Purpose Purpose of the presentation is to review current issues (SILs, TNLs, etc.) on existing Honeywell Flight Management Systems. These issues are not common and are not found on all aircraft platforms but are presented to promote awareness through communication. All information provided is already published and can be accessed through www.honeywell.com/aero/alert. Questions on specific aircraft platforms can be addressed by contacting the OEM approved service center, an OEM field service engineer or Honeywell Customer & Product Support Manager or Field Service Engineer.

Agenda Significant FMS issues Automatic Chart Linking Inoperative FMS turns when no overfly requirement exists Summary of new removal Issues Honeywell SIL D201011000003 (Rev 9) Direct Leg Early Sequencing Item J Course to Fix Flight Plan Legs - Item K Honeywell SIL D201212000036 Wrong Turn Due to Incorrect Leg Sequencing How to locate removed procedures New issues since Q2-2012

EPIC INDS Automatic Chart Linking Issue Operator and Flight Safety both reported that when they load an approach on the FMS, the Charts function was not automatically loaded with the approach and the chart had to be selected manually Background Affects all EPIC INDS certifications that utilize the charts function Issue is an oversize file on the navigation database Approach charts are still available Currently only observed on aircraft where the RNP-AR database is used as well as PC-12 operators that utilize the world wide database Resolution Database mitigation will take place to reduce the suspect file size Will prevent chart linking for shorter runways Will allow approximately 90% of the approaches to be linked In place by Q2-2013

FMS Turns Resulting in Altitude Violations Issue FMZ-2000 operator flying a non-vnav equipped aircraft reported that while flying a terminal area procedure, the FMS sequenced a waypoint 2NM prior to reaching the waypoint, then turned to the next waypoint, resulting in the altitude restriction not being met at the first waypoint Background In the illustration to the right, aircraft is flying B from A to B to C B does not have an overfly bit so the FMS turns prior to B to proceed to C (blue line) May result in a turn 20NM prior to B depending on the groundspeed and bank factor Although the waypoint may be laterally A sequenced, it will not vertically sequence until the FMS is abeam of the waypoint (red line) Resolution Flight crews of non-vnav aircraft are encouraged to monitor their altitude and vertical profile as required to ensure the restrictions are met C

Procedure Removals SIL D201011000003 Reference SIL for specific aircraft affected Can be downloaded from www.honeywell.com/aero/alert (no login required. Dated 14 Sept 2012 (Rev 9) 2787 procedures removed from navigation database as of 2013 Cycle 01 to mitigate high risk issues List of procedures impacted can be downloaded at: www.honeywellaes.com www.epicinds.com

Direct Leg Early Sequencing SIL D201011000003 Item J All NZ-2000 software Including all IC-615/800/1080 FMS platforms All Primus Epic except: AW139 Lower airspeed does not exhibit issue Found July 2012 FMS could turn in a direction opposite of the published chart

Direct Leg Early Sequencing (cont.) Examples: Green arrows indicate expected behavior Red line indicates actual FMS path Direct-to-fix (DF) leg too small for FMS to compute solution, FMS sequences immediately and drops the turn bit, resulting in navigation to the next waypoint Turn calculation may result in a turn opposite than expected

Course to Fix Flight Plan Legs SIL D201011000003 Item K All NZ-2000 software Including all IC-615/800/1080 FMS platforms All Primus Epic except: AW139 Lower airspeed does not exhibit issue Found July 2012 FMS could turn early in a direction opposite of the published chart

Course to Fix Flight Plan Legs (cont.) Examples: Green arrows indicate expected behavior Red line indicates actual FMS path As the FMS sequences LAPRA (due to turn initiation), ABBOT is sequenced immediately, and the FMS follows the Course-to-Fix (CF) that represents the start of the hold and then the next CF leg to complete the pattern Results in an unexpected 360 degree turn

Wrong Turn Due to Incorrect Leg Sequencing SIL D201212000036 All NZ-2000 software Including all IC-615/800/1080 FMS platforms All Primus Epic except: AW139 Lower airspeed does not exhibit issue Reported to Honeywell August 2012 FMS could turn in a direction opposite of the published chart while on a departure or missed approach

Wrong Turn Due to Incorrect Leg Sequencing(cont.) Examples: Blue line indicates actual FMS path The FMS executes the missed approach, and prior to turning outbound on the 270 radial from NKE, the FMS reaches the altitude (4,000 ) and sequences the altitude leg, and immediately sequences the next DF leg, dropping the left turn bit. FMS calculates the best turn to the next waypoint

How to Locate Removed Procedures 1. Locate the top level software part number/nz version 2. Utilize SIL D20101100003 to determine what Items are applicable for the specific software part number Not required to determine removed procedures Provides an overview of why the procedures were removed for a specific item 3. Utilize SIL D201108000053 to determine which database is applicable for the specific part number 4. Determine Database ID Pub number D201108000053 Provides a reference table that defines which navigation database is applicable to a specific configuration for Primus Epic equipped aircraft Defines the most restricted database for each aircraft configuration Required for mixed fleet operations, most restricted

How to Find Removed Procedures To find a list of removed procedures from your navigation database (reason for removal can be found in SIL D201011000003): Epic INDS (Charts users) 1. Go to www.epicinds.com (login not required) 2. Select Flight Info drop down and select Content/Procedures 3. Select the appropriate NavDB CD 4. Using the NavDB column to find the applicable aircraft configuration, select the link under the Removed Procedures column If you do not know the database ident or the aircraft type is not listed, reference SIL D201108000053 to determine the correct ident for your aircraft configuration Tailored database information is only available after login 5. This will bring up an excel spreadsheet that is all of the removed procedures from your NavDB

In-Service FMS Summary Reduce file size in order for auto chart linking to function correctly. For non-vnav aircraft its emphasized that crews monitor their altitude and vertical profile to ensure restrictions are met. Reference SIL D201011000003 to understand FMS software anomalies. Visit www.honeywellaes.com or www.epicinds.com to obtain current procedure removal list for the applicable navigation database. Login is only required for tailored navigation database users. Upcoming certifications will address the known issues for FMS EPIC operators. Consult with the applicable aircraft OEM for dates Upcoming FMZ6.1 software loads will address all known issues.
