January 20, 2016 at the Chicago Hilton OTHER INDUSTRY EVENTS The Merits of Moving to the International Building Code Hosted by BOMA/Chicago, AIA Chicago and the International Code Council November 23, 2015 University Center (525 S. State Street) GOLD CIRCLE AWARDS PROFILE Solving Real Issues through Committee Involvement BOMA/Chicago continues to work with business groups across the state to oppose the Mayor's tax shift proposal that would further shift the property tax burden onto commercial buildings, businesses and renters. On Monday, October 19, the City filed an amendment to Senate Bill 1488 in Springfield to raise the exemption from $7,000 to $14,000. This would shift nearly 70% of the burden for the proposed property tax increase to businesses and renters. If the legislation passes, the property tax increase will cause commercial property taxes to increase by as much as 22%. The legislation could come up for a vote as soon as November 10. BOMA/Chicago, along with the coalition of business groups opposing the shift, is distributing a joint fact sheet to legislators to further educate them about the ramifications of the tax shift 2010 Affiliate of the Year Bobby Graham National Account Sales Director Facility Solutions Group Click here to read the full Q&A! UPCOMING LIGHT REQUESTS November 18 Brown Bag: Comparing & Contrasting ComEd's Retro and Monitoring-Based Commissioning Programs The ComEd retro-commissioning program and ComEd monitoring-based commissioning program, two elements of ComEd's "Smart Ideas for Your Building" pool of incentives, are both designed to uncover low-cost, rapid payback energy efficiency opportunities and optimize building performance. But, each program is different and varies upon program timeframe and scale of data analysis. This Brown Bag seminar, hosted by Sieben Energy Associates, will compare and contrast both programs and also demonstrate how monitoring-based commissioning takes a project beyond the parameters of retro-commissioning to achieve more comprehensive and persistent energy savings. Join BOMA/Chicago and Sieben Energy Associates at this Brown Bag on Wednesday, November 18 at 115 S. LaSalle in the 8th Floor Conference Center from 12-1 p.m. Lunch will be served! International Building Code (IBC) Free Seminar on November 23 Virtually all major cities in the United States have adopted some form of the model International Codes as published by the International Code Council (ICC), including New York City, which revised their 1968 code in 2006 and again in 2015. Cook County similarly took their building code from 1963 and adopted the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) in 2014. Model building codes are regularly updated on a three-year cycle, making them predictable and current. Should Chicago once again consider adopting the ICC's International Building Code (IBC)?
