOCALLY Images are not attached or embedded into the project but linked to the project. FotoFusion will trace the images dropped into the project back to their original location, and the project needs to find the images in exactly the same location or it will report those images as missing. FILE>ARCHIVE/RESTORE> ARCHIVE Archive creates a file called.scrap package file, which contains all the source images. This is essential when transferring sections of the yearbook to be included in the master project and when submitting the final copy of the yearbook. FINALIZING 1. ASSEMBLING YOUR BOOK The project manager is usually the person who will control the final assembled project. The master project will contain the panel pages and the database that allows the panel images to be organized and labeled. Only ONE project can contain the panel pages and the database, as two projects each with a database cannot be merged. To add small projects to the master project, all files must be archived or all images and files must be stored locally. Archived files from other computers or devices need to be restored and saved on the Master Projects computer before merging project pages. FILE>ARCHIVE/RESTORE>RESTORE Once the yearbook manager has access to all the component projects available, then the master project should be opened (FILE > OPEN). Again, this is the project that contains the panel pages and the database. pg. 6 of 7
Use the Insert Project option on the Pages hover to add the individual projects, one at a time, into the Master Project. After the pages are added into the project, they can be moved up and down the project (and inbetween the panel pages) by means of the arrow keys. Note: Candid pages can be moved in-between panel pages, but not vice-versa. 2. THINGS TO CHECK Are all Students & Teachers present and correctly labeled? Do you see warning signs on images? (These mean that the image s resolution is insufficient) Are pages dispalyed in the correct order? Any missing images? 3. PROOFING YOU BOOK Please print out your yearbook pages on 8.5x11 paper. Review yearbook pages and ensure that there are no errors. SUBMISSION PLEASE SUBMIT ARTWORK WITH SUBMISSION FORM Artwork must be sent with a submission form approved by your school yearbook advisor before any printing occurs.
