I. The Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) The Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU Linz, http://www.jku.at/) is a young European university with an expert focus on the academic areas of social and economic sciences, law, natural sciences and engineering. The JKU has defined the principle guidelines for its future development in its profile and strategy concept. Although Business Informatics at the JKU is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business, teaching and research is conducted with other faculties, particularly the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The Field of Business Informatics Institute classification in Business Informatics follows an independent structure in accordance to content intended to provide visible transparency on the engineering aspect of Business Informatics. The subject area of Business Informatics at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business is comprised of the following institutes: Professorship in Business Informatics Information Engineering Page 5

Information Engineering (the department currently seeking a department head) Software Engineering Data & Knowledge Engineering and Communications Engineering The Institute for Business Informatics provides courses primarily in support of the undergraduate degree program in Business Informatics and the Master s degree program in Business Informatics. The department is supported by institutes at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business, the Faculty of Engineering & Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Law. The Institute for Business Informatics is also involved in the doctorate degree program Doktorat der Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften and in the curriculum of other academic degree programs (such as the Bachelor s degree program in Business Informatics, the Master s degree program in Computer Sciences, the Master s degree program in Web Sciences, the Diploma degree program in Business Education). However, the basic program in Information Processing for students at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics & Business outside of Business Informatics is not one of the department s tasks and is carried out by the Institute of Data Processing under Social and Economic Sciences. The professorship position advertised here is for a teaching position, particularly in the fields of Information Management and Information Engineering (in the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Business Informatics). IV. General Requirements for the Position Business Informatics - Information Engineering 1. The Subject Area Business Informatics - as lived and taught at the Johannes Kepler University - is the science of designing, developing, and applying computer-supported information systems. Business Informatics is an interdisciplinary field in which business administration and computer sciences converge and where methods and models are explored and developed using organizational strategies corresponding with information processing. The subject area of Business Informatics is information systems in business and administration. Information systems are socio-technical systems (humans, task, and technology systems) that are comprised of human, task-specific and technological components. They support the collection, structuring, processing, delivery, allocation, communication, and use of data, information, and knowledge as well as their transformation. They contribute to coordinating, managing, and controlling valueadded and administrative processes as well as their automation, integration and visualization under economic and effect-oriented criteria. Information systems should support product, process, and business model innovation. Ideally, the successful candidate will be an expert in business sciences but possess a strong focus on engineering and technology. 2. Research The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research at a corresponding international level in the field of Business Informatics, particularly in Information Professorship in Business Informatics Information Engineering Page 6

Management and Information Engineering. Business Informatics explores information systems with the objective to describe, explain, predict, and design their structures and behaviors. Information Management explores the strategic, administrative and operative planning, management and monitoring of hardware and software systems, data, people, and processes. Information Engineering focuses on the study of information management methodology, meaning the methods, techniques, tools, and their applications. The successful candidate will be expected to cover the following areas of research: Concepts and Methods in Information Management: Evaluation and (further) development of process models, concepts, methods, and tools found in strategic, administrative, and operative areas of information management, such as in the fields of Strategic IT Development, Quality Management, IT Controlling, Security and Risk Management, Business Processes and Knowledge Management. Evaluation, Design and Optimization of Information Systems: Evaluation and assessment of information systems with the goal of determining effectiveness and cost-effectiveness as well as potential for improvement. Theory-based developments and testing process models, concepts, methods, and tools for the design, implementation and optimization of information systems. Technological Assessment: Analysis of the impact of the use of information systems on organizational structures and processes as well as acting individuals. Theoretical Foundations: (Further) development and application of theories and methods to acquire knowledge and assurance in the field of Business Informatics, particularly in Information Management and Information Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to be in a position to initiate and implement research activities in these areas, conduct a high-standard of scientific research, and earn international recognition in this field of research. The candidate s application regarding his/her qualifications for the position will be considered under the following criteria: Post-doctorate degree (venia docendi) in the field of Business Informatics or a comparable internationally recognized post-doctorate degree The quality, quantity and visibility of existing publications in the field of Information Management and Information Engineering (Citation Index, Hirsch Factor) The number of academic and scientific lectures/presentations at international symposia in the field of Information Management and Information Engineering The successful candidate should be well-established in the international research community, be an active member in academic/scientific associations and/or be an active member on editorial boards; have invitations as a key note speaker Professorship in Business Informatics Information Engineering Page 7

Teaching The successful candidate will be expected to Take part in the education of students enrolled in Business Informatics at all levels of qualification, particularly in the fields of Information Management and Information Engineering Take part in the education of selected fields in Computer Sciences and Social and Economic Sciences. Due to the program s international character, the successful candidate will be expected to teach and lecture in Business Informatics in both German and English as well as take part in other programs at the JKU. Additional Requirements Leadership Skills To ensure a well-managed department, the successful candidate is not only expected to have key professional qualifications but also be conscientious and possess strong social skills. Cooperation and Knowledge Transfer The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and take part in cooperation efforts beyond faculty borders. Applicants who do not speak German will be expected to acquire active language skills as quickly as possible and at a level that will allow him/her to take part in university administrative tasks. In the context of knowledge transfer, work with (post-graduate) educational institutions and contact with the local business community is in the foreground. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with companies and other organizations. Collaboration efforts also include the acquisition of external funding in support of research and teaching. Advancement of Women In compliance with proposals for the advancement of women, experience in human resource development and affirmative action programs for women as well as participation in gender mainstreaming projects will be considered. Activities Significance and Time Span The workload distribution between teaching, research and administrative duties is as follows: 40% teaching, 40% research and 20% administrative duties. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in administrative committees. 6. Legal Contingencies The Universities Act 2002 (http://www.unigesetz.at/), effective as of January 1, 2004, completely re-organized the structure of Austrian universities: Austrian universities are now independent, publicly authorized institutions possessing full legal capacity of an enterprise-like structure. They are independently financed on the basis of a three-year service level agreement with the Austrian government, have a global budget at their disposal, and are not subject to any directives from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy. 1. Terms of Employment As of 1 January 2004, all terms of employment, including a university professorship, are subject to the Private Sector Employees Act. The appointment as a university professor therefore represents employment by work contract with the university. The legal framework for this contract is provided by the Private Sector Employees Act with regulations governing labor laws, social welfare laws and pension laws along with the Collective Agreement which will be concluded. An evaluation of all teaching and research activities will be conducted after a 4-year period to assess the fulfillment of all target agreements. In compliance with the Universities Act 2002 and the Collective Agreement for employees, university professors are covered by increased protection against dismissal. 2. Pension Regulations a. Pension The pension account at the Pension Insurance Fund (PVA) calculates the basis for your pension. Company Pension Fund for University Professors In compliance with the Universities Act 2002, a special pension scheme is provided for university professors and has been agreed upon in a Collective Agreement. Since October 1, 2011, the contribution payment made by the university is 10% for the set minimum salary. Voluntary salary payments agreed upon aside from the collective agreement minimum salary are not a part of the base calculation of the contribution payments. VI. Salary The amount of the minimum salary for Group A 1 (professorship) has been determined in the collective agreement for university employees and is a gross annual salary of 66,953.60 Euros per year (last update: 2015). Payment is allocated in 14 equal amounts, whereby two parts are special allocated payments Agreements for an amount over the minimum salary set by the collective agreement can be concretely finalized in an employment contract. The position as Professor of Business informatics Information Engineering provides a provision (on a voluntary basis) to agree on a salary over the minimum salary set by the collective agreement.
