Food Safety and Sanitation Workshop - ServSafe Are you industry certified? If not this is the workshop for you. Career Technical Education is moving toward all students earning an industry recognized certification. You must earn your own certification to be able to teach and administer test for your students certification. Food Safety and Sanitation: ServSafe covers the basics of food safety and sanitation and ways to protect against food borne illness. ServSafe workshops provide the most up-to-date and relevant information and mirrors the sections of the ServSafe : Coursework (sixth edition) Textbook. The textbook is required reading prior to attending the workshop. The workshop includes six hours of instruction and review, a two hour accredited examination and one hour for lunch. Food Service and Hospitality instructors will have the opportunity to be certified and/or recertified if they have previously taken the ServSafe training. Participants who pass the exam will receive a certificate of completion that is valid for five years in California. Registration must be received by the established dates below in order to be processed and the textbook mailed to the participants. Registration received after the deadline date will not be processed. The ServSafe textbook, sixth edition, the exam sheet, refreshments on arrival and lunch are included. The textbook will be mailed to participants when registration and payment is received. Enrollment will be limited to 35 participants. Once the maximum quota is reached, a waiting list will be established. Hospitality and Tourism Success Workshop This workshop is being presented in cooperation with the Bay Region Community College's Retail, Hospitality and Tourism Initiative in partnership with Diablo Valley Community College, the California Restaurant Association and American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA). Culinary Arts Skills: Update and Renew Your Industry Skills Throughout this hands-on training Common Core standards and Performance Tasks Assessments will be utilized and highlighted. It is designed especially for Food Service and Hospitality educators to update their culinary and classroom management skills. Sessions will include classroom activities and three rotations in a professional kitchen to expose participants to the real world of professional baking and cooking. Los Angeles Trade Tech professional chef/instructors will conduct sessions designed to increase the skills of the novice as well as the experienced teacher. Note: Materials and activities will not be repeated from past workshops. Common Core and HECT: Your Window of Opportunity Workshop The Common Core State Standards (frequently known as just Common Core) are a set of K-12 educational standards in math and language arts. 45 states have adopted Common Core, including California. This is where HECT teachers come in. It isn t enough to know what the standards are. We need to know how they are already integrated into our courses and how to improve on our Best Practices. By utilizing Dagget s 4 Quadrants of Beyond Knowledge Construct we will take key assignments from the A to D Quadrant. You will learn ways to implement the Common Core into course objectives, course outlines, daily lesson plans, and develop assessment strategies reflecting the new standards. This is a hands-on opportunity not to be missed. Opportunities are Knocking in Fashion and Interior Design Open your Window of Opportunity at this workshop to the new Career Technical Education and Common Core standards in the Fashion and Interior Design Career Pathways. The two-day workshop will feature presentations by professionals from the industries, new technology and media and their impact on what and how we re teaching, necessary skills and knowledge for entry level positions and much more. Learn how to establish and manage a career pathway in two of the largest industries in California. Utilize the Performance Tasks Assessments by using the new HECT Competency Profiles. Learn about the current industry needs and job market outlook in California s Fashion and Interior Design industries. Each participant will share a key assignment that addresses the new CTE standards. Participate will have the opportunity to network with business and industry representatives and colleagues during this action packed workshop. FHA-HERO New Advisor Workshop and Internship This workshop is designed for HECT teachers not active with FHA-HERO and preservice students who are future HECT teachers and FHA-HERO chapter advisors. It will provide you with an understanding of the purpose of FHA-HERO and its role in providing students with leadership, citizenship and career development experiences as an integral part of the Home Economics Careers and Technology curriculum. Workshop highlights include: instructional strategies for integrating FHA-HERO into the classroom, as well as for organizing and managing an FHA-HERO chapter. FHA-HERO State Meeting Internship: This internship is designed as a powerful leadership development experience in which each participant is paired with an exemplary FHA-HERO advisor for State Meeting activities. In addition, participants will assist FHA-HERO advisors and staff with the management of the FHA-HERO State Leadership Meeting Conference and Competitive Recognition Events (CREs) and learn how these activities are dynamic ways to extend classroom learning and give students recognition.
