INTRODUCTION This guide will assist you with the installation of the footscan SCSI balance software, the footscan Calibration File and the initial start-up of the footscan software. Please follow the instructions step by step. The footscan Calibration File is unique and matched to the footscan plate serial number. Before installing, verify if the footscan plate serial number matches the serial number written on the footscan Calibration File Installer CD. Note that the footscan Calibration File supplied for legacy SCSI systems is not compatible with 2 nd generation interface boxes. If the footscan SCSI balance software is installed on footscan SCSI systems where the Pressure Sensitive Layer (PSL) has been replaced before June 2007, the footscan Calibration File is not applicable and the default calibration file will be used. This guide assumes the footscan SCSI system is installed correctly. For instructions on the installation of the footscan SCSI system, consult the installation guide on the footscan software CD (\Manuals\Plate\Installation guides). CONVENTIONS USED IN THIS INSTALLATION GUIDE The following typestyle conventions are used throughout this installation guide: Boldface emphasis and button names Italic selections during the installation progress and references to other sections of this installation guide Underline references to the other guides of your footscan system SYMBOLS Some features are not available in all software versions and/or to all versions of the footscan SCSI interface box. Where applicable, sections are marked with one or more of the following symbols indicating the availability. footscan 2D SCSI interface box footscan 3D SCSI interface box SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS The footscan hardware and software is designed for use on personal computers running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Windows XP Professional, 32 bit with Service Pack 2. Minimum system requirements: Memory: 512 MB of RAM memory. Screen: a minimum display screen resolution of 1024 x by 768 pixels, 16 bit colour quality. Hard drive storage: 100MB of space for the footscan software and additional space for the measurements database. Approximate 0.5MB of additional space is required per measurement. For example a database of 250 patients with 3 measurements per patient requires 375MB additional hard drive space. Page 4
Caution: do not power on the footscan SCSI system until the footscan software and the footscan Calibration File have been installed. The installation of the footscan system consists of three parts: the footscan software installation, the footscan Calibration File installation and the initial start-up. It is important to follow these instructions step by step. Incorrect installation can result in incorrect measurements. FOOTSCAN SCSI SOFTWARE INSTALLATION 1. Power off the footscan SCSI interface box. 2. Power on the computer. Close all open applications. 3. Insert the footscan software CD into the CD-ROM drive, browse to the directory footscan software 20xx\footscan 7.xx Balance SCSI xxxx.xx.xx\ and double-click the setup file. 4. If you experience problems during the measurement or the maximum pressure indicator is out of range (see next step), the footscan SCSI interface box needs to be calibrated. Refer to the footscan SCSI system interface box calibration guide. This guide is available from the RSscan International customer service department (contact information on page 15). Page 13
10. Verify the maximum pressure indicator (blue bar). Calibrate the footscan SCSI interface box if the maximum pressure indicator is out of range. 10.1. If the maximum pressure indicator is between 50% and 70% of the full range, the footscan SCSI interface box does not require calibration. 10.2. If the maximum pressure indicator is over 70% of the full range, the footscan SCSI interface box requires calibration. 10.3. If the maximum pressure indicator is below 50% of the full range, the footscan SCSI interface box requires calibration. 11. Your footscan system is now ready to use, please consult the footscan 7.X balance manual. Page 14
