OLGA TREVISAN - CAMILLA CROSTA
INTRODUCTION TO OUR COLLABORATION: We know each other since long time, we studied at the same artistic high school and since that period we are still friend. We worked together for few years and just recently our research started to take a shape. We tried different projects and different experiences and approaches and only in this last year our purpose started to focus on public art and social practice. It s only the beginning of more wider project that hopefully soon will take a real and more concrete form. Gift plaque in situ, file.kmz, specific website thegift.olgatrevisan.com Venezia Paris Valencia Madrid The project currently performed in Venice, Paris, Valencia and Madrid is based on Essai sur le don by the sociologist Marcel Mauss and it investigates the dynamics activated with the exchange of a worthless object. Using the casualness of life itself, the intervention establishes a new social relation, maybe instantaneous, maybe enduring, through a moment of accidental pause. The encounter between people, the act of giving a personal object, makes us question what happens in the instant in which such exchange takes place. The object, seen as a receptacle of identity, is usually transferred by the giver to the receiver through measures of emotional or practical value; this convention is interrupted when the object is chosen because of its uselessness, and again, when the object is glued on the spot where the exchange has taken place. This action is based on a principle of spontaneity and immediacy, the unsolicited giving of the self to others, thus creating social relantionship. Consequently to this gesture, spatial coordinates will be calculated, and inserted into Google Earth; these traces of knowledge are contextualized in a proportionately opposed manner from their effective status of encountered object.

Self-paintings in collaboration with Marcello Milani truck imprint, greasy oil on canvas The general motivation is structured on a non-imposed approach to the aspect of creation and developing of an idea. We just suggest our lateral vision of simple ideas during the creation of our works from an initial rough impulse. Here we show some different directions in which we are developing our work. First we are presenting the truck imprinting, created by the greasy oil of the surface in the mechanism of rotation of the truck; we are interested in this serie because we had the possibility to limit our intervention to the essential energy that the work needs to be originated, looking for our unconditioned approach to an art piece. With Farfalla we started to investigate something new for us that has origin in a basic direct form and develops into a generative method. Then we choose this method to create other projects and other canvases, moving from a systematic employment of the idea as a trick; unbalancing this investigations we re trying to understand where or when our action has a partial control over the entire work redistributing our role in each work.
