Mission Statement OHS Viking Film Festival Student Rules & Guidelines The Oakmont High School Viking Film Festival honors the aspiring student filmmakers and their peers who want to bring their imagination to life. Storytelling explores the range of human experience with hopeful vision, artistry, truthfulness, and integrity. When & Where The Viking Film Festival will be held on May 6, 2016 in the OHS Theater. Doors open at 6:00 PM and show starts at 6:30 PM. Tickets will be $5.00 pre-sale and $8.00 at the door. Festival Goals To honor Oakmont High School Student filmmakers & their creativity, providing a venue for public exhibition of their work. To encourage filmmakers in their development as artists. To highlight the significance of film as a medium that can express beauty, truth, and goodness, prompting meaningful dialogue, and engaging culture. To offer opportunities for audiences to learn more about the filmmaking process in dialogue with filmmakers. The judges encourage filmmakers to explore the human experience in all of its dimensions. Eligibility The Producer, Director, Writer, Cinematographer, and Editor MUST be a full-time high school student in order to be eligible to enter. The majority of these major roles MUST be played by an enrolled Oakmont High School Student. At least one of the main actor(s) must be a current High School Student. Film must have been completed IN ITS FINAL SUBMITTED VERSION on Tuesday, April 19 th 2016. No industry professionals or faculty can play a major role (Producer, Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor, or Sound Engineer), although they can have an advisory role. The film must be considered a student production. A single student may contribute a maximum of three (3) films in which he/she played a major role. (Producer, Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor, or Sound Engineer) Projects developed by teams are encouraged. For team projects, all credits must be given to each contributing member in either the films credits or on the submission form. (If your camera person was sick for a scene and you had to replace for that one scene, be sure to mention the new person)

Any single film may only be submitted to the Viking Film Festival once. No repeat entries in subsequent years are allowed. The Viking Film Festival encourages creativity and originality. The Festival acknowledges that expressing the range of human experience with artistry and truthfulness may result in stories and images that are gritty or the cause of offense to some. However, judges will likely exclude films that do not uphold the values generally shared by a broad OHS community audience. For instance, the judges will likely exclude films with excessive obscenity, excessive violence (majority of excessive violence should be implied not shown), or whose subjects are in poor taste or risqué. Content matters. Films may be narrative/fiction, non-fiction/documentary, or experimental in nature. Submissions must have a minimum length of 4 minutes, and may have a maximum of 10 nonnegotiable minutes. All films will be judged by a panel of judges including: OHS faculty/staff/alumni who understand filmmaking who will be judging each submission. The judges will evaluate the films on the merits of: 1. Story (originality/creativity/emotional drama) 2. Production Values (quality of lighting, sound, camera work, editing, pacing) 3. Acting (quality of performance) 4. Capacity of the film to meet the festival goals, exploring the range of human experience with hopeful vision, artistry, truthfulness, and integrity A film must have at least three judges nominations in order to receive an award in a particular category. Judges may decline to give an award in a particular category if no entry meets the festival s standards of quality. The judge s top high school film will screen at the next years Film Festival, as well as the possibility to screen after the OHS Bulletin in a close-following airing after the Festival, as well as be recognized that evening as an outstanding high school film. All films accepted by the judges for screening at the Film Festival will be notified ahead of time. Award Categories All films accepted for screening in the high school festival are eligible for awards. Categories may include: Best Picture Best Cinematography Best Screenplay Best Editing Best Music Video Best Documentary Best Animation Best Male/Female actor Best supporting actor or actress Best Line from a Film Best Performance by Alumni or Staff

Submission Guidelines All short films MUST be submitted by the set admission date. Films may be rejected if they do not seem fit to be viewed in the film festival. Films MUST be submitted on USB drive to room 401. Formats accepted are:.avi,.mpeg, or.mov Projects that cannot be viewed by the judges will be disqualified from the competition. Entries with incomplete or illegible entry forms, illegible labels on media or in the wrong media format can be disqualified. Films not in English must be clearly subtitled or dubbed into English. If you plan on submitting a film into the festival, then you must fill out a submission form. All films entered must have submitted a 30 second trailer of their film to air on the OHS School bulletin to get their film hyped. Remember films and trailers must be appropriate for a school bulletin airing. All submissions will be accepted at the discretion of Mr. Bohren.
