1 BRUCE LEE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION To All Applicants, The purpose of this program is to provide a financial award to students who understand, appreciate and exemplify Bruce Lee s passion for education as well as his qualities of honest expression, forward thought, self-exploration, and drive. The scholarships are available to students age 16 and older who will be attending, or are already attending, a two-year college, four-year university, graduate school or licensed trade and vocational school within the United States. ALL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WILL BE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION THAT THE APPLICANT IS CURRENTLY, OR WILL BE, ATTENDING. ELIGIBILITY & AWARD The Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship is open to students aged 16 years and above. The scholarship must be used to cover the remaining costs of tuition first, then books, resources, and room and board. Proof of enrollment and an up to date class schedule must be provided prior to disbursement of the scholarship. The award breakdown is as follows: 1 x Major $ 10,000 Scholarship 4 x Minor $ 2,500 Scholarships 1 x $ 2,500 Junior Giants Scholarship (Junior Giants Students Only) 1 x $ 1,500 Las Vegas Downtown Project Scholarship (Las Vegas Students Only) Answers to frequently asked questions are available online at bruceleefoundation.org/scholarships. To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must: Be a student aged 16 years or older Be attending or will be attending a two-year college, four-year university, graduate school, or licensed trade and vocational school within the U.S. Be involved in extracurricular activities Have work experience or demonstrate service within their community Demonstrate personal drive Have knowledge of and/or identify with Bruce Lee and his insights Junior Giants and Las Vegas students will also be considered for the major and minor scholarships, respectively. 2 DATES, DEADLINES & SUBMISSIONS Applications open on Tuesday, April 12th, To do our part for the environment, we are no longer accepting mailed or faxed applications and letters of recommendation. Submit the following materials by 5:00pm US PT on Friday, June 10th, 2016 via ONLY to Completed Scholarship Application Completed answers to Parts 2 and 3 (on separate pages, if required) Two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last six months ALL APPLICATION MATERIALS MUST BE SENT TOGETHER AND BE ED TO [email protected] BY 5 P.M. US PACIFIC TIME ON FRIDAY, JUNE 10th, Please type your first and last name at the top of each new page. You are able to type your answers to all questions directly into the space provided on this form. Applications submitted in Microsoft Word, Apple Pages or Google Docs formats, and handwritten then scanned and ed, will also be accepted. Where possible, please send your submission as one attached file. Applications for all Bruce Lee Scholarships must be received by the Bruce Lee Foundation no later than 5:00 p.m. US PT on Friday, June 10th, Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applicants reaching the final stages of selection may be required to be interviewed by phone. Please make sure to include all phone numbers where you can be reached. Individuals who are selected to receive a scholarship will be notified via the or phone number listed on their application by Tuesday, August 16th, Scholarship winners will be asked to provide a high resolution photo of themselves and to participate in social media and other online opportunities which may include, but are not limited to, the Bruce Lee Foundation sharing your story, your essay answers and goals with others.
