Critics have said that because Skybus failed, somehow the airport lost money. But we didn t. In fact, our gain captured the industry s attention and once again an airlines are returning to Charlotte County.

An airline is a nice feature that certainly makes money for itself and it ferries people from one destination to another. But it brings other benefits, too. During the short period in which we hosted an airline, at least 70 people were employed at the airport alone, including TSA, baggage handlers, restaurant employees, taxi drivers, and more. Visitors to our county ate in our restaurants, stayed in our hotels, shopped in our stores, rented our cars, and inquired about buying homes here. According to John Wright of the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce, when Skybus was here traffic using the PG Chamber website went up by over 45% and many hits were made to its supporting Partner sites and its member businesses. The Chamber has already formed links with the Chambers of seven new destination cities, showing the great potential of an airline-linked economy.
