What should I be doing now? Finalize college list and decide about ED/EA applications o Make sure college list and how you are applying (ED/EA/Regular, etc) is accurate and updated in Naviance o Your list should include 8-10 schools. Finalize your standardized test plan and send your scores directly to the colleges Meet with a college counselor to review list & essay draft Attend College Counseling class o Get organized and ask questions. Check your Portledge email regularly Complete your Common Application

The College Counseling Class Class 1 (week September 21): Getting Organized Class 2 (week October 5): Common Application and Extracurricular Activities Review Class 3 (week October 12): Personal Statement Class 4 (week October 19): Supplemental Essays Class 5 (week October 26): College Application Completion Check List IF STUDENTS HAVE A FINAL COLLEGE LIST IN NAVIANCE; HAVE COMPLETED THE COMMON APPLICATION, INCLUDING THE PERSONAL STATEMENT; AND HAVE SUBMITTED STANDARDIZED TESTING TO ALL COLLEGES THEY NO LONGER NEED TO ATTEND COLLEGE COUNSELING CLASS AFTER OCTOBER 26 th.

The Common Application

The Personal Statement Students should have completed a first draft and be aware of all supplemental writing The essay gives each applicant an opportunity to speak directly to the admissions officers about something important to him/her in his/her own voice. There is less time than you think before the deadlines. Make a plan for completion and stick to it!

Naviance

Naviance Access for Parents You should have received a card with an access code on it at Junior College Night, last spring If you have misplaced your card or have any problems accessing your account, please contact our office for assistance.

October Dates and Deadlines October 16 : Students applying under early programs with November deadlines must notify the college counselors and update Naviance to guarantee that credentials are sent on time Send official test scores to ED/EA and Rolling schools Applications are not complete without official scores sent directly from College Board or ACT. CSS financial aid PROFILE form usually available in mid-october ED/EA and Rolling applications should be submitted in advance of the November 1st deadline

November Dates and Deadlines November 13: Students applying under early programs with December deadlines must notify the college counselors and update Naviance to guarantee that credentials are sent on time Begin preparing FAFSA and CSS Profiles based on 2014 tax returns. The FAFSA should be ready to submit on January 1 st. The CSS Profile should be submitted by January 1 st at the latest. University of California applications due November 30 th. SUNY applications should be submitted by December 1 st.

December Dates & Deadlines December 11: Students must confirm their final college list with a college counselor (and then update it in both Naviance and the Common Application) to guarantee that all credentials are sent for January 1 st deadlines. Submit official test scores to ALL colleges at this time. Do not forget this important step! ***Portledge closes for Winter Break on December 18 th ; students must have everything completed and Naviance lists 100% finalized by this date.

2016 Dates and Deadlines January 1 st - The FAFSA should be ready to submit January 1 st -The CSS Profile should be submitted by January 1 st at the latest. March 15 th - Regular Decision notification period begins.
