Institute of Transport Studies (Monash) Transport Management Course in Bus & Coach Operations Annual Newsletter for TMC Participants August 2011 Awards Prize Ceremony The Institute of Transport Studies at Monash University presented the 2010/2011 Transport Management Course awards for best performances by participants in the bus and coach operator accreditation course in Melbourne on 16 August 2011. The awards were presented in conjunction with the Transport and Traffic postgraduate coursework, research program and the William Young Alumnus Award awards at the annual Ogden Transport Lecture. A large audience attended the function at the State Library of Victoria, Village Roadshow Theatrette, and included senior officers of Transport Safety Victoria (TSV) and the Victorian Department of Transport, representatives of Bus Association of Victoria (BusVic), Deputy Vice-Chancellor and senior staff of Monash University as well as many industry, government and academic representatives. The best performance awards are sponsored by industry and government and recognise outstanding performance of bus and coach operators completing subjects in the accreditation course. The award presentations were followed by an address by Professor Ellen Dunham-Jones, Professor of Architecture, Georgia Institute of Technology, Retrofitting Suburbia: Pragmatic ideas for a resilient built environment. The University thanks the industry sponsors for their support of the awards and the course. Monash University is proud of the achievements of the award winning operators and the many other operators who have successfully completed the course, thereby contributing to the safety and professional standards of the industry. This has resulted in the development and presentation of a Safety Management Course for Bus Operators (SMC). The SMC consists of two subjects: Subject 5101 : Introduction to Bus Safety Subject 5102 : Safety Risk Management for Bus Operators In addition, in 2010 the Bus Services Act, a revised version of the Public Transport Competition Act (1995), created a new entry into the bus market with additional requirements for bus operators entering contractual arrangements for regular passenger services.
