Introduction The hardware inventory management system (HIMS for short) is a web application that runs in a web browser. It was designed to be accessible via web from any place that has web access. The following covers a tutorial on what it does and how to use this web application. Running HIMS To start the HIMS web application, open a browser, and type in the following, then hit the Enter key to go to the link: http://weblab.cs.uml.edu/~mnourai/527/finalv1/ A login screen will be displayed. Make sure that you have Javascript and Cookies enabled. Enter the username and password to login to the HIMS system. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 3
Successful Login to HIMS Upon a successful login, HIMS will display information for All Hardware. This information is saved in a database on weblab server. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 4
HIMS Main Screen HIMS main screen is divided into three parts, drop-down menus, hardware list, and hardware details section. Clicking on an ID shown under the ID Tag in the hardware list section, will display the details of that record in the hardware details section. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 5
Drop-down menus This is where you would start from. The menus consist of Rooms, Categories, Tasks, and Logout. Rooms menu consists of 6 rooms and allows you to see a list of hardware belongs to each room. Categories menu consists of 5 different types of hardware categories, which are Desktops, Monitors, Printers, Projectors, and Servers. It allows you to display the entire hardware inventory within the database by type of device. Tasks menu consists of 2 items at this time. It allows you to display list of all hardware saved in the database, or add a new hardware to the database. Logout was provided for security purpose, and it simply closes HIMS and displays the login screen. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 6
To Edit a Record To edit a specific record, click on the pencil icon located on the right hand side of the record. An edit dialog box will be display. Modify the desired information, then click the Save button to save the information in the database, or click the Cancel button to disregard your changes. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 7
To Delete a Record To delete a specific record, click on the icon located on the right hand side of the record. A confirmation dialog will be display. Click on OK button to delete the record, or click on the Cancel button if you do not want to delete that record. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 8
To Add a Record To add a record, click on the Tasks in the drop-down menu section, then click on Add New Hardware. Add new hardware dialog will be displayed. Enter the desired information and then click on the Save button to save the record in the database, or click on the Cancel button to disregard the record. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 9
To Sort the Records To sort the records in the hardware list section, you can click on the column heading. Each click on the column heading would toggle the sort in ascending or descending order. 91.527 - Human Computer Interaction Page 10
