Artist Submission 2016 Art on the Mall Process for Application and Jury In 2015, the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo (ACGK) became the host organization for Art on the Mall (AOTM). We are very excited to work with you on this long-standing Kalamazoo event and know it will be another successful year! The 35 th Annual AOTM is scheduled for June 3-4, 2016 in downtown Kalamazoo. AOTM is fine arts and fine crafts show that requires a soft-jury process for acceptance. The fee for participation for this two-day event is $100. AOTM is part of a weekend filled with five major events attracting upwards of 120,000 to downtown Kalamazoo for the weekend Art Hop, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair, Greek Fest and the Do Dah Parade. Additional weekend events include Kalamazoo Public Library Book Sale and a Sunday Concert in the Park. SOFT JURY Artist Submission Information Art on the Mall is a soft-juried show. All new artist applicants are required to submit a written explanation of their work along with three (3) jpeg files (300 dpi image), slides, or photographs representative of the present work. It is recommended that one of the submissions is a picture of the booth or display. There is no extra charge for the jury process. Artist Application Timelines: First Round Artist application (including support materials) by April 20, with notification of acceptance provided by April 30. Second Round Artist application (including support materials) by April 30 with notification of acceptance provided by May 2. Please note that in this second round, availability of booths will be limited. Email submission is preferred. Please email completed application to aotm@kalamazooarts.org and in the subject line write 2016 AOTM Application. To confirm email delivery please send your application with a Request a Delivery Receipt. You will be notified by email of your acceptance status. Pictures or slides mailed will not be returned. If accepted, the artist will be required to submit payment by May 5 for the first round and May 11 for the second round. ART FORMS All work exhibited must be original, the same as represented in the jury application, and must be created solely by the registered artist. The ACGK reserves the right to direct removal of any inappropriate or non-original work. If non-original work is included in the booth, the ACGK reserves the right to close the booth from any further sales. Under no conditions are buy-sell items allowed in the show. Mass production of items will be closely scrutinized to retain the originality of our artists work.

The exact locations have not been determined at this time. Booth placement is at the discretion of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo Art on the Mall Booth Map provides an overview of the space locations. Each booth is a 12 x 12 space and artists are required to fit within that space including their tent and displays. Artists are responsible for bringing all their equipment and support materials to secure their equipment. Please note that these areas may be windy and appropriately securing equipment and displays is critical. ACGK has the right to excuse any artist that does not reflect the integrity of their application and the rules of this show. The artistic quality of the show is the first priority and everyone will benefit from a commitment to providing show attendees with a great array of fine art and fine crafts. For items that are reproduced in any quantity, authenticity of originality might be requested by the jury committee. Artists will be assigned a motor-vehicle set-up time slot for setup based on location. Artists that cannot report to unload during these times will need to hand-cart their supplies. Detailed set-up instructions will be included in the artist confirmation packet. Artists must notify show organizers if confirmations, 2

acknowledgements, or information packets are not received. Due to the logistical changes of this event and road construction, booth placement may be altered or changed at the discretion of ACGK and upon the request of the City of Kalamazoo. Booth maps will be available to attendees at Art on the Mall with final booth/artist placement. DISPLAY AREA Vendors receive a 12 by 12 area. One artist per booth space, unless approved by the show organizers. Art on the Mall display area includes three major street areas. To MapQuest the area, please use 157 S. Kalamazoo Mall (49007) as the address. A booth map is included in this packet. Downtown is known to be windy and artists should take necessary precautions to secure displays. It is recommended that the artists use commercial grade weights. ASSIGNMENT Space assignments are made according to previous year(s) participation and/or the discretion of the ACGK. Returning artists have first right of refusal. Requests can be made but actual assignments will be made at the discretion of ACGK. Please note that every effort will be made to improve the integrity of the event and distribute artist mediums in order to minimize the concentration of one medium. Final confirmation packets will be sent via email by May 4 for the First Round and May 8 for the Second Round. Artists will receive a set-up time based on their assigned booth. It is important that artists follow assigned time frame to ensure that booth sections are set-up in a timely and efficient manner. Artists who arrive before or after their assigned time and are not impeding other set-ups may hand cart in their booth supplies. PARKING Booth fees include one parking pass for each day. ELECTRONIC IMAGES Upon acceptance, artists are asked to submit a new electronic file (300 dpi) for Art on the Mall s official Facebook page, and for the ACGK website, kalamazooarts.org CANCELATION The fee as outlined above is based on a non-refundable charge per artist, per booth space. No sales commission is charged. No refunds will be given. 3
