2014 ANNUAL REPORT GROW CONNECT SERVE SHARE
PHILIPPIANS 1:4-6 IN ALL MY PRAYERS FOR ALL OF YOU, I ALWAYS PRAY WITH JOY BECAUSE OF YOUR PARTNERSHIP IN THE GOSPEL FROM THE FIRST DAY UNTIL NOW, BEING CONFIDENT OF THIS, THAT HE WHO BEGAN A GOOD WORK IN YOU WILL CARRY IT ON TO COMPLETION UNTIL THE DAY OF CHRIST JESUS. Every year, our annual report reminds me of when the Israelites entered the Promised Land. As they went, God had Joshua lead the people from one side of the Jordan River to the other. When the Levites and Joshua stepped into the river, the water stopped, and the Israelites crossed the riverbed onto dry ground. They paused in the midst of the miracle and set stones in their camp to mark the faithfulness of God as Joshua said, "These stones shall be a memorial to the children of Israel forever" (Joshua 4:7). This annual report is our stone monument to all God did in 2014. Last year, God did so many incredible things in and through the people of Des Moines First. 114 professions of faith in Christ 14 followed Christ in water baptism $256,104 dollars given to 378 missionaries in 100 countries $66,720 dollars given to 19 local ministries $338,631 given for special projects and designated missions giving in the U.S. and around the world 32 registrations for First Steps luncheons 7,195 hours invested sharing God s love in our community 516 volunteers serving 40 Connect Group leaders equipped and 246 people connecting in groups Please understand, we don't list these things to pat ourselves on the back. Every number has a name and every name has a story. We count our blessings for the same reason the Israelites set stones in their camp: to remember what God did and increase our faith for what He will do in the future. As I look back on 2014 at Des Moines, I'm grateful for the ways God has been active among us. We started out the year by pursuing a journey of Biblical faith. The sermon series Some Assembly Required helped us ask the question, "How Can You Tell if You Have Faith? I am so proud of you. You have displayed confident obedience to God's direction for your lives and for our church. Even when circumstances might have seemed impossible, you allowed God s transforming love into the core of who you are. You trusted and believed Him to do what is right and what is best. We never want to forget that the vision of Des Moines First becomes a reality as people are being loved and led to a whole-hearted relationship with Christ. Growing, connecting, serving and sharing. It gives us the faith to move forward when people are growing, connecting, serving and sharing! As we pursue God's vision and build His kingdom in 2015, let's look back and be encouraged as we praise Him for all He has done and all He is beginning. Gratefully, Dave Beroth, Lead Pastor

ENDOWMENT FUND No matter how much planning you do, it is hard to anticipate all it will take for future generations to become healthy followers of Christ. While we cannot plan for all situations, we can plan to make resources available for the unique and emerging future needs. Imagine the value of having funds available to: Help create a self-sustaining business in a poverty-stricken community. Give children a chance to hear about God s hope and love for the first time. Give young men a chance to overcome addictions in a Christ-centered way. Those funds exist today! Established in 2003, the First Assembly of God Endowment Fund enables us to partner with other Christian faith-based organizations to impact our community, central Iowa and around the world. An endowment is a permanent fund that earns interest that can be used to fund needs without drawing from the principal. The larger the investment in the principal, the greater the interest available to grant to worthy causes. Earnings from well-managed investments provide us flexibility to spring into action when needs arise. Contributions can be made at any time and in any amount accompanied by an appropriate tax advantage. These contributions include: Naming the Fund as a beneficiary in a Will. Contributing through a life income structure, such as a Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity. Naming the Fund as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or assigning ownership of a life insurance policy. Naming the Fund as a beneficiary of an IRA or retirement plan account. Writing a check to The Endowment Fund of First Assembly of God. To make a donation or ask how you can make a difference for future generations through the Endowment Fund, contact Jeff Ostrander, Chief Operating Officer, at 515-279-9766 or jostrander@desmoinesfirst.org. 10
