The Muniiplity hs predominntly rurl sed eonomy with sttered popultion of pproximtely 6000 people. 1.16 Mny exmples of 19th entury rhiteture, inluding grnd old rurl homesteds nd onvit uilt ottges n e seen within the Muniiplity. Otlnds osts tht it hs the lrgest numer of preserved Georgin uildings in one rurl re. 1.17 Towns nd lolities inlude Mnglore, Bgdd, Brodmrsh, Elderslie, Dysrt, Kempton, Melton Mowry, Otlnds, Tunridge, Tunnk, Prtth, Woodsdle, Levendle, Runnymede, Colerook, Cmpni nd Rekun. 1.18 There re numer of emerging issues for the Muniiplity tht need to onsidered in n emergeny mngement ontext. Popultion nd Demogrphis Popultion snp shot: The popultion of the Southern Midlnds in 2008 ws nerly 6,000. Nerly hlf of the popultion is ged etween 35 nd 64. d e f g Trnsport: Just over 20 perent of the popultion is under 15 yers old. There re over 2,000 households in the Muniiplity. The popultion density is 2.3 people per km2. There is 67% of the popultion living in rurl re. Only 6.8% of the popultion ws orn overses nd less thn 1% speks lnguge other thn English t home. 1.20 The mjority of Southern Midlnds residents rely on privte motor vehiles for trnsport etween different lotions. In 2008 there were just under 5000 registered motor vehiles (inludes truks uses et) in the Muniiplity. There is n extensive network of shool us servies nd very limited puli us servies for residents.
