English as a Second Language (ESL) English as a Second Language courses are offered at all levels from Literacy through Advanced, and may sometimes contain multiple levels in one forum class. The curriculum integrates the study of English language structure with selected topics in areas such as life skills, culture, and employment. Many different interactive classroom activities are used to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at all levels. ESL DISTANCE LEARNING Students study English as a Second Language at home using workbooks with DVDs. Each program has between 20-24 lessons, and the programs cover all levels from beginning through advanced. Typically students check in with the teacher every week to turn in exercises, exchange materials, and receive support on the lessons. These programs may be used alone, or to supplement in-class studies. 10 VENICE SKILLS CENTER/ LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT / DIVISION OF ADULT AND CAREER EDUCATION
