Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh Expected graduation: August, 2009 Dissertation: MANAGING OUTSOURCING DECISIONS GOVERNMENT POLICY, FIRM OPTIONS, AND THE ECONOMIC IMPACT This research takes on a three-part approach to investigate: (1) Government policies with regard to offshore outsourcing, finding the best government public policy option facing the ever growing offshore outsourcing. (2) At the individual firm level, what are the most advantageous approaches firms should take when considering offshore outsourcing? This part explores a firm s outsourcing decision at both strategic and operational level. Specifically, it looks for when, how much, what and where to outsource. Professional Memberships Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) E-business Section, Decision Sciences Institute (DSI). Research Accomplishments As the project manager and lead researcher, successfully led a team of four in designing and implementing a computerized real time power distribution network monitoring system (cutting edge technology in 1984) in Sichuan, China. Developed and implemented a Chinese character processing system (both hardware and machine level software) for the PIED PIPER Microcomputer, in 1983-1984. This system was put into production and was profitable. Developed and assisted others to develop four core demo projects for a PIED PIPER microcomputer promotional exhibition. These projects made the exhibition a huge success which in turn enabled the sale of over 500 units of PIED PIPERs in 1983.
