FINLAND IN BRIEF The republic of Finland is known as the country of thousands of lakes and it has the largest archipelago in Europe. A sauna is a sacred place for the nation. Finns are all proud of their wide range of wellknown sporting figures and celebrities. For example Father Christmas himself comes from Finland! Finland is also known for its international design brands and technological knowhow. Did you know that Finland is the home of Angry Birds? They were created by a Finnish mobile entertainment company! KYMENLAAKSO IN BRIEF Kymenlaakso is a dynamic region in Southeast Finland offering a variety of services for commerce, trade and logistics but also an area of outstanding natural beauty. The region is well-known for its Repovesi national park, which is one of the most popular hiking and outdoor destinations in Finland. Kymenlaakso is located on the border between the EU and Russia and the region is ideally located for traveling. The transport connections are excellent - after all Kouvola is the biggest railway junction in Finland. How about taking a night train to Lapland? You can also get on a high-speed train in Kouvola and find yourself in St. Petersburg just over two hours later. High-quality education in Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu (UAS) Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu, University of Applied Sciences (UAS) is a Finnish multidisciplinary institute of higher education that produces high-quality professional expertise in close co-operation with working life as wells as other organizations of education, training, and research. The core competences are energy engineering, logistics, international business, and health care. Double Degree programmes are based on agreements between Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences and its international partner institutions. The programmes are intended for the students of our partner institutions who wish to obtain a Double Degree. Meet students from different countries Kymenlaakson ammattikorkeakoulu receives annually about 250 foreign students, originally from about 40 countries, study at Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences annually. The exchange students can choose 30 60 ECTS from the following degree programmes: Design, International Business, International Business Management, Logistics Engineering, Business Logistics, Information Technology, Media and Social Care. Logistics Engineering 7 Intelligent Sustainable Logistics The programme offers the students a sound package of business and technology courses in Logistics Engineering. The students will gain new competences in various sectors including international marketing, operation management, supply chain management, financial accounting and human capital management. Best state-of-art ICT softwares and process methods are used in exercises. Most of the courses have synergies with R&D projects and real business cases. The cross-course theme and flavor of the programme is sustainability. Sustainability knowledge and skills are ranked high in business life today and the programme makes the best to reflect these demands. Students can choose either one semester exchange term or stay the whole year. If exchange period lasts the whole year, it s then possible to extend studies with bachelor thesis and achieve double degree. Students can also choose courses from other programmes, e.g. from Energy Technology or Information Technology. 6

The programme aims at producing the students basic know-how in operating in companies logistics processes or in logistics service companies in both local and international business environment. Energy Technology 7 Double degree programme is a part of full time degree programme in Energy Technology (energia- ja ympäristötekniikan koulutus). Studies lead to Bachelor of Engineering degree. This education gives competences in environmental friendly and economical energy production and in innovative energy technology and engineering. Modern learning methods support students communication and co-operative team-work skills as well as project-work skills. According to Finnish regulations, this education of energy engineering gives the graduates the eligibility to work as managers of power plants, and to be in charge of the safe operation of power plants after obtained applicable work experience. 10

Information Technology 7 Double degree programme is a part of full time degree programme in Information Technology. Studies lead to a Bachelor`s Degree of Engineering (BSc. Eng). This education gives competences in Data Networks Engineering. More than 50% of the whole curriculum is carried out with learning by doing -method in small groups (2-3 students/group). There are lots of laboratory works, case studies and project works with real equipment. Double Degree Programmes 12 The ICT learning environment includes several laboratories: real operator level network in production (SimuNet), Cisco Networking lab with eight pods and Cybersecurity & Datacenter lab for practicing penetration testing and running of small datacenter. International Business 7 from DD students required for International Business Programme Double Degree Programme in International Business is a part of full time degree programme, leading to Bachelor of Business Administration degree. The International Business Degree Programme aims to equip the graduates with the knowledge, skills and understanding required in challenging positions in the expanding field of International Business, specializing either in International Marketing or International Trade. It also strives to produce graduates who can work independently and communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. The studies involve a great deal of project work, team work and independent studying. International Business opens a diversified career at the top of the global business world.
