v Preface tibbr is the first workplace communication tool with which you can follow subjects that relate to your work and interests besides following people as you do in typical social networking applications. That way, you have much more flexibility in obtaining the right information at the right time in the right context. In fact, the information will find you. Topics Typographical Conventions, page vi TIBCO Resources, page ix
vi Typographical Conventions Typographical Conventions The following typographical conventions are used in this document. Table 1 General Typographical Conventions Convention ENV_NAME TIBCO_HOME ProductAcronym_ HOME Use TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments. An installation environment consists of the following properties: Name Identifies the installation environment. This name is referenced in documentation as ENV_NAME. On Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer and is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu. Path The folder into which the product is installed. This folder is referenced in documentation as TIBCO_HOME. TIBCO ProductName installs into a directory within TIBCO_HOME. This directory is referenced in documentation as ProductAcronym_HOME. The default value of ProductAcronym_HOME depends on the operating system. For example, on Windows systems, the default value is C:\tibco\ProductAcronym\ReleaseNumber. code font Code font identifies commands, code examples, file names, path names, and output displayed in a command window. For example: Use MyCommand to start the foo process. bold code font Bold code font is used in the following ways: In procedures, to indicate what a user types. For example: Type admin. In large code samples, to indicate the parts of the sample that are of particular interest. In command syntax, to indicate the default parameter for a command. For example, if no parameter is specified, MyCommand is enabled: MyCommand [enable disable]
Preface vii Table 1 General Typographical Conventions (Cont d) Convention italic font Key combinations Use Italic font is used in the following ways: To indicate a document title. For example: See TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks Concepts. To introduce new terms For example: A portal page may contain several portlets. Portlets are mini-applications that run in a portal. To indicate a variable in a command or code syntax that you must replace. For example: MyCommand PathName Key name separated by a plus sign indicate keys pressed simultaneously. For example: Ctrl+C. Key names separated by a comma and space indicate keys pressed one after the other. For example: Esc, Ctrl+Q. The note icon indicates information that is of special interest or importance, for example, an additional action required only in certain circumstances. The tip icon indicates an idea that could be useful, for example, a way to apply the information provided in the current section to achieve a specific result. The warning icon indicates the potential for a damaging situation, for example, data loss or corruption if certain steps are taken or not taken. Table 2 Syntax Typographical Conventions Convention Use [ ] An optional item in a command or code syntax. For example: MyCommand [optional_parameter] required_parameter A logical OR that separates multiple items of which only one may be chosen. For example, you can select only one of the following parameters: MyCommand para1 param2 param3
viii Typographical Conventions Table 2 Syntax Typographical Conventions Convention Use { } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group. For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4. MyCommand {param1 param2} {param3 param4} In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4: MyCommand {param1 param2} {param3 param4} In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4. MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 param4}

2 Release Notes New Features This section describes the new features by release. Release 5.1.0 Release 5.1.0 contains the following new features: Subjects A major redesign of the subject UI offers additional capabilities, as follows: Tabs The subject content is organized in six default tabs at the top: Wall Posts, People, Links, Files, Bookmarks, and Trends. You can rearrange their display order from the Actions menu. In addition, apps can add their own tabs to display related content on subject pages. New content panes A number of new content panes are available in the right panel. Subject owners can customize the right panel of the Subject Home and Wall Posts tabs. Manage menu A new Manage drop-down menu, available to subject owners and tibbr administrators, is at the top of all subjects. The menu items are Edit Details, Manage Owners, Manage Followers, Manage Groups, Manage Tabs, Manage Bookmarks, and Add Subject Home Page. Subject Home Subject owners can create a unique landing page for the subject and assign a page from the tibbr Pages app as the default. Closure of subjects Subject owners can close subjects whose content is, for example, out-of-date. Afterwards, depending on their permissions, closed subjects remain visible but are not open for posting any more. Subject owners can reopen closed subjects, if desired. Favorite Subjects While on a subject, choosing Actions > Add to Favorites List marks the subject as a favorite. Subsequently, that subject appears under Favorite Subjects in the pane that is displayed on a mouse-over of Subjects in the left panel. Communities We have enhanced the user interface and capabilities for your community networks: You can now more seamlessly connect to, manage, log in to, share posts with, and receive notifications from your communities. VIP The VIP capability enables you to specify a maximum of 10 VIPs, that is, people or subjects whose posts are important to you. tibbr then collects their posts, which are accessible from the VIP tab in the left panel for easy access. You can also make VIP posts the default display on your wall.
New Features 3 Broadcast subjects While creating a broadcast subject, you can select the option Allow all users to post to this subject so that all your colleagues can post to that subject or reply to its posts. Private profile fields If you specify that your profile is private, a tibbr administrator can set one or more of your profile fields as being private. Afterwards, only your approved followers can view those fields. Attaching files to posts While posting on the wall, dragging a file to anywhere in the Post area opens the file-attachment pane, into which you can drop the file. This capability works only in modern browsers, such as Chrome and Internet Explorer 10. Logout in Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) authentication mode tibbr now supports logout in SAML authentication mode. Localization tibbr now supports three more languages: Chinese (Traditional), Korean, and Italian. That means besides English, tibbr is now available in 13 languages: Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Dutch, French, French (Canada), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish (Mexican), Swedish, and Turkish. Gadgets Four new gadgets are now available: User Post, SharePoint Theme Setting, Resource Messages, and tibbr Wall. tenant:create utility A new utility, tenant:create, is now available for creating tenants in a multitenancy setup. Enhanced monitoring A new utility enables you to check the connectivity to several key components of tibbr, such as the search server and the email server. Monitoring applies only if you are hosting tibbr on premise. New parameters This release delivers the following new configuration parameters: set_private Setting this parameter in the user_meta_details.yml file to true specifies that certain fields under Personal Details in a user s profile are private. The default is false. base_community By default (a setting of true), this parameter in the app_config.yml file specifies that your tibbr instance is the base community. logout_enabled and idp_slo_target_url These two parameters, associated with single logout, specify, respectively, the enabling or disabling of single logout and the identity provider s URL for single logout.
4 Release Notes enabled and type under signed_logout These two parameters specify, respectively, whether the SAML logout request is signed and whether tibbr sends the signature in the query-string parameter Signature with SigAlg specified. enabled and type under signed_authentication These two parameters specify, respectively, whether the SAML authentication request is signed with a signature and, if so, what the signature type (enveloped or detached) is. Release 5.0.2 Release 5.0.2 contains no new features. Release 5.0.1 Release 5.0.1 supports signing of authentication requests for SAML. To configure, edit the app_config.yml file and make the saml section under authentication read as follows: authentication: saml: signed_authentication: true signing_certificates: public_crt_file: /crt_file_path/crt_file_name.crt private_key_file: /key_file_path/key_file_name.key Note the following: By default, signed_authentication is set to false. You must specify the absolute paths of the public certificate (public_crt_file) and the private key (private_key_file). The paths in the code segment above are examples. Release 5.0.0 Release 5.0.0 contains the following new features: tibbr for Salesforce.com app With the new tibbr for Salesforce.com app (also called the tibbr Salesforce app), you can perform various Salesforce-related tasks, such as viewing, sorting, or commenting on Salesforce records, and viewing record details. Note: This app requires a separate license.
New Features 5 tibbr Tasks app With the new tibbr Tasks app, you can perform various project-related tasks, such as viewing creating, editing, or deleting projects; creating, editing, or deleting task lists or tasks; and inviting colleagues to be project members. Note: This app requires a separate license. Enhancements in tibbr Ideas (previously called tibbr Ideation) app tibbr now displays similar ideas with matching keywords. In addition, you can do the following: Post ideas to subjects instead of categories. That way, you can share ideas privately through private subjects. Administrators can continue to triage ideas through categories. Create an idea from any post by choosing More > Apps > Create Idea. Specify idea categories. Filter ideas by contributor. Note: This app requires a separate license. Enhancements in tibbr Files app The tibbr Files app now offers more capabilities: previewing files, copying file links, and viewing file properties. Enhancements on Apps page The Apps page, which you access by clicking Explore Apps in the Apps tab in the left panel, now contains three main tabs at the top: My Apps, Company Apps, and Marketplace Apps. Mobile-ready option for apps While creating or editing apps, you can specify in the settings whether they are available for mobile devices. Rich-text support in email template The email notifications that you receive for tibbr posts now have text formatting. Hashtags Hashtags in the form of #one-word-string enable you to collect posts that contain similar content. While you are typing a hashtag, tibbr lists those tags with similar words from which you can choose one as desired. tibbr Developer Center The tibbr Developer Center, accessible as a left-panel tab on the tibbr home page, offers many resources to app developers for tibbr: a comprehensive rundown of the concepts, procedures, and APIs, along with tutorials. Note: This feature requires a separate license. My Posts tab A My Posts tab, configured by the administrator, is now available as the second tab under Main Wall in the left panel. Before, you could view your posts in the Posts tab on the My Profile page only. New gadgets Three new gadgets (Popular Conversations, Popular Subjects, and What s Happening) are now available.
6 Release Notes Enhancements in UI We ve beefed up the user interface, including the following: A green icon labeled New next to the poster s name makes a new post more conspicuous. A thin orange line at the top of the post denotes that the subject is private. On subject pages, tibbr displays the drop-down menu for Private Post and Public Post at the bottom of the Post to area. That way, you can also make private posts to users from subject pages. If you access tibbr s email notifications on a mobile device, the links to users, subjects, and posts open on that device. On a mouse-over of a subject, tibbr displays its description. On the Leaderboard page under Insight in the left panel, tibbr displays the description on a mouse-over of a person s name. If you click the link to an app on tibbr but have not yet enabled that app, tibbr displays a dialog box (see below for an example) for that purpose. tibbr now displays bigger and higher-resolution images within posts. Multiple images attached to a post or reply are shown in a wide-album format with the total image count as an overlay. The home-page banner stays at the top while you are scrolling on tibbr. Instead of a green bubble to denote the loading progress of the home page, tibbr now displays a green progress bar at the top. tibbr ensures that you do not accidentally close the left panel when you move the mouse from a tab there to its pane. This enhancement smooths out the navigation of the tabs. If you navigate to another area while composing a post, tibbr prompts you to confirm, thus ensuring that you do not lose the text you have typed.
New Features 7 Enhancements in performance The following operations are now faster: Logins Wall scrolling Switches between tabs Access of subjects Support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4 tibbr now also runs on RHEL 6.4. New configuration parameter for support of multiple browser tabs in tibbr Chat A new parameter, support_mutiple_browser_tabs (Chat > Multiple Browser Tabs in the application configuration manager) is available to support multiple browser tabs for tibbr Chat. New SharePoint Web Parts We have added three SharePoint Web Parts: Popular Conversations, Popular Subjects, and What s Happening. Turkish version tibbr is now available in Turkish, making a total of 11 language versions for tibbr: Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, English, French, French (Canada), German, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish (Mexican), Swedish, and Turkish.
8 Release Notes Changes in Functionality This section describes the changes in tibbr s capabilities by release. Release 5.1.0 Release 5.1.0 contains the following changes in functionality: Notification enhancements Now in place are the following enhancements for notifications: On the Web UI, tibbr now displays notifications up to a maximum limit of 200 characters. You can now track read versus unread notifications: Notifications that you have not read yet are shown in a different background from those you have read. tibbr now displays the image associated with a post as part of the notification. You can mark notifications as read by mousing over their right margin. Propagation of subsubject posts to main subjects By default, posts to subjects and subsubjects are not posted in the related main subjects. tibbr administrators can revert this behavior to the previous one of having subsubject posts propagated to their main subjects. Email alerts for hidden posts Hiding a post deactivates email alerts, if applicable. Posting of calendar events As a convenience, tibbr now attaches ICS files of calendar events to email notifications. Left panel We have enhanced the UI in the left panel, as follows: The options under Main Wall (My Wall, VIP Posts, Company Stream, Private Posts, Starred Posts, Chat History, and @ user-name) are now displayed at all times. Mousing over Subjects displays a pane that shows your favorite subjects and those you recently visited. Mousing over People displays a pane that shows the people you visited the most.
Changes in Functionality 9 Subject bookmarks The external content that you incorporate into subjects is now called subject bookmarks instead of subject pages. We have correspondingly renamed the related UI elements. Also, while creating a subject bookmark, you can select the option Open in new browser tab to open that bookmark in another tab in the browser. Subject analytics The analytics data that were previously displayed from the Actions > View Insight menu item on a subject is now captured in the Trends tab at the top of the page. Customizations Several directories for the files and parameters for customizing various tibbr UI elements have changed. For details, see the chapter on customization in the tibbr 5.1 Installation and Configuration manual. Release 5.0.2 In Release 5.0.2, the files shown under All Files Shared With Me in the tibbr Files app are those in the subjects that you are following. The files in the public subjects that you are not following are not shown. Release 5.0.1 Release 5.0.1 contains the following changes in functionality: Posting to tibbr by email without a target subject now results in a private post on your wall. For the search server, we have separated out a process called zookeeper. When tibbr starts, this process starts automatically and is shown in the output of status.sh. When running multiple instances of the search servers for load-balancing or fault tolerance, be sure to run only one instance of zookeeper. All the search servers must point to that zookeeper process through the argument -DzkHost, as shown in 2_search.sh.
10 Release Notes Release 5.0.0 Release 5.0.0 contains the following changes in functionality: tibbr Ideas app (previously called the Ideation app): tibbr now allows posting of private ideas. You post them on private subjects just like regular tibbr posts. The interface for creating ideas in the Ideas app is now similar to that for creating posts. The editing privileges of the Ideas participants, owners, and contributors have undergone a few revisions. See the addendum at the end of the section on the tibbr Ideas app. You can no longer specify SharePoint folders while creating tibbr subjects. Company Stream is now a common stream for all users in your organization and contains no private posts. After a post, tibbr resets the Post to field with your name only and clears the names of the subjects and people to whom you posted in the previous post. On the Set Up Alerts page, tibbr now displays the counts of the people and subjects for which you have set up alerts instead of the total following counts. After hiding a post, you will not receive email notifications on subsequent replies to that post any more. The preview section on new posts to the left of the Filter Posts menu is no longer available. In the case of more than 10 replies to a post, tibbr displays 10 at a time. To see more posts, click View previous replies. We have changed the Tomcat HTTP port numbers from 8080,9080,7080,5080 to 8210,9210,7210,5210 for the webclient, tibbr, apps, and apps-rails3 servers, respectively. Similarly, we have changed the AJP port numbers from 8009,9009,7009,5009 to 8139,9139,7139,5139. tibcast has been discontinued and is no longer integrated with tibbr.
Deprecated Features 11 Deprecated Features This section describes the deprecated features (if any), and lists the features, if relevant, that might be useful alternatives to the deprecated features. Any use of a deprecated feature should be discontinued as it may be removed in a future release. You should avoid becoming dependent on deprecated features and become familiar with the suggested alternative features. For details on browser support, see the Readme file. tibbr no longer supports the following features: Customization of event streams Voice memos Oracle Expenses app SAP app Accordingly, we have removed the related documentation from the tibbr How-To Guide and the tibbr Installation and Configuration manual.
12 Release Notes Migration and Compatibility For details on how to migrate from a previous release to the current release, see the section Upgrade or Restore in the tibbr Installation and Configuration manual. In addition to performing the migration steps, be sure to run the import_old_notifications utility. Also, after starting tibbr subsequent to the upgrade, do the following: 1. Run this utility in the tibbr_home/scripts directory to create preview images for the existing ones:./tibbr_util.sh refresh_styles Be sure to wait till refresh_styles finishes running before performing steps 2 and 3. 2. Set the parameter resource_preview_point_to_original in the app_config.yml file to false. 3. Restart the tibbr server.
