The Professional Accountant Page 4 The MBA in Professional Accounting Program Over 50 years ago, Rutgers Business school Professor William Von Minden decided that careers in the accounting profession should be open to those with backgrounds in the Arts and Sciences. Professor Von Minden s dream was realized by the creation of the Professional accounting Program. The Rutgers Business School at Newark and current PAMBA director, Prof. A.J. Sannella The MBA in Professional Accounting Program is specifically designed to train graduates holding degrees in the Arts and Sciences for careers in accounting. The first of its kind in the whole world, this 14 month program integrates management skills with accounting theory and practice. Our program focuses on developing ethical business leaders who are ready to face the challenges of a dynamic global economy. This 65 credit degree includes course work, teamwork, computer work, case studies, and final team projects. A degree in accounting can lead to careers in public accounting, private industry, government, education, self-employment, not-for-profit organizations and corporate consulting. We place about 90% of our graduates with average starting salaries of about $60,000. Part of the program includes an internship opportunity with any number of accounting firms during the months of January and February, where the students acquire invaluable exposure to auditing work.

Vasarhelyi is KPMG Professor of Accounting Information Systems, Graduate School of Management, Rutgers University; and Technology Consultant, at E-Commerce Solutions Group AT&T Laboratories. He has his BS degrees from the State University of Guanabara (Economics) and Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (Electrical Engineering), his MBA from M.I.T. in Management, and his PhD from the University of California. Los Angeles (Management Information Systems). Prof. Vasarhelyi s current research interests deal with the area of continuous auditing and monitoring, electronization of business, and agents in electronic commerce. He is the director of the Rutgers Accounting Research Center and of the Continuous Audit and reporting Lab (CARLAB) here at Rutgers Business School.
