4 Preface Welcome to the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide. The purpose of the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide is to answer your questions and guide you through the procedures necessary to use the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent efficiently and effectively. Using the manual You will find the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide easy to use. You can simply look up the topic that you need in the Table of Contents. Later, in this Preface, you will find a brief discussion of each chapter to further assist you in locating the information that you need. Special information about the manual The Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide has a dual purpose design. It can be distributed electronically and then printed on an as-needed basis, or it can be viewed online in its fully interactive capacity. If you screen the document online, a standard set of bookmarks appears in a frame on the left side of the document interface for navigation through the document. Conventions used in the manual The Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide uses the following conventions: Information that can vary in a command variable information is indicated by alphanumeric characters enclosed in angle brackets; for example, <server name>. Do not type the angle brackets when you specify the variable information. A new term, or term that must be emphasized for clarity of procedures, is italicized. Page numbering is online friendly. Pages are numbered from 1 to x, starting with the cover and ending on the last page of the index. Although numbering begins on the cover page, this number is not visible on the cover page or front matter pages. Page numbers are visible beginning with the first page of the Table of Contents. This manual is intended for both print and online viewing. If information appears in blue, it is a hyperlink. Table of Contents entries are also hyperlinks. Tap the hyperlink to advance to the referenced information. Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide 4
5 Assumptions for the manual The Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide assumes that: You are familiar with Android-based applications and basic Android functions and navigational elements. References to any third party standards or third party software functions were current as of the release of this version of the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent, and might have already changed. Organization of the manual In addition to this Preface, the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide contains the following chapters: Chapter 1, Getting Started with the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent, on page 6 explains how to open and log in to the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent. It provides an overview of the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent main screen. Chapter 2, Using the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent, on page 10 details all the information and functions that are available from the main screen for working in the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent. Simplify Printing TX Android Agent User Guide 10
11 Chapter 2 Using the Simplify Printing TX Android Agent The Simplify Printing TX Android Agent Subscribed Printers Screen The Subscribed Printers screen lists all the print server printers that your Simplify Printing TX administrator has assigned to you and/or all the local printers to which you have subscribed. The following options are available from the Subscribed Printers screen: Filtering the display on the Subscribed Printers screen. See To filter the display on the Subscribed Printers screen below. Managing local printer requests, which include subscribing to a local printer, unsubscribing from a local printer, and requesting a subscription to a local printer. See To manage local printer requests below. To filter the display on the Subscribed Printers screen If the list of printers is small enough, then you can simply scroll the list; otherwise, you can filter the display for specific printers. 1. In the top right corner of the Subscribed Printers screen, tap the Search icon. A blank search field is displayed at the top of the Subscribed Printers screen. 2. In the blank search field, enter the search criteria. As you enter the search string, the list of objects with names that match the search string is dynamically updated. Your search is limited to the exact order of the characters in the string, but the string is not case-sensitive, and the string can be found anywhere in your search results. For example, a search string of Office returns both Office 2007 Fax viewer and HP officejet printer. To manage local printer requests Managing local printer requests includes subscribing to a local printer, unsubscribing from a local printer, and requesting a subscription to a local printer. 1. In the top right corner of the Subscribed Printers screen, tap the Menu button (the three dots in a vertical row) to open the menu, and then click Settings. The My Printers screen opens. To request a subscription to an object, tap Request for the object. Initially, a Cancel option is displayed for the object. If the object s owner approves your request, then the object remains displayed in your Available Printers list and a Remove option is displayed for the object. If the object s owner denies your request, then the object remains displayed in your Available Printers list and a Request option is again displayed for the object. To unsubscribe from an object, tap Remove for the object. An Add option is now displayed for the object. If you unsubscribe from an object but your Simplify Printing TX administrator has defined a policy that assigns the object to you, then the object is removed from your Subscribed Printers list (queue) for this session only. After you log out, and then log back in to the agent, the object is again displayed in your queue. Contact your administrator for assistance. 4. Optionally, to verify that you successfully subscribed to an object, in the top left corner of the Find Printers screen, tap or swipe across the Menu button (the three lines in a vertical row) to open the menu, and then tap My Printers.
