MESSAGE FROM THE TEACHER IN-CHARGE It fills me with pride to see the Department of Management Studies at Keshav Mahavidyalaya rolling out another volume of its annual newsletter, Perspective. In its journey of 9 years so far, the Department has strived to provide quality management education to the students and has taken utmost care to ensure students holistic development that not only makes them lead a satisfied life butalso fulfils the expectations of the industry. Perspective is a testimony to all such initiatives undertaken by the department to organize events and activities that aim to create and promote intellectual, technological, social and interpersonal skills among the students. It showcases the achievements of both faculty and students in academic and extracurricular arenas. This newsletter will take you through the activities organized by the department during 2015-16 and I am sure you will be pleased to read about the phenomenal growth that the department has made in its commitment to develop responsible citizens with the zeal to make a difference to the society. Wishing you all a very happy reading! Ms. Sonu Mehta Teacher In-Charge Department of Management Studies

MESSAGE FROM THE EDITORIAL TEAM Heartfelt Greetings! Welcome to the 7 th Management Studies, Keshav Mahavidyalaya. volume of Perspective, the annual newsletter of the Department of Perspective cannot be called just an annual publication; it is so much more. From familiarising the reader with the department, to showcasing the achievements of students and faculty, to tracing the events trajectory of the year gone by, our humble Perspective does it all. It would be greatly unfair to not mention that this newsletter is an integral part of the tradition of the Department of Management Studies. Every year, Perspective gives us a platform and a reason to work and interact with new people. It teaches us the value of very limited time, the importance of eloquence and brevity, and, most importantly, it makes obvious the absolute necessity of teamwork, cooperation, and unity. The team can be seen working enthusiastically on developing content, procuring photographs, making designs after designs, and compiling the final product, with every other thought out of the window! We have not forgotten to extend our gracious gratitude to everyone who has helped deliver this newsletter to your hands. We end our charade by thanking our teachers for considering us worthy of being in the Editorial Team, and our fellow students for tolerating our constant reminders and barraging for the necessary information. This would not have been possible without all your support. We hope you enjoy our efforts! The Editorial Team

THE BMS EDGE Bachelor of Management Studies (B.M.S.) has built its reputation on the basis of its practical approach to teaching theory grounded in real-world application. It is the only course which still has an entrance exam. The professional placements of BMS graduates and interns rank among the best in India. Owing to its professional and specialized learning, the course has become a brand in itself and is the pride of the University of Delhi. Students pursuing the course have to often think and work outside the world of books. Keshav Mahavidyalaya has been offering this prestigious course since 2007. KMV, with its highly able pedagogy, has been one of the best choices for BMS/BBS aspirants, especially for those who want more than just theoretical knowledge. In 2013, the University of Delhi set forth a proposal to merge Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelor of Finance and Investment Analysis, and Bachelor of Business Economics and came up with an all-inclusive 4-year long umbrella course named Bachelor of Management Studies under the aegis of Faculty of Management Studies. However, in the next turn of events, the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) was rolled back and as a result, the erstwhile BMS programme was reversed to a 3 year programme. Even the nomenclature and common programme structure were reversed to the previous names, BBE, BBS and BFIA in 2014. In 2015, the structure of the course underwent another change to become B.M.S., Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The CBCS provides an opportunity for the students to choose subjects from the prescribed courses comprising core, elective/minor or skill based papers. Pursuing BMS at KMV is a dream for students who want to excel as managers and leaders in life. It has helped the students grow professionally and academically.

COGNIZANCE 2015 The Department organized the sixth edition of its annual corporate event, Cognizance 2015 on February 12-13, 2015. The event included a day-long seminar held on February 12 on the theme, Game Changers: Ideas, Innovations and Breakthroughs that Change the World. The Inaugural Session was presided over by Prof. R. P. Tandon, Chairman, Governing Body. The department was honoured to have Prof. Suresh Aggarwal, Dean, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Delhi and Prof. M. L. Singla, Dean Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi, as Guests of Honour. The Chief Guest, Dr. Pawan Bakhshi, Associate Director, Microsave, and the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Anurag Walia, V. P. Tata Communications Ltd. shared their thoughts on the theme. The speakers for first technical session were Mr. Raghav Saraswat from Vatavaran (Non-Profit Organization), Mr. Vinod K. The seminar was a huge success and saw a footfall of over 400 students from various colleges of University of Delhi. A number of exciting and innovative management events on corporate themes were organized on February 13. Associating a professional quiz master, Mr. Aditya, helped in providing a unique strength to the Quiz event. Expert judges, Ms. Raisa Gupta and Mr. Anil Grover for the event Board Room Battle (Case Study competition) gave immense credibility to the event. Dream Team was applauded for its unique idea. All other events namely, Trade X, Brand Tambola, Artemis, Virtuoso, Mock IMF, and Excalibur were very successfully organized and provided a fun learning experience to both participants and organizers.

CHALLENGE ENRICH OUTPERFORM 15 C.E.O (Challenge Enrich Outperform) seeks to provide a platform to school students to showcase their analytical, logical and creative abilities, thus, exploring new zeniths and discovering their talents. It provides a platform for students to undertake new challenges and outperform others, while creating awareness about the stellar course, namely BMS offered bythe University of Delhi. This year, the flagship event was bigger and better than those organized during the previous years as a very high footfall of school students from across Delhi was witnessed. The list of events included HallaBol- The Street Play Competition, Marketing Mavericks the Ad- Mad Competition, Note It, Howzzat, Enigma the Quiz competition, Boardroom Battle- The Case Study competition, Fintoon- Financial Cartoon Making, Artemis- The Corporate Treasure Hunt, Game of Thrones- The Electoral Debate, and Capture Mania- Online Photography Event. A guest lecture by renowned career counsellor Dr. Sanjib Kumar Acharya was the focal point of the event wherein he guided the students about the future prospects of higher education and guided them about selection of a career path wisely. Overall, the event was a great success, filled with fun and frolic, and educative as well. The overall rolling trophy was bagged by D.A.V Pushpanjali, which won the maximum number of events.

REMINISCENCE - ALUMNI MEET 15 The BMS department invited its alumni back to college for Reminiscence, the annual alumni meet, to take a walk down the corridors of nostalgia. The occasion was graced by more than 45 alumni. The first edition of the alumni magazine was launched. Dr. Madhu Pruthi, Principal, Keshav Mahavidyalaya, shared her words of wisdom and praised the achievements of our alumni. The event witnessed various activities performed by the students, from a play depicting the happy moments of college life, to a special video. Every alumnus was provided with an opportunity to share his/her experiences with the audience. Many of the current students interacted with their seniors to learn from their experiences. The alumni also interacted with their teachers. In all, the ambience was positive and enthusiastic. Taking admission in BBS@KMV for me was like joining a successful start-up, which provided immense opportunities to shape my career and achieve my goals. Being a part of the second batch of BBS, I had the fear of venturing into the unknown. But this fear soon vanished owing to the immense support provided by our seniors and faculty members. During the three years, I not only gained knowledge of the business world but also learnt to work in diverse teams. KMV made me realize that good education is the base and ambition is the springboard that powers the leap towards excellence. Tripesh Sakhuja, Batch 2008-11 Post BBS@KMV, I worked with a few ad agencies and a brief stint with my own start up in activations. During this time, I also attended a short term certificates program in advanced marketing and entrepreneurship from The London School of Economics. For the past two y4ears, I have been wo5rking for Airads Limited, an ad agency in Delhi serving blue chip companies like NTPC, GAIL India, CSIR India, MoPNG, etc. as an Account Di9rector. Rahul Gupta, Batch 2007-10

The young generation of stock traders was also counselled by industrial experts. The visit was indeed a fascinating learning experience for the students. Students were amazed to see the kind of precautions that the industry takes to maintain hygiene and the manual efficiency in the production and packing processes. Students and faculty were also given freshly baked biscuits.

ACTIVITIES ROUND THE YEAR An orientation program was held for the new BMS batch on July 24, 2015. The program was conducted with the objective of making new students aware of the department and college. It was organised by the second and third year students in the presence of the department faculty. First of all, the new batch was greeted with a warm and hearty welcome. It was followed by a presentation and a video in which the senior students introduced the course, faculty, past events, functioning of the department, Metamorphosis- the BMS society, and the handson learning approach followed by the department. The teachers also oriented the students and enlightened them about the importance of practical application of theoretical knowledge. The freshers were very enthusiastic and willing to learn as much as possible. Teacher's Day was celebrated on September 3, 2015 by the department as a tribute to the valuable contribution of teachers for taking BMS@KMV to such great heights. The day began with tokens of gratitude where the students gifted framed group photographs to all the staff members. This gratuitous moment was followed by a melodious performance by the students. Students also presented and reiterated the pivotal role that teachers play in moulding our lives. To sum up, the much awaited words from our very own teachers managed to string up all performances and the audience into one whole family.

On Friday, August 7, 2015, a workshop on "Increasing Productivity by Implementing the Intricacies of Stock Markets in Personal Lives" was organised for the students. The speaker for the session was Mr. Siddhant Goyal, Founder, Finlife. The workshop was followed by a mock stock event. A Mock Stock is a game modelled on stock exchanges which encapsulates the excitement and thrill of making money in the stock market in real time trading. The motive of the game is simple- to build maximum wealth by investing in different stocks on the basis of news and rumours. The interactive event aimed at educating the freshers about different financial terms and jargons in an interesting manner. A profile building session was conducted on August 14, 2015 as a Friday activity by Mansi Girhotra and Harman Arora. Keeping in mind the importance of profile building, the organizers kept their noses to the grindstones and successfully organized it. During the session, an effective power point presentation was also showcased. A lot was discussed about start-ups and the start-up culture was termed as an upcoming trend. Marketing, finance, and human resource internships were discussed in detail. Many valuable points about profile building and its importance in the corporate world were discussed. It concluded with a successful interactive session. From the spectrum of courses and colleges available, choosing BMS@KMV helped me discover my potential, and I m sure it will aid me in attaining my desired goals. Out of the several positive things, best is the faculty, which aims at the holistic development of students by helping them exploit a plethora of opportunities. Sheetij Aggarwal, Batch 2015-18 KMV gave me an opportunity to get into SHADES which is one of the best decisions I took in college. I not only grew as an actor but it also led to a major development in my communication skills which complemented my management skills. Keshav Nanda, Batch 2014-17

On August 21, 2015, a quiz competition was organised for all BMS students. The general quiz consisted of 4 rounds: Preliminary, Bounce and Pounce, Rapid Fire, and Category Round, covering areas such as history, business, science and technology, movies, politics, sports, etc. After the preliminary round, 5 teams were selected for the next 3 rounds. The enthusiasm of the teams in the Rapid Fire Round was extraordinary with everyone trying to get the maximum points. In the Category Round, each team was allowed to pick 1 topic and answer 5 questions. The quiz tested the general knowledge of the students and was very informative. A workshop was organised for the students on 'Capitalline Software' on September 2, 2015. The resource person was Mr. Subhash from Capitaline.com. The workshop was very informative for students as they gained practical knowledge about the software, which is very useful in research projects. Capitaline is a value-added electronic news archive service, covering India's leading business and general publications, updated on a daily basis according to the day's news. Students were told about different queries that can be run on the software, which can be used to extract valuable information about different companies. Investors, brokers, managers and many more professionals across industries use this information to make management decisions. The students understood the working of the software and were explained the analysis of the information that is derived from it. BMS@KMV- 36 months of sheer happiness, joy and flawless memories. I got more than I had hoped for. This journey from taking entrance exam to accepting the offer letter from one of the finest companies was breathtakingly beautiful. It gave me experience, stories and some cool chums. I owe a great deal of that to the faculty, placement cell and friends at KMV and look forward to what the rest of my time here holds. Shivani Gupta, Batch 2013-16

On September 11, 2015, Metamorphosis The student body of The Department of Management Studies along with Bizworld, The student body of The Department of Commerce, organized a case study workshop for students. The workshop was conducted by a resource team of professionals including Anand Venkatesan, Abhishek Choudhary, and Abhishek Anand from Eptitude working in the employability space primarily for undergraduate students. The workshop provided exposure to students in solving business cases and cracking case interviews. The Finance Cell of The Department of Management Studies organized a guest lecture on "Technical Analysis" on October 1, 2015. The speaker for the day was Mr. AIok Sharma. Mr. Sharma is a core team member of National Finance Olympiad Association and has an unmatched and a rich experience of 9 years in Financial Systems and has worked for and consulted many companies on DCF Valuations, Corporate Finance and Investment Banking. Despite all the seemingly complicated tools technical analysis seems to employ, students understood that it is just supply and demand in a market that determines which trend will continue in the future. The students were told about the relevance of charts and various chart patterns like Head and Shoulders, Cup and Handle, Morning and Evening Star and many more through live charts and tools so as to make them understand the psychology of the investor. The lecture was not limited to Technical Analysis. Various questions were put up by the audience during the Q&A session towards the end. BMS from KMV has been a support system to nurture my existing competencies and has offered me a plethora of opportunities, placement being one of them. Kshitiz Gupta, Batch 2013-16

A workshop by ProWisdom Growth was organised on January 29, 2016. The resource person, Ms. Geetanjali briefed the students about the various dimensions involved in Image Management and Personality Development in the corporate world. She familiarized the young minds with several primary gestures that are associated with the first impressions, such as, handshakes, involuntary actions, and factors that influence the interviewer. This interactive session was followed by valuable inputs and a discussion on organizational values that a person must inculcate in order to succeed not only at work, but at every sphere in life. The students were provided with a certificate for attending the workshop. They were motivatied to constantly work towards the betterment of their personal self and presentation. A workshop on Guesstimates was organised on January 8, 2016 for the students in the seminar hall. Mr. Tripesh Sakhuja, an alumnus of the batch of 2008-11 delivered the lecture. He is presently a manager at American Express and has been selected for PGP at ISB Mohali. During the lecture, he discussed many valuable points on guesstimates and explained its importance in various interviews. He explained his points through a presentation. The ambience was full of knowledge as most students were unaware of these facts. The lecture concluded with an interactive question and answer session which left the students satisfied. A restless time Three restless years A few smiles A lot of tears But I don't regret a day Because in the end BMS@KMV gave me ATK. Daksh Bhardwaj, Batch 2013-16

A workshop on Interview Preparation was conducted on Friday, February 5, 2016 by Mr. Vishesh Jain, an alumnus of the batch of 2008-11. He currently works as the Vice President, Marketing, IndiaLends. During the lecture, he discussed valuable points on CV building and shared tips on how to crack interviews. He explained all the effective points through a power point presentation. He also gave some insights to the recruitment process and on what recruiters look for in candidates during placements. He taught them about CV building and cover letter structuring and designing. He spoke about group discussion preparation and explained how to build effective communication skills. It is often said, If you love what you do, you don t work for a day! I have served my department first as a Junior Executive, then as the General Secretary and now as the Director and it has never been tiring! The department prides on its innovative and hands-on learning methodology and works together to strengthen management foundations in its students. After studying in the department for three years, I trust that I have gained enough experiences to gear up and be ready to excel in life. Dilnaman Singh Sachdeva, Batch 2013-16 The difference between a drawing book and a coloring book is that the latter has the difficult part already sorted, which is why the development centric learning is limited. This analogy is directly in line with my college experience. KMV, an infant among giants, helped me learn that it s our slate and it s us who need to draw whatever we wish to. All the vacations had to be about internships that allowed me to experience what the corporate world is all about. Tushar Jain, Batch 2011-14 These two years in KMV have been all about filling the niches with the most productive activities, internships being a major part of it. It was not only about working at a company but rather about being with one. I also realized what I would actually like to work on. I believe that was the key take-away. The options are so many but the time so less. Nothing would have been possible without the efforts that BBS@KMV has pushed me with. Divita Ahuja, Batch 2014-17

Starting Metamorphosis in college to fill a gap was my first taste of entrepreneurship. It has been, ever since, a great ride. That experience taught me that you have to put yourself out, take risks, bring in social skills, face rejection and come out swinging whenever you're pinned to a corner. I worked a safe job to get hard skills but have ever since worked for a politician, quit a consulting company for a start up, seen that start up fold because of lack of funding just to join another. I believe college taught me to have a big heart and always be humble to keep learning. So, if I could have any piece of advice I would say - work hard, be kind and great things will happen. Vishesh Jhol, Batch 2007-10
