YOUR GLOBAL M2M PARTNER The Global M2M Association (GMA) brings together leading mobile operators to make it easier for enterprises to launch global M2M services. We help enterprises reduce time-to-market, cut complexity and deliver a seamless connected service to their customers.
From a remote maintenance contract for a luxury sports car to an app cloud for a fitness tracker, the possibilities are practically limitless. Machine to machine communications (M2M) presents a huge opportunity for global manufacturers and retailers to reduce the cost of supporting products while also developing recurring service revenues. 91m Number of wearable electronic fitness devices to ship in 2016 (Gartner) The GSM Association estimates that at the current rate of growth, M2M could account for one billion mobile connections by 2020. The interest in M2M is being driven by cross-border industries like automotive, consumer electronics, logistics and manufacturing. These industries are dominated by global enterprises that want to develop and deploy connected services consistently and worldwide. Their philosophy is typically to build once, run anywhere.
CONNECTIVITY CHALLENGE Pervasive mobile networks are the launch pad for M2M adoption. Mobile communications enable a connected device to be portable and to be connected where no fixed connection exists. With a wide range of communications standards available, from 2G through to 4G, there is a connection plan to suit almost every usage. However, the international telecoms market is very fragmented: different implementations of mobile technology exist, there are varying spectrum bands and most operators have their own provisioning and management process. As enterprises extend their service offerings into this new area, they need to be confident that M2M connectivity is reliable, cost-effective and can meet customer expectations wherever the connected device is used. Enterprises must find partners that can address these needs. Sourcing individual operators across multiple markets to achieve the required coverage can be inefficient and time-consuming. Choosing the wrong partners and incompatible technologies can undermine the new business initiative and discourage endusers from retaining their connected subscriptions. Furthermore, selecting national operators on an ad hoc basis will lead to diverse and conflicting processes for provisioning, billing and customer service. And should a problem arise with a connected device, how can enterprises ensure there is a consistent and seamless process for trouble management if they have multiple service providers, each with their own processes? $14 trillion Industrial Internet of Things could contribute US$14.2 trillion to world output by 2030 (Accenture)
