With the password reset service, the Help Desk of FH JOANNEUM offers his users a possibility to reset an expired/forgotten password. It is furthermore possible to reactivate an account, which was locked out temporarily by mistyped password entries. Now, the users are able to reset their passwords by themselves, by answering three user defined security questions. This service is available for all users, even if they are not logged on a computer at FH JOANNEUM. Furthermore, the users are able to change once a month, if they want they only have to re-enroll. 2 Check the requirements for Password Reset Service If you want to use the self service, you need to have A valid user account, located in FHJ-domain TECHNIKUM A computer providing access to the internet A finished enrollment into the Password Reset Service How to use the Self Service Password Reset 1
3 Enroll into the Password Reset Service or set new security questions This step is necessary for those, who want to use the Password Reset Service. In this procedure, you will have to define three questions and provide an answer for them. When finished, these questions and answers will be associated to your user account and prompted, if you want to reset your password or unlock your account. 1. Open the internet address https://owa.fh-joanneum.at/ssrpm. 2. Choose your preferred language. 3. At the start page, click on Enroll into Password Reset. 4. Provide your user name and current password and click on Continue. How to use the Self Service Password Reset 2
5. Choose three questions and provide an answer for those. After that, click on Continue. Rules for secure answers! Rule 1: You can enter each answer only once! Rule 2: The answers can not be a part of the security question! Rule 3: The answers have to contain at least 3 caracters! Rule 4: The answers can contain space caracters as well. Attention! The Help Desk is not able to see your answers in the system. These answers are stored unreadable as secret values. If you forgot your security answers, go to chapter Users who forgot their security answers. 6. If you see this window, you have successfully enrolled. 4 Reset an expired or forgotten password Please follow the steps to reset an expired or forgotten password: 1. At the start page, click on Reset password. 2. Please provide the name of the user account, whose password you want to reset. Then. click on Continue. 3. Please answer the questions and provide a new password. Afterwards, click on Reset password. To find secure passwords, please see our password policy. Attention! If you mistype one or more questions, you will be blocked automatically after 3 attempts. This is a security measure, to prevent that other people are able to guess your answers after trying different entries. If you forgot your security answers, go to chapter Users who forgot their security answers. 4. If you see this window, you have successfully reset your password. 5 Unlock a temporary locked account caused by logon-failures If you have locked your account by mistyping the password five times, then you can wait 10 minutes or you can follow these steps to unlock your account immediately: At the start page, click on Unlock your account. Please provide the name of the user account you want to unlock. Then. click on Continue. 5. Please answer the questions, and after that, click on Unlock. Attention! The Help Desk is not able to see your answers in the system. These answers are stored unreadable as secret values. If you forgot your security answers, go to chapter Users who forgot their security answers. 3. If you see this window, you have successfully unlocked your account. 6 Known issues and solutions Users who forgot their security answers => Go to the FHJ Help Desk If you forgot one or more answers, you have to go personally to the Help Desk (see the Help Desk locations). The Help Desk will then reset your password and you to do the enrollment process again. Please bring an official identification or your FHJ employee card/ FHJ student card with you. => If you can not appear in person at the Help Desk (suggestion) People, who stay abroad or don t have the possibility to appear in person at the Help Desk, may use the Help Desk contact form, to request a password reset. To prevent fraud activities, we need to check personal information from you. Therefore you have to enter the following data: your FHJ IT user name a digital copy of an official identity with photo a digital copy of your FHJ employee card/ FHJ students card Attachment: FH JOANNEUM password policy Due to security reasons, all users have to change their FH password every 90 days. You can use the initial password only after the fifth password change again, because the system checks the last 5 passwords used. Moreover, the password you define, has to meet the following criteria in order to be used. Length: at least 7 characters Usage of at least 3 different character types: o Lower case letters o Capital letters o Numbers o Special characters (e.g.!, $, %, /) Your password cannot contain your First Name, your Last Name or your Username. In addition to that, please refrain from writing down your passwords. How to create a secure password Rather than trying to remember a password using various character types, you can use a passphrase. Think up a sentence and create a password using the first (or second etc.) letter from each word. Then replace some characters with similarly looking numbers or special characters (eg.
