To provide quality professionals in the areas of forecasting, planning and systems management to create and disseminate knowledge for the betterment of mankind and society. VISION To be a frontier-institution in providing multidisciplinary education with futuristic vision of planning and systems management through significant multidirectional relationships in teaching, research, extension, training and consultancy. 1. Department Overview: The School of Futures Studies and Planning, a University Teaching Department was established in the year 1990 to run M.Tech. programme in Future Studies and Planning. It was the first M.Tech. level programme in Future Studies and Planning duly recognized by AICTE, New Delhi in the country. The school has started another academic programme M.Tech. in Systems Management in the year 2005 after getting approval from AICTE, New Delhi. It is developed to train the students to design, model, analyze and manage modern complex systems. It delivers a multidisciplinary curriculum covering systems engineering, management, information technology, modelling, project finance, e-business, etc. National Council for Science and Technology (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, New Delhi has selected the School of Futures Studies and Planning to start PG programme in S&T Communication first time in India. The school started the Masters Programme in S&T Communication in the year 1993-94 with financial support from the NCSTC. The programme has been modified on the recommendations of NCSTC. Now it is being offered as M.Sc. in science communication. As per recommendations of the NCSTC s evaluation committee the university has established Centre for Science Communication in June, 2005 to take care of academic programmes on science and technology communication. The centre offers M.Sc. degree in science communication with financial support from NCSTC, DST, New Delhi. distance education in the year 2007 with financial support from NCSTC, DST, New Delhi. Seeing the need of business forecasting the school has started a new programme M.B.A. in Business Forecasting in 2008. In addition to these academic programmes the school also offers Ph.D. degree in interdisciplinary areas like Technology Management, Modelling and Simulation, Econometrics, Environmental Management, Forest Management etc.. 2.
