CANADIAN HOSPITALITY FOUNDATION 2015 SCHOLARSHIP POST DIPLOMA (Hospitality/Tourism/Culinary) AREAS OF STUDIES: Hospitality-Tourism, Culinary, Food and Beverage Who Can Apply University students in the final year of a i) Hospitality-Tourism, ii) Culinary or iii) Food and Beverage diploma program enrolling in September of this year in a: - university hospitality degree program Applicants must be Canadian Citizens or Landed Immigrants Students who have received other Canadian Hospitality Foundation scholarships in the past are eligible to apply for this scholarship. How to Apply Submit the completed form along with the following documents to Admissions, Mount Saint Vincent University. Missing, falsified or incomplete documents will be grounds for elimination: Application form: completed and signed (pen or typewritten only) OFFICIAL Transcript of Records most current transcript of your complete academic history (web grades, photocopy, emailed or faxed transcripts are NOT accepted) Resumé Letter(s) of recommendation from your program instructor and/or Administrator must be signed and must include address, telephone and email address Letter(s) of recommendation from your past or current employers must be signed and must include address, telephone and email address. A 600-word essay on one of the topics listed on the application form The Foundation reserves the right to check all references. All documents submitted in French must include an English translation. Deadline for Submission The completed application form and the required documents. must be submitted to Admissions, Mount Saint Vincent University on or before Monday, August 10, 2015. Applications received after that date will not be eligible.
Criteria Applications are to be judged on the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows: Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience and for increased levels of responsibility Scholarship record (20): based on grade point average Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions. Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions Discretionary points (10): given to the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation). Payment of Scholarship Money The scholarship money will be paid in its entirety in November of the year the scholarship is awarded. The Foundation will seek confirmation of full-time enrollment from the college/university before payment is made. Payment is made directly to the college/university for credit towards the recipient s tuition fees. If the tuition fee has already been paid in full, the money will then be paid to the student by the college/university. Post Diploma Scholarship cont d ESSAY You will be required to submit an essay with the package that you mail to us. Please write your essay on one of the following topics (600 words): 1. As our world increasingly becomes a "global village", managers are faced with the task of managing a very diverse workforce. What strategies would you implement to successfully lead such a workforce? 2. Employee retention is a major issue in the foodservice-hospitality industry. Additionally the industry is facing a major shortage of skilled workers. What actions would you take to ensure that your 400-set casual/fine-dining restaurant does not fall victim to these trends? 3. What significant changes have occurred in the structure of the hotel industry in the last decade and why? 4. What are the factors an independent hotelier should take into consideration in deciding whether to brand a property? 5. Evaluate the hospitality-foodservice education and training you have received thus far and describe whether it has equipped you to succeed in the industry you have chosen to make your career. (Please note this particular essay topic is not open to applicants for the Applied Degree or Graduate scholarships.)
