3 Welcome We are now into the third year of our postgraduate offerings here at Emmaus. This is an exciting time for Emmaus as we continue to develop courses to further and strengthen Emmaus position as a Bible College in the Sydney region and beyond. Studying at a postgraduate level is challenging and rewarding. Our postgraduate courses are designed to enhance your current skill set and benefit your ministry at the local church or overseas. Emmaus has, for many years, offered high quality undergraduate courses, we desire to continue and to build upon our existing reputation by offering three masters degree programs; the Master of Theology, Master of Arts and the Master of Divinity. Each course is distinct in its content and appeals to different groups with different needs and outcomes. The following documentation provides information about each program. Emmaus offers postgraduate studies in online learning format as well as traditional classroom- based lectures. Course instructions, textbooks, lessons and required assignments are available for each course that uses the online system. Students even upload their completed assignments directly to the online learning program making it a secure way to submit course work. Please do not hesitate to contact me or other staff at Emmaus for further information if required. I look forward to seeing you in class in the future. Dr Leonard J Smith Principal 3

12 Modes of Learning at Emmaus Bible College Emmaus strives to meet the demands of the learner by offering a variety of modes of learning delivery. In addition to the traditional classroom based learning Emmaus continues to expand the use of technology and the Internet to reach its learners. The following is a brief summary of the modes of learner engagement: Classroom based is the traditional method of face- to- face teaching methodology, the lecturer teaches students in class. Classes are usually three hours in duration with a break. Distance Learning is where the student is self- directed in their own learning through material provided by a College. This mode has tended to be through the use of Readers and associated reading material; Emmaus does not offer this mode of Distant Learning. Alternatively, Emmaus records classes and are uploaded onto the website. Students can view the lessons at their leisure though out the week and respond to classroom- based questions with the lecturer through . Online learning is where the learner engages with the lecturer through the use of the Internet. The student needs to have access to a computer with Internet access. Online learning has two modes: Online Lessons are hosted through the Moodle platform, which is a Learning Management System. Classes are set each week with lesson content, which may include readings, power- point presentations, short video clips etc. Students at their own pace work through each lesson, and complete the required tutorials. Tutorials are a system of communication between the lecturer, the student and other students. Virtual Classroom is where the student or lecturer is external to the classroom. The subject may be taught as classroom- based with some students or all external to the classroom environment. Student log on to the College s webpage at a preset time and engage with the class in real time, students and the lecturer see and hear each other. The virtual classroom is recorded so students are able to review the class at a later point in time if required. The recordings of these classes can be used for online learning. 12
13 Fees For 2013 the fee structure is as follows Masters Degree Subjects Subjects taken for credit $ per subject Audit subjects (attendance only, includes notes) $ per subject NOTE: As the courses are religious in nature, there is no GST Are there any other costs? Other expenses for consideration are the purchase of text books, computer (if required) and stationery. The Emmaus library is an excellent resource and able to support completely all courses offered by the college, however, students should purchase a set of good basic reference books for themselves. Emmaus will also charge an annual administration fee of $30.00 per subject for the provision of ancillary services. Fee Help Fee Help is an Australian Commonwealth Government Loan Scheme that assists students who are Australian citizens to pay their tuition fees and is available to students who are studying for credit at Diploma level or above (i.e. Diploma, Bachelor or Masters level). Full details are available on the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website Fee Assistance Under certain circumstances students who are Australian citizens can apply for assistance with their fees.
