How Suncorp Responded Deployed CRTs to worst affected areas within days of disasters stayed until no longer needed. Set up Qld Event Recovery team 150 staff. Partnered with Lend lease and other Project Managers to rebuild 6,000 homes. Fast Track claims strategy - $2,000, $5,000 and over $10,000. Team Managed and Client Managed claims matched severity with experience (e.g. Major/Total losses). Set up offices at disaster sites Brisbane, Ipswich, Cairns, Innisfail and Townsville. Set up working team to oversee management of AAMI Flood claims made correct decisions. Engaged with Mayors, State MPs, Federal MPs, Qld Premier, Journalists, QRA Directors and customers. Set up processes to identify sensitive issues and misinformation (e.g. Twitter, SCRs) Paid claims 6

State and Federal Inquiries Inquiry/Revie w Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry Terms of Reference (for insurers) This will involve an inquiry into the performance of private insurers in processing and deciding flood related claims including: the timeliness of processing claims the adequacy of the assessment process the adequacy of communication between the insurer and the insured the adequacy of complaints processes about the claims House of Representatives : Operation of the insurance industry during disaster events National Disaster Insurance Review (NDIR) Whether consumers were given accurate and useful information about their right to make a claim and the progress of that claim. The time taken to process claims and whether these timeframes were reasonable. The engagement of third party experts and external consultants by the industry, including hydrologists and law firms, and the impact of these external parties on claims processing. Whether industry IDR processes were effective and undertaken in a timely manner. the ability of private insurance markets to offer adequate and affordable insurance cover for individuals, small businesses and governments for natural disasters; whether there is a case for subsidising insurance premiums for individuals and small businesses in the areas of highest risk facing the highest premiums; whether there is a role for the Commonwealth Government in providing disaster insurance or reinsurance to the private sector; the relationship between disaster mitigation measures and the availability and affordability of flood and other disaster insurance.
