Principals Welcome Mission Statement Since 1984, Kingsway Christian College has established a reputation for providing a dynamic educational foundation for life, in addition to maintaining our commitment to a Christ-centred approach to learning. We are excited to offer a learning programme to your son or daughter that is founded on the understanding that every child has the opportunity to achieve. We encourage parents to become an integral part of our school community and so contribute to the development of your child s talents. We believe that our purpose for existing is to honour, value and support all the children in our care. We have committed to adding value to each child through the provision of programmes that are designed to support, nurture and enrich their lives. Kingsway Christian College strives to open new doors for each child by acknowledging and encouraging personal interests, talents and needs. Students who feel connected into their learning environment and who feel a sense of pride in their College develop better intellectually, attain greater social confidence and become more resilient to the normal ebbs and flows we all experience in life. Students from Kingsway Christian College are also encouraged to have a volunteering heart, to strive for social justice, and to contribute meaningfully to the wider community. At Kingsway Christian College we endeavour to offer an educational programme that is innovative, reflecting best practice and catering for a broad academic range. We seek to foster an attitude of responsible stewardship of the gifts and abilities God has bestowed upon each one in our community. We aim to empower students to exercise their talents responsibly by leading a fulfilling life and making an active contribution towards social justice and the common good. Kingsway Christian College strives to provide our students with a stimulating and safe environment in order for meaningful learning to take place. Gifts are recognised early and comprehensive systems are in place to allow students to flourish in their areas of expertise by providing a curriculum that is engaging and challenging. There are also many extra-curricular activities that your children can benefit from. Most importantly we insist on selecting and appointing quality, committed, enthusiastic and talented Christian teachers who are passionate about educating young people. We value our staff and are committed to selecting educators who will engage your child in a learning journey that is exciting, authentic and importantly, relevant to his or her own interests. I encourage you to visit our campus and meet with me. I am sure that you will appreciate the dynamic and caring culture that is so much a part of our wonderful school. Peter Burton College Principal To enable, empower and equip students for life through Christ-centred education.

Christ-Centred Education CHRIST-CENTRED EDUCATION Kingsway Christian College is a non-denominational day school catering for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. Since its commencement in 1984 Kingsway Christian College has been blessed with steady growth resulting in its current enrolment of over 1,300 students. Our goal is to provide excellence in Christ-centred education and learning in partnership with our families supported by the Christian community. Kingsway Christian College is part of a strong network of Christian Schools located throughout Australia. These schools have a national voice and unity through affiliation with a national body, Australian Association of Christian Schools (ACCS). ITS VALUE AND RELEVANCE Christian education regards all knowledge, encompassing the Arts, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, as having its origin and true meaning through its relationship with God the Creator. During students formative schooling years, Christian Education seeks to develop understanding, values and attitudes which are derived from a biblical Christian perspective. A key feature of Christian Education is that it trains developing minds to acquire habits of thinking and reasoning which involve God, leading to the establishment of lifelong Christian thought patterns. Throughout learning, your child is given the priceless opportunity of perceiving themselves, their purpose and their potential in relation to God. A Christian Education enables parents to honour God in their child s schooling, and completes the circle of care between home, church and school. It is a tremendous blessing and privilege for your child. Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older they will remain upon it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Striving for Excellence EXCELLENCE Excellence is the hallmark of the College s educational programmes. Sound and fully accredited, these programmes provide students with clear pathways into further study and employment. Kingsway graduates are found in tertiary fields such as medicine, law, engineering, social work and teaching. Their achievements in these areas include scholarships, university medals and other honours. Graduates from the College s nationally recognised Vocational Programme compete strongly for apprenticeships, TAFE courses and employment. Through careful and on-going individual assessment, the College helps each student set, strive for and achieve personal goals of excellence in all they do. The consistent sowing of excellence at Kingsway enables your child to reap the future rewards of a secure and relevant place in society. DEDICATION Dedicated, committed teachers can give students a school life characterised by achievement, enjoyment and success. Teachers at Kingsway Christian College are carefully chosen for their professional qualifications, educational experience and commitment to Christ. Kingsway s teachers view their vocation as both a ministry and a career. They have a high reputation for the sincere and demonstrable care of each of their students. Kingsway s teachers are committed to performing their duties with a Christ-like attitude and application, while being encouraged to pursue professional development through programmes specifically tailored to their area of expertise. The proven dedication of Kingsway staff is a strong foundation for your child to achieve their very best. The quality and success of education greatly depends upon the teachers who provide it. Excellence is a principle woven through the fabric of life at Kingsway Christian College.

Community Partnership PREPARATION Students are provided with a rich variety of learning experiences in which they may develop their whole person. ØAcademically ØEmotionally ØPhysically ØSocially ØSpiritually Responsiveness to God in faith and service is a goal upheld throughout each student s preparation and development. As they mature, students are encouraged to build independence, self-confidence, resourcefulness and responsibility - characteristics highly sought after in today s young adults. Through preparation, Kingsway endeavours to equip students to reach their greatest potential and opens the doors of opportunity for each child. PARTNERSHIP Partnership at Kingsway gives a lifeline of support for students, co-operation between home and College and a vibrant community spirit. Pastoral care flows naturally from Kingsway s partnership network. College Chaplains and teachers as well as older students are always available to students for prayer and personal counselling. Many and varied opportunities exist for parents to be actively involved in their child s education at Kingsway. Partnership in the College community extends beyond student s school days. Upon graduation, they are welcomed into membership of the Alumni of Old Kingsway Scholars. This Alumni is a tangible expression of the College s commitment to see its students grow to maturity in Christ and in society. Partnership is the foundation of the Kingsway Christian College community. It is the chain of strong links formed and forged between students, staff and parents. Equipping students for life in a changing and challenging world is a primary objective of Kingsway Christian College.

Diverse Opportunities STEWARDSHIP It is entrusted and accountable to provide education which identifies, nurtures and develops students talents for God s honour and glory. Students are encouraged and assisted throughout their school life to be responsible stewards of their abilities. Christian values regarding personal excellence, self discipline, perseverance and accountability are consistently taught and rewarded. At Kingsway Christian College the faithful stewardship of each of the student s abilities is our focus and joy. Kingsway s educational programmes are tailored to give a diverse range of opportunity to every student which allows for extension and academic support. DIVERSITY A comprehensive range of subjects and activities is offered to all students. A solid framework of compulsory core subjects is enhanced by a variety of electives. Music, Languages, Computing, Drama, Art and Sport are all taught by specialist teachers in Primary and all subjects in Secondary. An extra-curricular programme further develops students learning and experiences. A variety of learning models and teaching techniques are employed in Kingsway s Education programme. The diverse capabilities of students are also well accommodated through differentiated learning in Primary and streaming in the Secondary years. Kingsway s educational diversity seeks to recognise and develop a variety of student abilities and to uphold their equal value under Christ. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. (Colossians 3:23)

SPORT SPORTING PHILOSOPHY The philosophy of the Physical Education Department is one that fosters and promotes excellence in all areas. We are not elitist but like to give students every opportunity to compete and play at the best possible level. We not only focus on skill development and expertise but also on sportsmanship so our students will not only develop as players but also as great sports people. THE VALUE OF SPORT IN EDUCATION Kingsway Christian College is a school dedicated to excellence in education and training for the whole person. We encourage our students to strive to develop spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically. We believe that sport is an important part of a well balanced learning and development programme for both boys and girls. Sport promotes leadership skills and improves physical development and coordination as well as providing young people with a wide range of social skills. Positive sporting experiences can also help increase self confidence, self esteem and develop social values. We feel that it is vital that students are taught the value of appropriate competition at various levels including within the school, inter-school and even nationally. The physical education programmes that are taught at Kingsway are based on the Curriculum Framework. Kingsway Christian College is very keen that the skills we teach are not only of an excellent standard but that they are widely recognised by other similar bodies. Music THE VALUE OF MUSIC IN EDUCATION The appreciation of music and personal experience in music making are among the most universal pleasures of humankind. The making of the simplest to the most complex music can be fostered through focused tuition and committed practice. It then becomes a tool for expression and creativity, and is a vehicle for the enrichment of worship of the Creator. Music is an important part of the curriculum for all students at Kingsway Christian College, and is taught by dedicated specialist Music Teachers. The Music Department also offers many opportunities for young students to participate in specialised music training, such as instrumental tuition on strings, guitar and piano. Older students can choose from a wider range of musical disciplines such as woodwinds, brass, vocal and percussion. Kingsway provides a music tuition programme that encourages wide involvement and is committed to excellence through structured tuition, dedicated practice and parent support. At Kingsway Christian College we use the music curricula as set up by the Western Australian Department of Education so you will always know that your child is receiving training that will equip them for whatever musical path they choose in the future. PERFORMANCES Performance is important to all Kingsway musicians. They are given many superb choral and instrumental review opportunities through the Concert Band, Swing Band, Rock Bands, Jazz Ensembles, Worship Band, Instrumental Ensembles, Barbershop Chorus and Quartets, as well as solo performances. MUSIC LESSONS & TEACHERS Students can learn a broad range of instruments through Kingsway Christian College including acoustic and electric guitar, violin, piano, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, drums/percussion, and voice. In most cases, music lessons are taught on the school premises by the music tutors, during school hours. Times can be rotated, particularly for Secondary students, so the student does not always miss the same lesson. In some cases, a before or after school time may be arranged with the tutor. Most lessons are forty minutes in length, at the music teacher s discretion. Very young or very advanced students may need lessons of a different duration. All peripatetic music teachers are Christians and must pass the same screening and interview process as classroom teachers at Kingsway. For more information refer to www.kingsway.wa.edu.au or email music@kcc.wa.edu.au Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram s horn - shout for joy before the Lord, the King. Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul. Plato In-school and out-of-school recitals, Eisteddfods, Barbershop outings and concerts; competitions such as The Big Gig ; and attending concerts by the WA Symphony Orchestra and WA Academy of Performing Arts are just some of the wonderful experiences available for the music student at Kingsway Christian College. Pastoral Care DISCIPLINE Discipline at Kingsway develops efficient learning in the classroom, productive student/teacher relationships and personal excellence in students studies.
