Detoxification Detoxification is a service provided to people who are experiencing difficult withdrawal symptoms from substance abuse and dependence. It is typically a 3-7 day process which may include a medical component if the symptoms are severe. The main purpose of detoxification is to ensure the physical health and safety of the individual while reducing the uncomfortable aspects of withdrawal. At this time, the options are: Entering an in-patient detoxification clinic outside of Mohave County. This is recommended for persons getting off of heroin, alcohol and some prescription medications. Acceptance to any facility is subject to availability. Self detoxification with the help of an out-patient program. This is recommended for persons getting off of cocaine, marijuana, most hallucinogens and amphetamines (including methamphetamine). Intensive Outpatient Programs Intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment services provide up to 9 hours of treatment per week. Typically, IOP programs are 6-12 months in duration. Like regular outpatient treatment, IOP can often be attended while maintaining many of their regular daily activities, including living at home and working. Services incorporated in IOP are similar to those found in outpatient, except they are scheduled more often and continue for a longer period of time.
