It will give you an allaround ability to understand Web development as it applies to personal and professional use. Emphasis is placed on learning HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), XHTML, and the application software (Dreamweaver CS6) necessary to understand Web development principles and practices. This class will consist of discussions, Web assignments, lab projects, Internet searches, and guest speakers. You will be expected to produce a digital portfolio of all work created in the class. Successful completion of this class will allow an opportunity to take Web Design 2 and/or 3 as well as work on the school Web site. Three (3) FREE college credits are also available with a passing grade of B- or higher! Prerequisites Internet usage agreement Keyboarding ability to touch type 25wpm. Digital Portfolio 150 points every semester Your portfolio will be identified and divided into file folders within your personal P: drive. All assignments/projects/notes for the whole year will go in it. DO NOT delete or throw anything away!!! Your portfolio will be graded once at the end of each 6 week term (3 per semester). No late portfolios will be accepted for any reason. Students will be made aware of the due date at least two weeks in advance. Supplies Generally, supplies are not required for a computer technology class; however, if a student supplies printer/copier paper, dry erase (Expo) markers, Kleenex, and/or anti-bacterial sanitizer/wipes, extra credit can be earned. When you have completed this class you should: 1. feel more comfortable creating a Web site using HTML/XHTML. 2. be able to communicate with a professional in the field of Web development about their job. 3. be able to create a Web site and understand the importance of its purpose, quality and structure. 4. be able to do minor troubleshooting of code errors and correct them. 5. be familiar with a variety of Web developing application software. 6. be able to assist staff and others to create web sites that follow the correct Web development structure. 7. no longer fear HTML/XHTML or Web development, but look forward to challenges and opportunities it affords you. My purpose is to enable every student to develop his or her potential. You forfeit your chance for life at its fullest when you withhold your best effort in learning. When you give only the minimum to learning, you receive only the minimum in return even with your teacher s best efforts, in the end it is your work that determines how much and how well you learn. When you work to your full capacity, you can hope to attain the knowledge and skill that will enable you to create your future and control your destiny. Expectations Buddy System Needed by: 4 th class meeting (2nd week of class) 10 points Each student is responsible for obtaining a buddy by the second week of class. Buddy responsibilities are as follows: Someone to collect handouts if buddy is absent Study partner Reference on assignments & in-class questions *Most Important! Someone to collect corrected group assignments Take notes in class for buddy If you miss class, it is your responsibility to get your missing assignments and information from your buddy. The information is also on the class Website and on the board in class (objectives). Do not expect the teacher to follow up on missing assignments and their details. It is the responsibility of you and your buddy to do so. If you have a problem with your computer or a question about the assignment, you have permission to QUIETLY ask your buddy before asking the teacher. There is only one teacher and it will save you time (and my sanity ;) if you can get the information from another classmate instead of waiting for the teacher to get around to you. Questions in Class If you have a question in class, you must follow these Three Steps to Responsibility : Re-read the directions Check your notes Check with 3 classmates Ask Teacher You MUST sit quietly in your seat with your hand raised so the teacher can get around to assist you. It only delays the teacher more when there are two or more students asking questions at the teacher at one time. The teacher WILL NOT assist you until you are sitting at your seat quietly with your hand raised. *Goal: To be more self-reliant and respectful ;) Participation Active involvement in daily class discussions and labs about the material(s) being covered is expected. Notes Notes may be used during each test (if instructor permits). Assignments Homework assignments/projects should be submitted by the BEGINNING of the next class period. In-class assignments/projects should be submitted by the END of the class period unless additional time is given to complete. Graded assignments will be returned to you via email where you should create a folder and save them into. Late assignments will be accepted for partial credit. The maximum % you can earn from a late perfect assignment/project is as follows: After due date, but within same week =90% After due date, but within same term =70% After due date, and from previous term =50% Tests Each test can include all materials covered since the beginning of class. Notes may be used on tests (if the instructor permits). No photocopies, handouts, previous tests, textbooks, cell phones, or other student s notes may be used during a test. Submitting Assignments Most assignments will be emailed to me for grading. Please be sure to include your class, period, and name of assignment on the subject line when submitting (i.e. Web1 B7 Name of Assignment). Equipment Students should treat all classroom equipment with respect. Do not change any aspect of the computer desktop such as screen savers, wallpaper etc. AT ANY TIME! Do not write on or play with computers, furniture, mouse pads, mice, keyboards, etc.
Class Dismissal Please remain seated until the dismissal bell rings (don t stand by the door). You should not leave class until you have logged out, your chair is pushed in, and your area picked up. DO NOT store garbage of any kind anywhere in the room other than in the garbage cans. Cheating policy Whenever a student is guilty of cheating and/or plagiarism, I will collect the work of all students involved and mark a zero for the work. A letter/email will go home to the parents of all students involved. The letter must be signed by a parent and sent back to instructor. The office will also receive a copy of the letter. Repeated violations may result in removal from the class and loss of credit as per the student agenda handbook. Cheating includes: Copying work from other students Printing assignments for other students Turning in assignments that you did not personally do Turning in work from other sources as your own (plagiarism) Logging in as another student Emailing assignments/answers to other students Hall Passes If you choose to leave the room for ANY reason (other than an emergency or at another staff member s request) you MUST use the hall pass. Each student will receive six (6) hall passes per semester. Students may not be gone from class for longer than 10 minutes when using a hall pass or it will result in an unexcused absence. If students have already used their hall passes for the term, they can elect to take a tardy to leave if they choose to leave class again. Unused hall passes can be turned in at the end of the semester for 5 extra credit points each.

For habitual infractions, students will be issued night school. If a student is removed from class for discipline or attendance reasons, the student will receive a failing grade, regardless of the current grade status.
