1 INFORMATION BROCHURE FOR MASTER S DEGREE AND DOCTORAL (PH.D) PROGRAMS FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS 1.0 INTRODUCTION We would like to extend a warm welcome to the prospective students who would like to join SRTM University. It will be a smart choice for selecting this university to exchange your ideas, cultural perceptions, political and social attitudes that can improve the quality of life for all students. The university not only caters to academic growth but it is also committed to intercultural communication. The students, faculty and staff of SRTM University join in this effort in mutual growth. We hope the brochure will clear some of your preliminary questions. 2.0 THE UNIVERSITY Established in 1994, Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University is an affiliated university located in Nanded and has emerged as one of the fast growing city in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Founded on 17 th September 1994, the day on which, erstwhile Hyderabad State was liberated from the rule of Nizam in Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University pledges itself to uphold zealously its mission of promoting acquisition and dissemination of knowledge through fearless and sustained pursuit of excellence aimed at molding personalities of students entering its portals to grow with an upright character filled with enlightenment and to be the value adhering members of a just and humane society. Realizing the needs of the students of this region, the mission of the university is to impart affordable and sound education that reflects the national agenda for higher learning.

2 3.0 LOCATION The University is located 14 kms from the city on the State Highway on the Latur Road. The region is noted for its agricultural base and has a serene environment for creative learning. It is one of the fast growing districts in Marathwada region of the State of Maharashtra. The place has a population of 8 lakhs. The campus spreads over 600 acres and is currently composed of 1500 students with a faculty and staff of 800. The campus has excellent independent buildings and infrastructure for achieving academic excellence in a serene environment. Included are classrooms, library, laboratories, research equipment, and quarters for administrative staff, playground and administrative offices. The city of Nanded with its historic background has a unique blend of past history and modern outlook, prepared to face the challenges of 21 st century. The famous holy city is situated on the banks of Godavari River in southeastern part of Maharashtara State. The place is well connected by rail, road and air with the other principal cities by train from Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) (650 km), Delhi (1700 km), Nagpur (350 km), Bangalore (800 km) and Hyderabad (270 kms). Nearest airport with regular flight services are located at Aurangabad (260 km) and Hyderabad (270 km) 4.0 ABOUT THE CAMPUS SCHOOLS The university in its preamble has adopted the School system on the campus with a stress on interdisciplinary learning and research programs in different disciplines of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management Sciences, Technology and Engineering, and Social Sciences.

3 4.1 FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY School of Chemical Sciences The School of Chemical Sciences has been offering M.Sc. in interdisciplinary subjects such as Medicinal Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry since It has a built up area of 28,500 sq. ft. is well equipped in terms of class rooms, laboratories, store room, cabins for faculty, and seminar hall. The faculty is drawn from different parts of state/country to promote excellence in higher education. Most of the faculty members have Ph.D. degree and rich post doctoral experience in advanced laboratories in India and abroad. The research pursuits in the school are wide ranging, inter disciplinary and of a high order. The school has contributed to research in a significant way in the last five years. In the past five years faculty have published over 200 publications in reputed journals published by American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Royal Society of Chemistry and Indian Academy of Sciences. School of Earth Sciences

4 The School offers M.Sc. Geology, Geography and Environmental Science courses at PG and has identified Groundwater, Environment, Geophysics, seismology and Geochemistry as thrust areas of the research. Environmental pollution including water, air and soil, monitoring and evaluation studies is being carried out in and around Nanded city. The school also actively participates in the earthquake monitoring studies in this area. Several Ph.D.s have been awarded in the Fields of Geomorphology, Remote sensing, Pollution aspects, Water Quality Studies and Environmental Impact Studies, geophysics and geology. Few Sponsored research projects are completed in the areas of Environmental pollution aspects in and around, Nanded, Seismotectonics of the Killari region and Prakasham Alkaline provence, Eastern Gfhat Belt etc. School of Life Sciences The DST-FIST sponsored School of Life Sciences formally came into existence in September 1994 with the establishment of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. The School was established with a stress on Interdisciplinary learning and research in Life Sciences. The School is also supported by UGC under the NON-SAP programme. The courses offered by the school includes M.Sc. and research programmes in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany and Zoology. The thrust areas of research of the faculty include Bioprospecting of local Biodiversity for Useful compounds, environmental Biotechnology, therapeutic enzymes and bioactivities of medicinal plants, Development of vaccines against Herpes Viruses using Bioinformatics approaches, Development of Biofertilisers, development of database for medicinal plants etc.

5 School of Computational Sciences The thrust of the School of Computational Sciences is to provide the students with a thorough and sound background in computing, mathematics relevant to software development, Network Technologies, Software Project Management and Multimedia applications. The Programs are conceptualized and designed to provide better quality education to the student. School of Physical Sciences

6 The School of Physical Sciences offers M.Sc. Physics course which is a conventional degree course and the student can have option to take special group subjects such as Astrophysics, Materials Science, Fiber Optics & Lasers, and Electronics. The Faculty members of the School of Physical Sciences are actively engaged in research and funds to the tune of Rs.1.5 crores have been generated so far from various agencies such as UGC, ISRO, DST, CSIR, etc. The school has published more than 250 research papers in reputed journal and 10 books as well. Faculty members are also having research collaboration with various institutes in India and abroad. The School also offers Ph.D. programs in Applied / Experimental Physics as well as Theoretical Physics. The faculty is engaged in carrying out extensive research in the area of experimental solid state physics, Materials Science, Observational Astrophysics, Theoretical Astrophysics, Chemical Physics, Non-linear Optics and in interdisciplinary areas, covering broadly the topics such as Bioactive Nano-materials, Single mode optical Fibers, Optical Fiber Evanescent wave Sensors, Astrophysics, Interstellar medium, Identification of cosmic cool objects, Dielectric Polar liquids etc. School of Pharmacy

7 The School of Pharmacy offers two courses in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at PG level. The curriculum has been designed as per AICTE norms with emerging/cutting edge topics in the field of Pharmacy. 4.2 FACULTY OF ARTS, COMMERCE AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES School of Educational Sciences The School of Educational Sciences is committed to prepare competent, committed, efficient and effective teacher educators through its courses. Teacher education has special responsibility in providing quality education for emerging knowledge society. Therefore, we are shaping course content and academic activities in new fashion. Our efforts are to make this school a leading modern institution dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the services society. The School is dedicated to encourage individuals to realize their full potential, and to train competent professionals in a global world. School of Languages and Literature The School of Languages and Literature was established with the aim of promoting language, literature and culture. School of Media Studies

8 The School of Media Studies conducts P.G. course in Library & Information Sciences, "M. A. Mass Communication & Journalism" and plans to introduce M. A. (Electronic Media) and CCMA (Certificate Course in Multimedia Animation). School of Social Sciences The School of Social Sciences is poised for generation of knowledge in fields of social research and social work through quality education. The extension activities of the School deal with issues of social importance and relevance to the society at large and the region in particular. School of Commerce & Management Sciences The School of Commerce & Management Sciences offers two professional/academic Master courses viz; MBA and M.Com of two years duration distributed over four semesters. The faculty in the school is actively involved in

9 promoting entrepreneurship development programs, conducting research projects, surveys and publication of research papers. With the aim of promoting all round development, the university has been striving hard with more measures to increase the current strength of students and the number of Schools to facilitate admission of foreign students. 5.0 ADMISSIONS Admission to International students to all the Master s and Doctoral Degree programmes offered by the university will be done through the Office of The International Students Centre (ISC). All foreign nationals (holding citizenship other than Indian or in addition to that of Indian) are eligible to apply as International Students. 6.0 ELIGIBILITY The qualifications required for eligibility for admission to different courses can be checked in detail from the Prospectus available on the university website. Only those students who have qualified from foreign universities or Boards of Higher Education recognized as equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are eligible for admission. When required, a reference will be made to the AIU to check the equivalence. The students should submit the documents mentioned in the eligibility form in order to check equivalence through the AIU, along with the applications. For all the Master s or Doctoral programs at this university, the ISC from Non- English speaking countries or those who have not completed their Degree course in English Medium should write the English Proficiency Test and clearing this test is mandatory for all the students. Students from Developed countries should submit their TOEFL and GMAT Scores for MA while students for all other M.Sc. programmes should submit their TOEFL Scores in order to be eligible to a course offered by the university. 7.0 TRANSFERS AND CHANGE OF COURSE: An International student who has been granted admission to a particular course shall not be allowed to change the course. In exceptional cases, the

10 ISASC may permit this based on eligibility rules and permission of the competent authority of the university 8.0 PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION: Step 1: Apply for admission in the prescribed Application Form, downloadable from the university website along with a demand draft of US $ or its equivalence in Indian Rupees drawn in favor of The F & A O, SRTM University payable at Nanded towards the application processing charges for a single course. Send the application form along with the demand draft to the Office of The International Students Academic Services Centre. Fill and submit the eligibility form, along with copies of the certificates listed in the eligibility form: a. Degree/PG certificate along with the transcript from his/her university (Translated in English Version) as proof of eligibility. b. The eligibility fees for non-professional courses is Rs. and for and Professional courses is Rs. This may be paid through the Bank of Maharashtra, extension counter on the University campus or by Demand draft (Bank pay order drawn in favor of The FA&O, SRTM University, Nanded, payable at Nanded. c. After the student is admitted to a programme, he/she will be required to pay a fee of US $ for Association of Indian Universities (AIU, New Delhi) Equivalence. Step 2: Once the university ascertains the eligibility of the candidate to apply for a particular programme, the following steps are initiated: 1. A provisional admission letter will be sent to the candidate to secure a student visa to India. The University issues the letter of offer for a student to be eligible for getting his Visa from the Indian Embassy located in the respective country, once the provisional admission and eligibility letter is issued from the ISASC of the university. 2. The student visa is a compulsory Government of India requirement for admission to the university. The visa should indicate: the name of the university, title of the programme and the period of study at the university.

11 Step 3: The applicant is required to pay the entrance fee, medical fee, and medical insurance fee in the appropriate bank challan (deposit slips). The total amount to be paid is US $ or the equivalent sum in Indian Rupees. The applicant must do this in person. The candidate must carry all original certificates to be shown on demand. Please submit receipts of the above payments to the O/o The IASC Centre. This completes the initial procedure. The applicant must do this in person. Step 4: Upon verifying the receipts, admission of International students will be confirmed please collect the final admission letter and it is the duty of the student to report to the particular School /college in the campus or a college affiliated to the university within 7 days from the issue of the letter. Failure to report will entail automatic cancellation of the admission. No refund of any of the fees paid to the university is possible under any circumstances. The candidate is required to pay the requisite fees to complete the procedures to get admission. Step 5: It is mandatory for every student to take the medical test/ health check up from the Health Centre. It is the responsibility of the student to be present on the date of the test at the Health Center. Step 6: It is mandatory for any student from Non-English speaking countries to pass an Entrance Test in English Proficiency at the School of Language and Literature, University campus and it his/her responsibility to be present on the day of the examination. Step 7: After being enrolled at the university as a fulltime student and payment of fees etc, the candidate is required to present the passport, the letter of admission, physical examination report to the Warden for your residence within 30 days from the date when you enter the country. Step 8:. All International students should register their names with the police in the Foreigners Registration Office/Cell (FRO) of the local police within 2 weeks of arrival in India.

12 9.0 DISCIPLINE: International students will abide by all rules of the university and the code of conduct as applicable to Indian students doing the same programme EXAMINATION AND AWARD OF DEGREES: The procedure for examination, payment of fees, issue of passing certificates and award of degrees will be the same as for the Indian students doing same When the course (s) is completed satisfactorily, students will be awarded Master s or Doctoral Degree.
